Elite At Yardage, TD Throws, Deep Balls & Inconsistency
November 25th, 2019Polarizing, maddening, thrilling, exhausting, tantalizing, there are all kinds of adjectives to describe the Jameis Winston experience.
Jameis a roller coaster. Joe might have start calling him Sheikra.
As fans enjoy a Victory Monday, Jameis sits as the quarterback with the second-most passing yards in the NFL this season (3,391) and the second-most touchdowns thrown (22). He also ranks second in completions of 40 yards or more (11), tied with Patrick Mahomes.
And in case you’re wondering, Jameis ranks eighth among QBs in rushing yards this season with 200.
Of course, Jameis has complemented all that brilliance with 20 interceptions. Wipe out six of them and he’d still be tied for the NFL lead.
The off-target jump pass to Dare Ogunbowale intercepted yesterday defined the phrase “dumb pass.”
Jameis is the one of the most wildly inconsistent quarterbacks in NFL history.
Yes, winning matters. If it didn’t, well, then football wouldn’t be the great sports that it is.
Jameis has not proven to be a winner. But Joe is encouraged that Jameis now has three road victories this season after entering the year on a 12-game road losing streak in games he started. That’s at least one hurdle it appears he’s overcome.
But his biggest hurdle lies ahead: consistency.
Three of the final five Bucs games are against teams with losing records. The other two are at home. Injuries? Joe doesn’t see any of the Bucs offense.
Now is the time for Jameis to find a level of consistency that has avoided him throughout his career.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:06 am
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh………………
How did we know this was coming after a Jameis win from Joe??? VOMIT!!!!^^^^
November 25th, 2019 at 11:06 am
will never happen, soils his shorts when it matters…It should be a no brainer to rid this team of a main problem – the QB! Money goes to the rest of the holes on this team. ANY QB can do what he does… IT’S OVER!!!
November 25th, 2019 at 11:06 am
Pay him 100 million. It’s just $ and not mine!
25-40
100 turnovers
November 25th, 2019 at 11:08 am
Keep winning games and expect Jameis back for next year, maybe more.
Get back to losing games, regain draft position to go after a top QB.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:11 am
I am now kinda hoping the Glazers sign this turd to a $100M guaranteed contract for multiple years. Because it’s all but guaranteed Jameis isn’t going to get any better… after 5 years he has hit his ceiling and is who he is… Jay Cutler 2.0.
I hope the Glazers give him that $100M+ guaranteed deal because it will be hilarious watching them lose all that money. Who knows, maybe it will lead to them selling the team to someone that knows what they’re doing. We can only hope.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:12 am
I hope Jameis breaks the number of INTs thrown in a year
then…
and only then….
will he achieve true Greatness 🙂
November 25th, 2019 at 11:12 am
Winston continues to improve. He’s a blue chipper
November 25th, 2019 at 11:13 am
@ BucsBandit
Sooooooo…..he gets 100 million for being a turd????
November 25th, 2019 at 11:14 am
As a coach, you’d much rather reign a guy in than try to breathe life into him.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:14 am
America’s Quarterback the Bays true savior is 25 and the only hope this franchise has… haters better get accept or up thier meds…. 3rd most talented buc in history behind selmon and sapp
November 25th, 2019 at 11:15 am
Interesting to see Jameis part of a complete team win.
This game is great evidence that Jameis doesn’t play defense.

Matt Ryan was giving balls away yesterday, nearly a turnover machine if our guys could catch.
Crazy, a historically above average qb getting hit around throwing risky passes. It’s almost like pressure causes bad play…
November 25th, 2019 at 11:22 am
Only a 1 year deal and sign a free agent and draft another qb.
If Jameis doesn’t like it, too bad.
Agree with the draft trenches posters.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:25 am
Here I sit thinking I was a bigger fan of Jameis than Ndog. That’s a fact.
I said on here 2 years ago….
When 87 gives up on Jameis then we have a problem with Jameis.
I’ve given up on Jameis. It’s time to find a new QB.
