Jason Licht Talks “Operation” Gay
November 20th, 2019In the world of full-time professional field goal kickers, rookie Matt Gay ranks ninth in the league when it comes to percentage of field goals made.
And among the 87 percent of attempts he’s drilled, Gay has converted 12 of 14 from 40 yards and beyond.
That’s a good a kicker right there. And good kickers especially stand out in the general manager Jason Licht era because kicking prior to Week 3 of this season was a freakin’ circus.
Every Bucs fan knows the sorry back story that appears to have been rectified with a 2019 fifth-round draft pick.
Just before kickoff Sunday, Licht was flowing with Gay pride but he was more about the whole kicking unit.
“It’s the operation in general with [long snapper Zach] Triner and [holder Bradley] Pinion,” Licht told the Buccaneers Radio Network. He pointed to the kicking machine in Baltimore, where the snapper-holder team with iconic kicker Justin Tucker has been “together for 8 or 9 years.”
After the March wave of free agency, Bucco Bruce Arians called Pinion the team’s top offseason signing. He incorrect, but he might not have been too far off.

Lichts best pick since he’s been here. pitiful
November 20th, 2019 at 12:11 pm
Light has been a really great gm …for the rest of the nfc south :>))
November 20th, 2019 at 12:16 pm
Licht shouldn’t even be allowed to make statements at this point imo
November 20th, 2019 at 12:17 pm
Yes, really came into play in that close one with the Saints last week.
November 20th, 2019 at 12:18 pm
Who gives a chit what Licht has to say at this point?
He should spend less time talking and more time improving / turning over his scouting department.
Maybe then he wouldn’t have entire draft classes flaming out.
November 20th, 2019 at 12:18 pm
This is much overlooked but Pinion is ranked #2 in the NFL for touchback percentage…….with 87.1%……last year we were at 59.3%……
His punting stats are less impressive.
November 20th, 2019 at 12:30 pm
He reminds me so much of SeaBass
November 20th, 2019 at 12:35 pm
Maybe it was Anger the holder?
November 20th, 2019 at 12:36 pm
Thank god Pinion is costing us another draft pick.
This joke of a GM has spent a 2nd, 5th, and future compensatory pick on kickers and punters
November 20th, 2019 at 12:38 pm
Gay pride, haha
What a line Joe(s)!
November 20th, 2019 at 12:42 pm
Gay pride, and operation Gay, Joe you need to bring out your humor more. Could you imagine a Gay -Anger pairing, lol………. Bucs win with Gay, Anger!!!!!!!!!
November 20th, 2019 at 12:45 pm
Wow! Just think it only took Jason Licht 6 years and countless millions to find a locker!
What other draft pick did he nail?
Everyone knows that a broken clock is right twice a day.
Peace, out
November 20th, 2019 at 12:45 pm
Gay pride and operation gay… I see what you did there Joe
November 20th, 2019 at 12:54 pm
The Glazers are doing their best job to make the Bucs a front office nightmare….just like the Washington Redskins.
Jason Licht sir, you have long overstayed your welcome. 30-60 loses in 90 games. 60. Loses.
Here’s a list of teams that have been better than the Bucs since Jason Licht took over as GM…….The Miami Dolphins, The Jacksonville Jaguars, The Titans, The Redskins, and even the Jets. Since 2014 the NY Jets have 31 wins, the Bucs have 30.

“Lichts best pick since he’s been here. pitiful”
So not true.
November 20th, 2019 at 12:55 pm
The only team the Bucs have been better than since 2014 is the Browns. Can’t think of another team who has been this bad for the last 6 years.
November 20th, 2019 at 1:05 pm
Joe can we get a story about the Pick to end the half.
-Down 13. roughly 10 second left
-technically already within Gay’s range (around 65 yards)
-OC calls play for 4 verticals when we only need 10 yards for higher percentage kick
-QB throws Pick

“Matt is going to chop it off?
I guess less resistance ”
Kobe Faker

November 20th, 2019 at 3:48 pm
Jason said It is not his fault it’s that AC DC Highway to Hell song that he can’t get it out of his head..
November 20th, 2019 at 6:27 pm
I think Gay has a great upside. Excellent pick up. Pinion and Triner? Yeah. I agree with you. It takes all three to be able to build a consistent kicking game.
November 20th, 2019 at 7:32 pm
Pinion is a good dude off field as well. Especially if you love dogs.
He and his wife love dogs so he is donating money required for adoption of the animals especially that large group that was recently rescued from a puppy mill in Tampa.
He got the idea of tying charitable contributions from a FG kicker who donates per every FG. Pinion donates every time he drops one inside the 20.
And he doesn’t just drop the bucks…he and his wife go out to the shelter and select animals they think will make good adoptions or animals who NEED to be adopted.
November 20th, 2019 at 7:57 pm
He blew the giants game and ruined the season. Who cares.
November 20th, 2019 at 8:06 pm
Why act like Licht is a legitimate GM?
November 20th, 2019 at 8:44 pm
Joe, I think you just set off an alarm at ACLU headquarters.
November 20th, 2019 at 9:05 pm
Censorship
November 20th, 2019 at 11:00 pm
Beside the holder two other thing were different when Aguayo was drafted to be our kicker.
1) There was no competition for the job of field goal kicker.
2) There was no dedicated kicking coach. (How many of you have ever heard of Chris Boniol?)
Could those two coaching decisions made a difference? Impossible to ever know now.
November 20th, 2019 at 11:32 pm
Jameis, you are correct. 1 of the 7 losses can be attributed to the kicker. What about the other six. There are many potentially correct answers to that one. Turnovers by your namesake, poor secondary, poorly coached secondary, poor coaching, period, and the list could go on and on. So how in the world have they won 3 games? Gay is a big part of that answer.

Im really happy now that I know so much about Dog Adoptions and the great work that is being done. THANKS ^^^^^^
November 21st, 2019 at 1:55 pm
Bosch. When Gay missed that kick the air came out of this team. They have sucked since with only 1 win in LA that was fueled by a magnificent performance by Famous Jameis.

“Licht was flowing with Gay pride…”
man I’m at work in tears lmao, thank you so much Joe for the much needed laugh
