The March To $100 Million Guaranteed

Dollar signs must be dancing in the head of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.
Six games from now, Jameis could be poised to pull in a market-value contract of at least $100 million guaranteed.
But there’s a big catch, Jameis must stop turning the ball over at his torrid pace, and he likely has to deliver five strong games out of six. Whatever anyone thinks of Jameis, the reality is that he will command a fortune if he pulls off a fantastic finish to the season.
Sure, the Bucs could slap a franchise tag on Jameis for 2020 that would pay him around $27 million, and at any time the franchise tag can be ripped up and a new contract signed, but when’s the last time franchising a quarterback worked out?
Joe assumes Bucco Bruce Arians and Team Glazer have yet to decide on Jameis’ future in Tampa. One would think if they had, either Jameis would be benched already or a Bucs official would have gotten the word out that he’ll be here next season.
So Joe can only conclude Jameis is playing for a contract with six games to go.
And the fun thing is that Jameis knows it. The playoffs are lost, but how will Jameis rise to the pressure of his career being in the balance? This should a better reality miniseries than Hard Knocks.

Winston is a backup at best. When he is 35 years old his team will still be waiting for him to “develope”. And he will cost a couple of more head coaches their jobs.

Winston history tells us he wont finish strong so this is all hopeful thinking. He has choked when it was all on the line see Oregon NC game. Yes a good D is part of it but Lichty is bad…real bad so you wont ever see a D that can keep a team to 20pts or less. If Winston has 2 or more turnovers in a game, Id like to see Griffin. This is team eval time and the Glazers may need to make more changes as something is missing. Griffin deserves a chance based solely on Winston’s bad play to date. How much worse can it get?

Here is the thing about Jameis-
If he turtles up like he did the end of last year, he won’t turn it over, but he won’t be himself and Bucs offense will probably score less points and Bucs will likely lose.
If he plays like the high wire act he is- Bucs will score but turn it over 2-3 times.
So, really he needs a dominant defense to win during regular season.
But turnovers never work in playoffs, regardless of your D, because other playoff teams have good D’s as well

And Dooshlarule, when your defense is constantly giving up 30+ points a game, it forces your offense to be extra agressive and force the ball downfield hence a higher turnover %. Make no bones about it this offense with this team is NOT QB friendly.

The only thing that’s in Jameis corner regarding his performance thus far is that Carson Palmer under basically the same offense also had a bad first half of his first year with Arians. That said, Palmer was a veteran and already established while Jameis has only established the fact that he’s a turnover machine who can put up a lot of yards but not a lot of wins. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

While I agree that there is not chance Jameis gets $100 million guaranteed after this season, he could actually earn a $100 million 4 year contract with only the first year guaranteed. That gives him QB money, but also gives the Bucs an out since he is still unproven.
And that contract can have milestones he has to achieve to get the full amount.
That’s assuming he doesn’t totally blow it the rest of this season.
Of course, so many here have already made up their minds to move on. Truthfully, I’m on the fence right now. I’ll wait until after the season to make up my mind, not that my opinion matters.
I really would like to see Griffin play a game or two though. Maybe due to injury.

When was the last time the Bucs played in a true defensive battle. You see it every week in the NFL especially the Seahawks. 10-13, 17-10, etc.
I have to go all the back to 2015 when the Bucs played Matt Cassel and the Cowboys in a 10-6 game. 2015! Matt Cassel!

Even if Jameis Winston doesn’t turn the ball over the rest of season, he should not get any deal what’s so ever from the Bucs. The Bucs should move on completely and look else where for their QB. For five years Winston has proven that he cannot be trusted. With his alarming turn-overs and inaccurate passing Winston is a liability more than an asset.
The question is though, does Bruce Arians(BA) want Winston to come back? BA has shown that no matter what, he has Winston’s back,even through all the turn-overs. BA has said publicly that not all the interceptions are on Jameis, however, Buc fans disagree and are now ready to move on.

If they pay him any more than 10 million for one year then this organization truly inept.He can’t carry the team on his own and that’s what you’d pay for someone who could ( Wilson , Rodgers, etc.) I honestly believe they’ve moved on from JW and this year was the “final” experiment. If they keep him they’ll need to radically change their coaching concepts akin to what Gruden runs.. This vertical attack is great for racking up points but can’t sustain drives, increase the potential for turnovers (particularly in the hands of a an who has difficulty making reads and tends to overthrow receivers ). The other issue is that they keep putting the defense in short field positions and they’re on the field way too often. Winston needs to be in much more tightly controlled scheme that doesn’t allow for faulty pre snap reads. JW is great in the film room and compligets the concepts in review but when he’s on the field something mentally happens that prevents quick recognition. I wonder if he’s struggling with anxiety?

Winston has lost as many games as the D as a matter of fact it is almost exactly 50/50. One of the reasons our D is bad is because with the three and outs and the turnovers they are defending a very small field. Not saying they are good but the offense is just as much to blame as the Defense and in some cases even more because they eat up a large portion of the Salary Cap

This scheme doesn’t fit the qb. BA is obviously ego driven and believed he could fix JW but I’m not sure they assessed his strengths vs. weaknesses well enough. This Offensive staff is also pretty intractable. Why they heck can’t they commit to the run? The interior line is decent enough. And what about the middle of the field? I honestly don’t get this offensive philosophy.

Look at what John Lynch has done…
First year, didn’t have a QB, second year lost his QB… all the while building the D and the RB’s and every other position.
Then he gets his pretty good but not great QB back…9-1.

After Jameis remarks about how much this game is like a home game for him I almost threw up. He has no idea about the meaning of a team, he is self centered, almost narcissistic. It is part of why he can’t retain all of the film work when he gets on the field.

First 4 games the Bucs had the leading rusher all 4 times and probably should have come out with a 3-1 record.
Last 6 games the Bucs have had the leading rusher in only 1 game and they won that game. Their only win.
Until this team gets an identity that they will run the ball and run it well they will continue to be a bad team.
It’s not rocket science that if you are effective running the ball it opens up other opportunities for scoring. Running the ball is sooooooo important because it is virtually RISK FREE. How many times have you heard of a RB losing 3 fumbles in a game? More balance is needed to move the needle. I’m not optimistic.

As for Jimmy Johnson he only won when he had Emmitt Smith. The one season Smith missed the first two games because of contract holdout Johnson LOST those and Smith was signed ASAP.
Jimmy also had Dan Marino and well that didn’t go as planned now did it Jimmy.

I’ll tell you this…Jameis gets that 100 mil. contract, and the Glazers have basically married the franchise to one player in the foreseeable future…Jameis. And if he continues the Jeckyl/ Hyde routine the rest of the year and foreseeable future, I’m left with only three alternatives…one, accept being a fan of a laughing stock of the league for the rest of my life, two, become a Packer fan, or three, forget Sunday football and the antics of the Buffoonish refs, in other words, change the channel permanently or turn the TV off (in other words, I’d likely live longer).

Jameis will not get a long term extension. The last 6 games won’t make that difference. He’s either gone or on a 1 year deal next year.
If they signed him to a long term deal with giant guaranteed money, I’d end my association with this team, permanently.

For Winston. He’d be much better off starting somewhere else. The Bucs suck from management to coaching to owners… all around a recipe for disaster. Worst OLine ever that is wasting a generational talent.

Jameis has had 5 years to fix this problem. He’s not going to fix it in 6 games. This is the best he’s going to get.
