JPP: “I Would Love To Be Here”

November 21st, 2019

Talks Bucs future.

With apologies up front to those who will be offended, Joe is not much interested in strategy on how the Bucs will beat the Dixie Chicks or the rest of their opponents. Joe wants the Bucs to do the right thing and play for a draft position.

So Joe is thinking forward. What will this team look like next year and who will be back and who may not be back? One such player Joe wonders about is Jason Pierre-Paul.

The sackmeister of the Bucs has demonstrated over the years, both recent and past, he is not ever to be taken for someone who may be washed up until he proves he is on the field.

After recovering from his broken neck, JPP and the Bucs agreed to a reworked contract which allows JPP to be a free agent after this season. So Joe asked JPP if he wants to be back with Tampa Bay, given the reasonable expectation the Bucs will once again (10th time in the last 12 years) finish the season as losers.

Initially, JPP seemed not to want to answer. But he admitted, yeah, he likes playing in Tampa. And yes, he’d like to return to the Bucs in 2020.

“It is not up to me, really — well, it is up to me,” JPP said. “At the end of the day I would love to be here. It is close to home. I went to school up here. I’m comfortable.

“Wherever I am at, I will comfortable in my own skin. I would love to be here next year. We’ll see. I am a free agent. Next year, we will see.”

Joe would like to see JPP back, too. So long as he doesn’t ask for crazy money.

There is no question that JPP is a warrior. And he has been influential with the young players on the team on a very good front-seven.

Joe can think of a whole lot worse ways the Bucs can waste Team Glazer loot.

only fitting Im first. Hell yea..and Id re-sign em… please make Tmaxcon cry and say more irrelevant comments

  2. tmaxcon Says:

Of course he wants to be in Tampa…. easy money, no stress, no expectations and no media attention compared to real nfl franchises. Glazers have a top rated low pressure retirement program… All Aboard Glazer retirement Express…. it’s not just for coaches

  3. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

JPP, Suh, Barrett…why would any one of them want to stay? Two of which approaching the twilight of their careers, I dont see them staying without a hefty payday.

  4. Buccernutter Says:

I think Barrett will want to stay because we gave him an opportunity when not many others would and is close to breaking many records. He’s a good guy so I definitely see him staying.

JPP not so much, although he does live in Florida and he has a ring, so the only thing left is a potential hall of fame career which he could do pretty much anywhere including here.

Suh… he’ll go wherever the money is at evidently but I’m ready to move on.

  5. D-Rome Says:

Spot on tmax, 100%. The team should be called the Sun City Center Buccaneers because it’s where the retirees go to kick back and receive free money.

  6. Buccernutter Says:

We have about 90 in cap next season. If Jameis is let go, which i doubt he will be, then that’s lots of spending money. I say sign both for around 15 each which will leave 60. Pick one should go to OL if it isn’t spent on a QB and pick 2 should go to DT, DE even Safety and I’m paying the best free agent CB possible which will cost roughly 12.

Let’s say we keep jameis jpp and barrett. That leaves about 35 million. Use about 12 on the CB and thats 23. 7 for rookies and that leaves 16. Then I’m spending like 8 on depth.

  7. Allbuccedup Says:

Like to see JPP back at a reasonable salary. Never a Suh fan Barrett may be too expensive. Could use Suh Barrett money to sign Byron Jones or Marcus Peters.

  8. Gettinthebucs Says:

    He’ll be in Kansas City

  9. doctor_berto Says:

Hope he does. Barrett is going to be too expensive for his production recently (now that teams are focusing on stopping him).

  10. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Doesn’t fit the scheme

We need a Josh Allen type player”

    Lord Cornelius

  11. SammyRebel Says:

We need to really on keep jpp and Barrett, don’t really care about suh, yea the guys is a beast in the run game but what else is he doing? We have man beast Vea (moana’s dad) I’m sure we can find a low cost harder pass rusher to replace suh , other then that the free agents we have unrestricted are not worth bringing back , let Nassib walk too not sold on him kid has drive but he’s slow and the guy we drafted from Iowa is just as good as him , we have almost $100 in cap , tag Jameis and distribute that money to guys who will turn this ship around and end the retirement program per tmaxx

  12. zzbuc Says:

I would sign JPP, I would sign Barret depending of how much and I would move on form Suh.
Barret has been in the league for what? 5 years? just only one productive?
    I wouldn´t put a bunch of money….no way!!! A good contract that´s about it

  13. Troy Says:

Why play for the draft when your drafter is inept? Hoping the blind squirrel gets a nut aye? Good GMs do not care where they draft

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

We have a LOT of questions to answer before 2020.