The turnovers have driven me crazy….especially the fumbles.
I won’t be sad if they let Winston walk.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:27 am
Elite at deep balls? Hmmm. see wide open Perrimann should have been an easy 6, almost threw him out of bounds but at least he made a nice catch. Two great catches by Godwin too. Everything in #3’s game swings between Bad and good.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:28 am
Yeah some stats of his do seem impressive. Obviously some of I comes along with throwing caution to the wind and being a gunslinger. I’d rather he had lower numbers woth less turnovers. . How much lower? Tough to say. You also have to wonder woth having not just 1 but 2 of the better receivers in the league if it would be all that difficult for many other qbs to out uo similar numbers with maybe less turnovers
November 25th, 2019 at 11:28 am
And.
If Jameis is setting Buc records…I expect the next QB to break them.
Go Bucs!!!
November 25th, 2019 at 11:29 am
2nd in the league in Td’s and Passing yards. Let that sink in haters. How many seasons has Drew Brees thrown more than 15 INTS? The answer is 9 $&@%ing times. I’ve heard enough from these ignorant fans, you are all just racist I swear. Going by all the dumb haters logic, the Bucs should have been blown out this game because Jameis threw 2 picks. Its amazing that the team wins when they PLAY A COMPLETE GAME DEFENSE OFFENSE AND SPECIAL TEAMS.. even though the special teams were off this week..
November 25th, 2019 at 11:29 am
Jameis appeared to me to be stepping into his throws better yesterday. Probably because he had a nice clean pocket to throw out of.
We have a very good offense that scores a lot of points, don’t believe changing quarterbacks would be wise.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:34 am
Hey look at the bright side Jameis still needs 15 more ints to catch Vinnys team record of 35. Go Jay miss.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:35 am
The defense finally showed up and we won easily even with 2 early turnovers
. We’d have 3 more wins if they didn’t give up late leads
November 25th, 2019 at 11:39 am
Forgetting the INT’s for a second..
Look at the completed balls that were bad, stupid and dangerous.
First TD to Godwin..lucky as heck.
Second to Godwin..all praise to Godwin, that was an awful pass
Perriman? Dude was standing all alone, with any touch that’s a TD.
Plenty of other balls that an elite QB doesn’t throw.
Without ME13’s catch radius and CG12’s crazy ability, JW would be almost a carbon copy of R Fitzpatrick, without the bruising running style.
One questionably good game against another bad defense (see AZ), doesn’t change a thing for JW. On the bright side the D played like an NFL D, albeit against a Dork Koetter offense.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:46 am
Jmark the pass to perriman did NOT push him out of bounds. Perriman has the footwork of an 80 year old. He turned around and lost his balance. As for the pass to godwin, the second td. No it wasnt an awful pass. There was a linebacker right in jameis face, did you just miss him? He throws that pass straight and its picked off and youd have something else to complain about. Only jameis can drop an dime for a 71 yard td and our clown fans would complain about it.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:49 am
1987,
You know you’re breaking a lot of hearts…….
I’m tired and 87 is right must be beside himself right now.
Can you please tell us the exact time of your moment of clarity?
BTW, welcome ack to sanity!
November 25th, 2019 at 11:49 am
Only The Bucs would want to drive the #2 QB in the league in passing yards and TDs out of town.
Mike Glennon, Josh McClown, and Josh Freeman weren’t that long ago people. I think we’ve forgotten what it’s like to have a QB that cant move the ball downfield. Appreciate what we have.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:49 am
They call me Mr Tibbs …errr Mr FAMOUS!!!
November 25th, 2019 at 11:49 am
Anyone talking about catch radius’ and Jameis having good WRS is a joke. I mean c’mon man it’s the NFL all receivers are fast and have great catch radius’. IGNORANCE IS BLISS…….
November 25th, 2019 at 11:50 am
It’s time for him to pad his stats like he does every year. When the games do not matter for either team. The stats will make to fools think that he can be fixed.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:50 am
Lheew Says:
“I’ve heard enough from these ignorant fans, you are all just racist I swear.”
