“Unknown” Godwin?
November 26th, 2019Is Chris Godwin an “unknown” in the NFL?
One big name thinks so and Joe finds that to be archaic thinking.
The whole concept of an “unknown” receiver makes Joe laugh and do a head-shake.
Let’s see, an estimated 60 million people play daily and/or season-long fantasy football, and Joe is very confident those folks know all about Godwin. He was a productive, never-miss-a-game force last season, and he’s totally blown up in the NFL since early September.
But Peter King still thinks Godwin is an “unknown.”
Yesterday, the hot-dog-eating-contest-protesting, mock draft-scowling, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionist, Mike Florio-arguing, parrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancing, anti-football proliferation, outhouse-admiring, airline-napping, steerage-flying, Yogi Berra-worshiping, urinal picture-taking, video game-playing, Taylor Swift-listening, pickpocket-thwarting, Bucs-uniform-frowning, Allie-LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hating, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball-box-score-reading, NPR-honk, filthy-hotel-staying, fight-instigating, barista-training, Budweiser-tolerant, baseball scorecard-keeping social activist NFL insider of NBC Sports wrote about how Godwin is a true superstar people don’t know about.
Chris Godwin, wide receiver, Tampa Bay. There’s no way Godwin can stay unknown much longer. Can he? After catching seven balls for 184 yards and two more touchdowns in the beatdown of Atlanta, Godwin, the third-year former third-rounder from Penn State, stands second in the NFL with 1,071 receiving yards, fourth with 70 catches and first with nine receiving touchdowns. What’s made Godwin such a threat for Tampa Bay is his ability to be both a deep and intermediate threat. His 15.3-yard average is better than both Michael Thomas and Julio Jones.
Joe’s glad to see Godwin get the love.
As Joe has written multiple times, the Bucs should be planning to lock down Godwin to a new contract after this season, rather than waiting until after 2020, Godwin’s fourth and final season of his rookie contract.
That’s probably the Bucs’ only chance to get him at a discount.
Wave the guaranteed money in front of Godwin and let him decide whether he prefers a lifetime of financial security or to roll the injury dice and earn the $750,000 due him in 2020.

Are you kidding me??? this guy can play! His only problem is that he is on a bad team. He has never had a bad game. If the Bucs had 53 guys just like him they would be looking at the playoffs right now. If you could draw a picture of “do your job” that would be Godwin. He is a Patriots kind of player. As bad as the Bucs have been, they do have a few good/great players to build around. GThey will had a lot of to spend this off season. Hope they can get a stud corner, stud safety, stud pass rusher and right tackle AND a decet QB. Look what the Ravens have done this year with their QB. He has made every one on that team better. They know he won’t do anything stupid, on or off the field!!

Biggest need is Right Tackle. I wouldn’t mind an upgrade at Left Tackle either, just to get cheaper.
of course, Defensive Line is a big issue as well.

Secondary is improving with development.

As much as people like to hate on Jason Licht’s drafting…
Chris Godwin was a LATE 3RD rounder… 10-12 picks from being a 4TH rounder.
Hats off to Licht on drafting this special WR.
The way he is already playing at such a young age he could develop into a Hall Of Famer if he stays healthy and continues to improve & produce.

I dont listen to what any media out of Tampa area has to say about the Bucs. The Bucs are the black hole of the NFL and no one follows them except local boys who are lifers dreaming of Allstot up the gut and the dagger is in.

He is doing all this with an average qb too

Godwin’s anonymity is the second coming of Lavonte David. It shows how truly inconsequential and forgettable the Bucs are on a national stage. And it’s sad.

Godwin is also overshadowed by Mike Evans….
I agree that Licht hit the jackpot with this pick…..needs some credit for it….still lacking with many other picks though.
We need to draft a RT & DE/DT in rounds 1 & 2…..

By the time his contract is up the salary cap may have gone up 40 million a year. Let’s stop acting like we have to trade and move players. We are far from that time. Plus we will have 92 million free for next year and I would not pay JW more than 15 million with his inconsistency AGAIN this season

Licht need to be done with O.J. Howard. He’s a real bust from 2017 draft. Based on performance, Godwin plays like a 2017 1st rounder n Howard plays like 7th rounder. He is soft n passive. He appears as if he’s afraid of contact n seems to go down on first contact. I still can’t get over the fact that earlier in the season against the Panthers when he went our abounds to avoid being tackled by a 190 lbs cb with several yards away from the end zone. He miss passes, he fumbled, n he’s an awful blocker. He’s a product of an Alabama team full of talent in a system that made him look like an all star with several long runs. Any open comments about this guy?

Chris Godwin — best football player on the team, period!

We are fortunate to have 2 superstars for receiver, Godwin and Evans!
I agree about OJ Howard, who sure is looking like a bust.
I said Oh No, when we drafted him.
We had other needs, and a good tight end already in Brate.

Defence HAS TO COMMUNICATE with each other.
Leave to corners and safties alone, don’t coach and let them fly where the ball is.
Let Winston move around. Don’t tie him in the pocket cause there is NO FRIGGING POCKET.

Ungodly isn’t going anywhere. He and ME13 have enormous respect for each other. Peter King is a yahoo who has never cared for Tampa Bay. I also think JPP is ready to retire. He’s done it all, got plenty of coin, and his accident/resulting neck injury scared the P— out of him.