The vast majority for me are answered by…yeah keep them if the price is right….

I’ll even include JW in that but I suspect given the QB market in the NFL we really can’t afford him.

DE is another position that commands mega bucks…if JPP will take a good offer keep him.

Same for Shaq Barrett whose sack totals guarantee a good payday.

I’m prepared to lose all three…not because I’m anxious to see them go…I just do not believe we have the shekels to sign them.

  15. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Spoken like someone who doesn’t pay to get into see games.

Can’t play for the draft when your GM and Head Coach are awful at the draft. Look at Arians drafts in AZ for proof of that

  16. JP_09 Says:

Joe wants the Bucs to play for draft position, but not draft the position that needs to be fixed the most….

if JW returns, JPP wants out….bucs let JW walk, he’ll come back…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  21. Season Is Over Says:

Jason Licht is the worst GM in professional sports. It is an absolute tragedy that this city has had to put up with him after dealing with Dominik for so long. The guy has made blunder after huge blunder without consequence. In fact, he has been rewarded. He has lost the respect of any fan that truly cares about the team.

Who would want to be here as a player? Licht has played a commanding role in making this team an absolute joke since Gruden left. Paid Florida vacations have become the norm. You would have thought Licht could have forced a grip on the calamity, yet the team remains in the gutter for his entire stay with little hope on the horizon because of his ineptness. It is not rocket science. Couch GMs could be just as effective. I’m not kidding. I still don’t understand why the story about his burner account was buried. It was the most logical thing written about the Bucs in seasons.

  22. Jean Lafitte Says:

After the first paragraph I skipped the rest. Constantly advocating to tank the rest of the season is so morally wrong. Joe must have an agenda other than moving up a couple measly spots in the draft like using it to throw cover on Jameis by saying we weren’t trying to win anyway. Where’s my vomit bag?

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

Jpp nor Suh will be here next year. As usual, Licht will go..Dipster Dumping for used and abused talent. This franchise is on the verge of truly losing even more of the small support fan base they have. The few fans I do know, are either angy, telling jokes about their Bucs or cursing everytime Bucs are mentioned. Sad state of affairs here guys…Truly Sad.

  24. Bosch Says:

How else do you answer a question like that when there are still games to be played this year?

  25. TampaTown Says:

You’re an idiot. Please stop with this draft position bu!!$hit. This team has to learn how to win, and stack some wins if this is ever going to turn around. WTH is wrong with you

  26. Kansas95Buc Says:

What’s the point of losing for a draft spot if its not going to be spent on area of concern? Losing for draft picks is a legit loser mentality

  27. TampaTown Says:

As a season ticket holder the last thing I want for all the money I invest in this team is to have to watch them try and lose. Are you fn kidding me? It’s time we start punching other teams in the mouth, not curl up like a pu$$y on the turf. WTF easy for you to say watching for free from the press box.

  28. Danny Says:

For the last time. The draft is a crapshoot. Repeat after me. You. Do. Not. Play. For. Draft. Position. Period.

  29. TampaTown Says:

    ^^^
    What he said

  30. TampaTown Says:

The Patriots play for draft position every year and always get it. #31 or #32

  31. The Buc Realist Says:

Yes, the Bucs need to tank for the draft!!!!!! Not only that, then need to keep in mind of “NOT SIGNING” these guys for compensatory picks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Sheep will not want to admit it, and will keep the attitude of The Bucs are only one missing piece away and that they should overpay in free-agency, But The Bucs are that far behind “real” nfl teams!!!!!!!!!!

2019 revealed answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Buccernutter Says:

More inaccurate, lazy analysis by 813.

JPP has now ill will towards Winston.

  33. Buccernutter Says:

    no**

  34. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So, Joe…..to JPP…..”Hey, JPP, you’ve got a bum knee & suffered a broken neck…..missing a few digits………what do you think about going out there Sunday and “playing for the draft”?

Thank goodness none of our coaches or players “play for the draft”……it may appear they are trying to lose….but they are actually not.

  35. Jean Lafitte Says:

If Jameis is here next year JPP won’t be back and not because of some ill will between them but rather Winston’s new contract would suck the financial life out of the Bucs and JPP being a FA will be looking to get paid.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Good lord.

Why does no one get this?