You’re right….we only like just the white players on the team.
How many is there? 5? 6?
November 25th, 2019 at 11:52 am
You can always tell when the trolls come out. Pick any jameis article and you have like 12 new profiles commenting the same garbage comments. Cant wait till jameis comes back next year. It will be so worth it to hear you all complain.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:54 am
i really dont see how we can win with an inconsistent QB….
imo, the only way to win with JW is are our defense to play like it did every week and have no weeks off and GAY cant have an off week either….
he bounced back which is great but against a good team like the CAR or NO, we wouldve been down double digits after those 2 TO’s….
we played a 3-7 team led by dirk…lol…we know dirks offense moves the ball between the 20s and cant score…lol…
before we talk resigning JW, lets see him play consistently…..no obvious JW TOs or bad pass TOs….
GO BUCS!!!!!
November 25th, 2019 at 12:07 pm

November 25th, 2019 at 12:10 pm
What a pathetic fan base…I am soooo glad you are not the coaches!!! The coaches know what they got, know what they see and not all fans but a select few only have adverse opinions.
Go BUCS…coaches coach, players play, fans criticize and fantasize!
This set of coaches have the stragedy, vision to make a high powered team, but it it will take TEAMWORK to make the DREAMWORK!
They are DEVELOPING A team with moxy and grit, using what they got! Moxy and grit starting with the QB ending with the kicker…talent can be drafted but the stuff they are developing comes from the inside of the players..
NO RISK IT NO BISCUIT…Go Bucs!!!
Please shut the naysayers down!!!
November 25th, 2019 at 12:24 pm
Look it’s football. Coaching has more to do with success in this sport than any other. You can make a player a star in football. You think you can make a player a star in baseball or basketball? That being said as long as Leftwich actually calls a decent game and the OL plays well Winston will be fine. If they don’t pull their weight they are only setting Winston up for failure as no QB can overcome a bad coach or bad OL.
November 25th, 2019 at 12:24 pm
If you are still debating whether or not to keep a qb after 5 years, the answer is pretty obvious to me. Hell no, he’s not worth young, franchise qb money. We have seen guys like this before (Jay Cutler, Jeff George) who are the equivalent of a hot girl that makes you want to pull your hair out. Eventually, you have got to part ways to save your sanity. Go be someone elses pain in the a$$ Jameis.
November 25th, 2019 at 12:25 pm
Lheew, are you stupid, ignorant, or just need attention. This fan base has idolized many great, black players. Simeon Rice, Warren Sapp, Keenan McCardell, Warrick Dunn, Doug Williams, etc. That’s 5 seconds of thought off the top of my head. If we currently had a great black QB instead of a crotch grabbing, man-child, turnover machine, this town would be crazy over the top in idolizing him. Someone like Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson, or Patrck Mahomes. Rascists like YOU make me want to puke!!!
November 25th, 2019 at 12:30 pm
Im on the fence of franchising him. Like one of the Joe’s said, if you create a hole at a position, you better have a very good player for that spot. I seriously think we will franchise him and give him one more year to stop the bone headed decision making. I think its a maturity issue.
But i could be wrong, and if we sign someone else, a vet and draft a rook, im ok with that too. Ive gotten angry many times at JW. But when he’s on he’s one of the best.
November 25th, 2019 at 12:32 pm
One win and the Jameis backers are out in force.
November 25th, 2019 at 12:32 pm
We’ll never win with Winston.
…And Joe, I’m still waiting on my Devin White article.
November 25th, 2019 at 12:37 pm
Tvan101
Haha. Yeah. And it was against a 3-7 team. Love bucs wins but also have to realize the facts.
November 25th, 2019 at 12:42 pm
How many times are these idiot receivers going to knock the ball into the air? Literally the first thing I remember about playing football, the first thing I recall being coached was you NEVER knock the ball into the air, ever.
Anywho the Bucs are 3rd in scoring in the NFL, and 31st in scoring defense.
