“By Far His Best”

Though 11 games, the stats on manbeast defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh don’t resemble what NFL fans have come to expect from him, except for Suh answering the bell for every game and scoring two touchdowns.
Stats can be deceiving and they are a lot of fun. Every coach and general manager Joe has encountered points to stats for defensive line, and then Joe finds the same guys typically are quick to discount stats when it’s noted that said player isn’t racking up numbers like he used to.
Suh hasn’t batted down a pass or forced a fumble this season, and he’s got just 1 1/2 sacks, four tackles for loss and his tackling totals are significantly down from his previous seasons. But Bucs officials are seeing a high-performing football player.
Bucco Bruce Arians was asked today if yesterday was Suh’s best game of the year. The head coach did not hesitate.
“By far, yeah,” Arians said. “He was all over the place, run and pass. Yeah, that was by far his best and he’s been really good all year.”
Joe is not throwing darts at Suh, just looking at Suh through a different lens than a lot of people.
Suh has been solid, and it seems like he’s been a great influence on those around him. He’s also turns 33 in January and will want another hefty contract for next season, if not a multi-year deal.
He’ll be part of a long list of pending free agents on a football team that will be in need of upgrades and bold decisions if it wants to be a contender.
Joe is very curious to see how Suh plays over the next five games and how the Bucs approach the defensive line as a whole, where Shaq Barrett, Jason Pierre-Paul and Carl Nassib also are poised to hit the market.

I’m a little disappointed with his stats this year, but still think he’s been upgrade over old93. You can’t teach attitude. When you’re dancing on the side line after getting a stop, when down 3 td’s, you don’t have the right attitude. McCoy was talented but a loser that was ok with losing as long as he was having fun. Good riddance. I’m just sorry the bucs didn’t get Suh 3-4 years earlier

Yes his stats are down but I’d say going into this season I didn’t expect big numbers from him. I wanted his influence and tenacity to be shown to the younger guys and I think that’s been a huge deal.

What he did in his prime would be hard to replace. The simple fact is he’s not in his prime anymore. We have to look for cheaper options who are younger.

We dont have a large cap next year due to us having a bunch of prove it deals this year that pushed the cap up. We got alot of holes and options coming up on the roster this off season. Hopefully we can keep much of the good, and take out some of the trash.

just look at VV…..
no way he would be the monster he is today along side GMC…..
SUH plays discipline and maintains gap integrity…
GMC shots the gap, gets false start penalties and gets out of position too often….

That being said, peace out to Mr. Suh next year. Time to actually draft some youth on the interior of the line, if not promote Nunez-Roches to being a full time starter. Too many prorities to worry about (Nassib, Barrett, JPP) elsewhere on the line, as Joe mentioned
Btw I can’t remember the last time we had this fantastic problem of which players we should be resigning on the D line. Kudos to the decision-makers there.

OCs still think McIceCream is in the middle of this defense but instead they’re getting Suh! Huge huge difference!

I’d keep Shaq for sure if I could only keep one, but I like all the others (JPP is from another planet dude) as well and I’d resign them if it didn’t break the bank.

So it’s ok to pay vet backup QBs a lot of money to help tutor a young QB but it’s wasteful to spend it on a mentor for a 1st round DT?
I don’t think so.

Over and over again I have to tell people on this board the Bucs are not anywhere close to being in salary cap hell.
The Bucs have the least amount of dead money in the NFL: $88,238
and
the Bucs have the 3rd most cap space in the NFL(Dolphins & Colts are 1 and 2)
at: $93,322,985

I have no problem with Suh. I think he’s been a welcome addition and brought stability and the right attitude to a unit that need exactly that. I don’t think they’ll be willing to pay him anywhere close to what he’s getting this year for a new contract next year. I think he’s probably worth about a 2 year, $10-$11.5 million contract.

Ndamukong Suh has been worth every penny we paid him this year. For the DLine to go from #24 against the run last year (and giving up 19 rushing TDs) to #2 this year (and only giving up 7 TDs thus far) is a HUGE improvement. Since Vea, Allen, Gholston & JPP were all here last year, perhaps by default the addition of Suh & Barrett were THE major additions leading to that improvement?
The DLine is now starting to get its’ pass rush going. The LBs are playing at a high level, and the Secondary has recently shown marked improvement. IF all that continues and the Bucs’ defense ends the year strong, why mess with success? Re-sign Suh, JPP & Barrett (assuming they’re asking reasonable $$$) as well as Nassib if he finishes strong & Minter (reliable backup). Grab a veteran CB & veteran Safety to add competition & depth in our Secondary, and spend one of our Top-3 draft picks on a DLineman.

Suh has been solid but between him, Barrett and Nasib, you have to keep Shaq.
Likewise setting up the future, you cannot tie yourself to Winston for a huge contract, he hasn’t shown enough consistancy to put your money into.
Then there is the Mike Evans issue, he’s still great and in his prime but Godwin right now is a better football player. He plays harder than Evans and is more of a fighter. You can address other needs with Evans’ money and the passing game will still be good. Yesterday Mike Evans did not make much of an impact in the game, his focus is off and his expressions were like he wasn’t into the game. Not sure whats going on with him.

Underrated in my opinion. Both Suh and JPP can play all game long with less rest than others. Nobody is running against us. We have allowed 3.5 yards per rush this year compared to 4.7 last year. No defensive tackle has played nearly as many snaps as Suh. Vea has 80 less snaps this season.

When the legendary Reggie White was Suh’s age he was entering his third year with Green Bay. He went on to play five more years with four of them at a high level.
If Suh wants to be here, we should resign him. If we play many more games like yesterday Suh WILL want to be here. You could see the joy in those guy’s eyes yesterday. Our D was not just dominant they were having a great time doing it.
By all means bring Suh back.

Suh is a team player, GMC was not. Suh is very intelligent, GMC is not. Suh makes players around him better, GMC makes them worse.

I thought it was Suhs best game also. Wasn’t really looking for him but he popped off the screen a few times.
On one play he cracked Matt Ryan. Cracked him real good right after a pass. Hits like that change games. Another play I saw him hustled down the far sideline to bring down the ball carrier. Another I saw him rip down the line to rally to the ball carrier for no gain.
Very special plays that only good players make. None of em pop out on the statsheet either.
The biggest stat that for Suh is the impact he made on the team and that we boast the #1 rush defense in football. If he’s not here we are not #1 against the run.

Suh does not get pushed around like McCoy. He maintains Gap control and along with VV is the reason why the Bucs are good against the run this year. Hope we can get one more year out of him.

Another one year rental from Licht with no results other than salary cap issues. Licht has shown he has no clue on developing Dline or Oline players through the draft yet we instill him with the roster.