Jason Pierre-Paul’s Contract for next year was not guaranteed. That means the Bucs could have kept him or not, without worrying about being forced to keep him. Releasing him would have cost them nothing.

So why drop the final year of his contract?

Because the other side insisted on it in return for reducing his cap hit this year. Jason Pierre-Paul wants out of Tampa. It’s obvious.

He might say he would like to stay, but if that were really the case, he would not have had next year dropped from his contract.

  37. Wesley Says:

I’d like to have him but hes not worth 16 million.

  38. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

He does not fit the losing scheme here in Tampa…I hope he returns but if I were him I’d go play for the team with the best chance of late season SB opportunity …screw the money …get that RING !

  39. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Consider this: In what areas has this team improved this year?

One of them is Defensive Line.

So if we lose JPP, Suh and Barrett (none are signed at the moment), then we are back at square one.

That will mean another year of training new Dlinemen in this defense. No progress at all.

    Well, except for the kicker.

    #ShowMeDon’tTellMe

  40. Jameis Almighty! Says:

I agree to play for the draft. At this point what does the season matter with an idiot like Licht and a first year OC Byron sandwich. The Bucs are a training facility for NFL talent to begin or end their careers. Free Jameis from this mess so the Bucs can select more trainees and sign more retirees…

  41. Zwak Says:

These guy don’t care where they play, they care about how much you are willing to pay them! They aren’t any different then anyone else, it’s a job..

  42. Jameis Almighty! Says:

Jameis to The Raiders! That’s the move. Free Jameis!

  43. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Bonzai

Suh will be 33 in January, JPP will be 31 in January!!!!!!!!!

How many years were you thinking that they will play before needing to be replaced?????????????

  44. JimmyJack Says:

I accept your apology Joe hahaha……..But I will make clear that losing on purpose is not not the right thing. That’s only your opinion.

Argued this point before don’t feel like doing it today. Alls that really matters is the Bucs will not be trying to lose football games on purpose and I can take my son to enjoy his first football game. And we can root for a win together………which is the way it should be.

  45. Jeagan1999 Says:

Just got my Suite tickets to the game in Atlanta on Sunday, and looking forward to seeing the Bucs/Falcons game in person! Love visiting Mercedes Benz Stadium once a year to get my Bucs fix! (I live just outside Atlanta)

That being said…..I wouldn’t be too upset if the Bucs lost. They’re not going anywhere this year, and with as many holes as their are to fill in the Draft (QB, OL, RB, CB), a higher Draft pick might go further in the long run, then the temporary feeling of a meaningless win during yet another losing season!

  46. JimmyJack Says:

Bonzai good point. When I think about that question I think in phases rather then position groups.

    -Run defense defientally better

-Pass defense is just as bad. Still see a chance to get better & improved. If that’s going to happen we should see signs this week with a big test vs Falcons.

    -Pass offense just as good.

-Run Offense is the same but am confident we start to open that part of the game up down the stretch here and overall will be an improved unit.

    -Special Teams defientally better.

So my conclusion is a lot still hinges on these last games and there’s much more to play for then dejected fans realize.

  47. JimmyJack Says:

The sky is falling I don’t care. I just want to feel good.

    Dreams leaving I don’t care.

GO BUCS! Beat the Falcons Sunday!!

  48. JimmyJack Says:

Jeagann the Falcons aren’t going anywhere either. And they gonna come out Sunday and try to embarrass us and kick our ass.

I for one am not wanting to see us bend over and let them pound us.

I want them in the cellar and I want a 500% record at home.

  50. Dom>Licht Says:

Play for the draft … LOL !! With Licht making the picks … LOL

  51. ModHairKen Says:

Anyone wanting to lose to improve draft position is a loser. You have no business being a fan.

  52. Anonymous Says:

For the price of Winston, you can get JPP and Barret, and high round rookie QB. With about $8M more, you can lock up Godwin long term; Nassib would be good to keep, but his value drops given his play is not up to last year’s levels. He’d bout about $6M. Suh not worth $13M, maybe 7. Spend the rest of the cap on FA, as there are plenty of holes. And oh yeah, bring in a FA QB game manager while the new QB gets up to snuff. Hitch this wagon to Winston, most of the above won’t happen and the hole gets deeper.

  53. Defense Rules Says:

Apology accepted Joe. To play for draft position is to sabotage all those players who really do give a damn. And to sabotage fans in the process. Lovie played for draft position more than likely when we went 2-14 in 2014 to get the #1 pick in 2015. How’s that worked out for you?