But yeah tards, keep talking about Winston as if he’s the problem.
November 25th, 2019 at 12:45 pm
I will be happy to see Jamies leave just like the rest of yall. So you guys can be happy losing with another quarterback. We need defense and a offensive line and all you guys see is Jamies. A quarterback does not win games look at the Patriots they are wining and Brady is playing bad . Defense wins championships and that’s just the way it is rather you guys and the national media like or not….
November 25th, 2019 at 12:46 pm
Buczilla,
I do like your analogy to a hot girl who makes you insane. I will always be a Jameis fan, however, I can’t be both a Jameis fan and a Bucs fan simultaneously. The two just are not compatible.
I think the loss of Humphries hurt a lot more than people realize. We really don’t have that player who can create lateral separation within 15 yards of the LOS. I also think Leftwich’s playcalling doesn’t create the highest probabilty setups for Winston.
I have no regrets about drafting Winston. His positives have been almost everything we thought we were getting– there was every reasin to be hopeful his negatives could be corrected (and many were). He was the best QB available that year, better than Prescott who had the benefit of playing behind a much better OL and better defense.
So again, much like the hot girl analogy, there were some great rides but enough is enough. Time to move on.
November 25th, 2019 at 12:47 pm
Jameis now has 4 victories, most in 3 years. 6,9,3,3,4
November 25th, 2019 at 12:59 pm
Dewey – Hey dummy, what’s the defensive rankings for those years? What’s the kicking game looked like?
Or right stupid, that doesn’t matter because there’s only one player on a team.
LOL!
November 25th, 2019 at 1:07 pm
In my opinion if BA hasn’t flinched on his support for Winston after #19 and #20 Int after throwing 4 the week before guess who will be starting under center next year?
November 25th, 2019 at 1:22 pm
It ain’t over until the fat lady shrieks. Now that we have those troubling playoff possibilities out of the equation rest easy.
November 25th, 2019 at 1:22 pm
Agree with SOEbuc that Winston has to go.. he will never win consistently to get us a Champiinship. But Your comment on bringing in Kaepernick on earlier article still has me in shock!!
November 25th, 2019 at 1:24 pm
He is going to get franchised so not sure what everyone is arguing about. It’s a given…
November 25th, 2019 at 1:26 pm
I’m so flippy floppy on this guy.
Today my mood is: I can handle the picks if he puts up 30+ every game. But it’s my opinion you pay the big money to QB, LT, and pass rush. If we sign him and Shaq long term, that will take money away from ME and CG.
Unpopular opinion coming up!
I say we trade the wideouts for 2 reasons.
1) I’m not a firm believer in paying wideouts big money. Even with the talent as exceptional as ours.
2) Licht has proven to be good at getting decent pass catchers all over in the draft and even undrafted. It’s easier for us to have decent, young, cheap wideouts then to have a cheap, young qb.
November 25th, 2019 at 1:38 pm
We believe in JW. He will absolutely break the 27 interception NFL record. Come on JW. We have faith in you.
November 25th, 2019 at 2:44 pm
Your mac about the amount of money he will make but your not a hater uh ok whatever, if this team goes 8-8 or 7-9 you can expect to see him under the franchise tag next year. The jump pass wasnt dumb it was off target and honestly an elite qb would have just thrown it in the dirt. Interceptions I hate are when you clearly stare down a receiver or decide you’ll throw it to a guy no matter what the situation or how well he is covered. The jump pass its whatever, fix the o line because no quarterback can handle being under constant pressure especially a rookie. I’m sure there are a lot of dumb fans that think this team will be in the playoffs once they get a rookie qb which implies not else is wrong with the roster except Winston
November 25th, 2019 at 2:45 pm
Winston alone, all by himself, costs the Bucs 4-6 game per year. Ugh. But I guess it makes entertaining TV. Everybody loves a tragedy that is a comedy.
November 25th, 2019 at 3:58 pm
Bucs are known for great defense, just not since Jameis has been QB. Jameis has piled up franchise records on offense behind some of the most pathetic excuses for an OL, and virtually no ground attack with the exception of one season. Fix the team around him, and he will win games for you. The interceptions will still happen, but a record number of tds will make up for it. Starting over from square one with a rookie, wastes the older star talent we have on this team.
November 25th, 2019 at 4:59 pm
1sparkybuc
Bucs are known for 1 fluke expired championship and consistently losing not defense…. that was pretty funny though especially because you may actually believe that
November 25th, 2019 at 5:14 pm
Except he can’t throw the deep ball.
November 25th, 2019 at 5:47 pm
SMH, I read these comments and all the talk is about the turnovers….. There is no talk about his effort….Joe talks about the jump pass beng dumb…..If he makes that throw, we are calling it a great play, you know – like the left hand throw the previous Sunday…..The effort was there on both plays….One was successful….The other s failure…..One guy mentioned he almost over threw Perriman…..Well, He kept that play alive by avoiding the Falcons defensive rush, sliding to his right and heaving the ball down field….In Y’all’s world, when that pressure can, he should have thrown it away…..But he did what any QB would do…..His effort kept the play alive and it was successful instead of a lack or throwaway……One guy mentioned he can’t take the pressure and doils his shorts…..He threw those two INTS but instead of folding or soiling his shorts…..Each time the Falcons scored, ole soil his shorts, can’t take the pressure Winston drove the team down the field to the tune of 31 pts ( minus the 3 missed PATS)…….Joe mentioned that Winston is second behind Mahomes in passes thrown 40 yrds….Let that sink in – looks like to me he throws a pretty good deep ball…. Either he is BETTER or WORST than 30 other QB in the league…..Joe mentioned that Winston is 8 in QB rush yards……I would like to see the names of the other QBs on that list…..I bet they are all considered what is called the ” RUNNING QB”….You know, the type that has designed running plays, Jackson, Jones, Wilson, Watson, and other….Unlike Winston, who bascially runs for life……Y’all bitch and whine about multiple INTs pg….In Sunday’s game, all ya bitch about is the two INTs, seems to me he was more successful throwing three TDs and completing well over half his passes than he was at throwing INTs……I guess that is the cause and effect of either seeing the glass half empty or half full.
November 25th, 2019 at 5:51 pm
Lets see him string out some wins and play under control. His inconsistancy is very consistant. Breathe for minute, you had (2) 3-7 teams playing yesterday, how good was Jameis against the Saints’ defense? Pretty average to me. Yesterday he was mostly good but the jump pass int. was crazy. He has a real difficult time making throws to receivers that are moving horizontally, you see it pretty regularly that he misses the intermediate routes that teams like New England and Pittsburgh run. Its just the way he throws the ball, he has difficulty making quick throws accurately. His best balls are when he can step into it and zing it 20-25 yards on a straight line.
November 25th, 2019 at 6:04 pm
@87
Wow! You are correct…you were NDOG before there was an NDOG.
Your pronouncement stunned me. It reminded me of when LBJ upon seeing Cronkite announce we couldn’t win in Vietnam…”If I’ve lost Walter I’ve lost the nation”.
If JW has lost you…I’ll be honest…that makes it tougher for me to continue to support him…even with all my reservations
I’ve always considered you the expert of all things Jameis. I remember clearly how you schooled me in JW during all the draft debates.
November 25th, 2019 at 7:25 pm
What are you talking about. JW is incredibly consistent. He consistently throws an interception on the Bucs opening drive to give the opponent great field position and test his own defense. I think he does it to see how he needs to play the rest of the way. If the defense bows up and only allows a field goal, he can continue to be reckless with the ball. If they fold like a house of cards, he knows he needs to light it up.
November 25th, 2019 at 11:32 pm
I used to defend Jameis and I am still holding a tiny piece of hope it’s buried deep so far down I can’t find it sometimes.
I feel like these last 5 years have been the most angry and hate filled seasons for Buccaneers Fan. Sad 😞 but true.
Winston is like a Disease