Bonzai … Great point about the DLine improving this year. And yes, Ndamukong Suh, JPP and Shaq Barrett have ALL been integral to that improvement. I’d keep all 3, but not at exorbitant salaries. All 3 have already demonstrated, and continue to demonstrate, that they can perform at a high level. Plus, their leadership on the defense going forward will be critical to our young defense as we draft their replacements over the next 2 years … HOPEFULLY.

  54. Kord Says:

Want them to do right and play for draft position? How good has having high draft picks been for the Bucs the last decade? Just win some damn games and finish this year with some sort of self respect

  55. BigHog Says:

BRING BACK BA …and let him handle all the hard choices!!!

  56. soggy Says:

Things were different in dallas I know but Jimmy Johnson admits to tanking on national tv and bragging how it got the cowboys to win the super bowl, Just sayin..

  57. TampaTown Says:

I don’t trust Jason Licht with the draft no matter what the pick is. He’s always trying to prove he knows something that no one else knows.

  58. George Rauh Says:

Jason Licht screwed us again. JPP was signed in 2020. He would of cost us 12.5 million. He reworked his contract, now he is a free agent.

  59. Adrnagy Says:

Dotson will be resign. All draft will go to defense.

  60. buc15 Says:

Man VHIII looks like a different player with the Texans.

  61. BucsBandit Says:

Anyone saying the draft doesn’t matter, especially when this team needs a new QB, is an idiot.

Winning at this point in the system is nothing but a WASTE.

The next draft is loaded with QB talent. Maybe one of the best QB drafts in 7+ years.

    Burrow, Tua, Herbert, Eason.

The worst possible thing we could do at this point is to win a bunch of meaningless games and miss out on drafting our future franchise QB.

    Wohoooo ATM IMPLOSION!!!!!!!

Here’s rooting for straight losses rest of the way AND horrible 5 Turnover games from America’s Groper!!!!! Yaaaay

  64. Daminator Says:

JPP IS NEEDED HERE – ability -leadership trade OJ for as
Much as possible -we have many needs -Patriots will give us defensive line man or offensive linemen which will immediately improve team
If a star linebacker coming out trade David to AFC and put him on a good team
White has grown and with the youth of a new quarterback back we can choose an up and coming linebacker. Trade one of youngsters from the defensive backfield with any running back but Jones and get a decent lineman
Draft should reward us with quarterback, lineman, receiver
With such a younger team trade Mike Evans to Houston — they should be able to fill whatever is still needed through draft or trade or both

  65. RustyRhinos Says:

Jameis Almighty, there is no way Jameis Winston could play for Jon Gruden. His fragile ego would never make it to training camp. With Gruden in his ear nonstop, and after his first multi turnover game Gruden would lose his mind and voice that loss right into Jameis ear. And Mr. Winston who we know can’t have anyone pushing him, because he then begins to look over his shoulder at his competition. Winston and Gruden would never make it past the first few games. And if heaven forbid Winston has a Oopsie moment on the first play of the game, I doubt Winston could handle the wrath from Grudens mouth.

  66. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    The Buc Realist Says
    “@Bonzai

Suh will be 33 in January, JPP will be 31 in January!!!!!!!!!

How many years were you thinking that they will play before needing to be replaced?”

Oh, I don’t have any issue with replacing Suh and JPP.

But my parents taught me that you don’t quit a job until you have another one lined up. By the same token, it would be smart to keep both of them one more year and develop their replacements.

You and I both know draft picks ALMOST never produce instantly.

And the final year on JPP was a bargain. He still produces.

  67. Brandon Says:

A 3rd round pick for a season and a half rental and all of you buffoons were on board. You also wanted to send pics for everybody else under the sun, trade up for Trent Richardson, and sign every free agent with a recognizable name possible. Fans clearly don’t know how winning football teams are built.

  68. TOM Says:

I would sign Nassib, Barrett & JPP. Let Suh walk. Need to keep the starting front seven intact as much as possible. If they let JW walk, they could pay the three I mentioned with what they save.

  69. Buccernutter Says:

    Jean, wrong yet again.

We will have 90 mil in cap space. We can afford both and plenty more…

  70. lowercaseg Says:

He loves tampa bay in general and only wants the best. resign the man he’s got the heart and energy we need.

  71. BigMacAttack Says:

Keep JPP, Suh and Barrett. Make a deal with the group. Draft a QB and turn this thing around. The Money you save on Shamus will keep these guys in Tampa. They also need at least one guard and tackle
