Gift Givers

November 18th, 2019

Bucs coach talks gift-giving.

The Bucs, it seems to Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians, have a bad habit of playing Santa Claus.

Arians, opening his day-after presser today, said there is no doubt that early turnovers lost the game yesterday for the Bucs. It’s a rut the team has been in all season.

“We have a gift habit,” Arians said. “We keep giving away points early in games and then try to fight our way back.

“When you make those kind of mistakes, you are not going to win against a really good team. It’s been a habit and one we have to break, no matter whose fault it is. It’s been a habit of a gift early in the first quarter.”

Arians said this habit is driving him batty.

“It’s frustrating as a coach,” Arians added. “I see us practicing and preparing extremely hard. I mean guys are staying extra hours to prepare but then it is not showing up on Sunday.”

As a result, Arians all but admitted he now has the extra duties of playing shrink for the team.

“For me as a coach, I have to figure out why,” Arians said. “That’s kind of where we are at right now.”

Let this be an example of why, when a coach brags about his team works hard, it is empty talk. Joe hates “work hard” chatter. Joe cannot tell you how often yesterday he heard players and coaches talk about how hard the team worked last week and how good of practices they had last week.

Then on Sunday, the team enters the Den of Depression looking like they are sleepwalking, and before they wake up they are down three scores.

All that hard work and good practice leading up to the Saints game was a virtual waste of time the way the team played.

Joe is convinced this team just isn’t smart enough in games. Otherwise, the same crap we see each and every week for years wouldn’t keep repeating itself like a gerbil on a wheel.

Doesn’t matter who the coaches are, the dumb mistakes keep happening.

As long as the players remain the same, why should we expect a different outcome?

Joe – are you able to write an article showing IF the bucs were to blow up this team, cut vets, fire coaches/staff/GM, which players 26 and under they would keep as a nucleus to build around?

  2. Tampabuscsbro Says:

To be fair. The defense showed up at first. they kept is a one score game on two consecutive saints drives. It’s just going 3 and out then immediately coughing the ball up is too much for most defenses to handle. that is why we were immediately down 13 points.

  3. Buddy Says:

This team and org is a complete Joke. From ownership, coaching, equipment staff, and everything in between its a clown show.

  4. chris L Says:

does that last comment on players mean you are done with winston? depends which joe wrote this article but jameis contributes to majority of these turnovers. so what does that say?

  5. Polkfan Says:

After watching Oklahoma’s version of the 28-3 comeback and watching the ravens game, Jalen Hurts is starting to look more interesting as a trade back scenario everyday.

  6. Miller5252 Says:

what about the offense not moving the ball more 15 yards the first quarter? That first half was horrid!! What about the biggest coaching staff in league getting these guys fired up to play A DIVISION RIVAL!!! If you can’t get up for a division rival what’s the point of even playing…. looked like an embarrassment yesterday, the coaches and players should be giving the 10 Bucs fans that showed up their money back!!

  7. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Welcome to Buc Fan Reality Bruce…it has been going on for 4 1/2 years at a record setting pace….for a first year coach you have kept up with the pace !…of course the critical piece was already in place !

  8. miken Says:

The turovers don’t matter, Its the defense’s fault.

  9. tmaxcon Says:

so if we throw out the 5 years of winston we still have 12 years since last meaningful win…. who is the scapegoat for organizational incompetence and failure for the other 12 miserable failed seasons????

Just trying to keep the record straight how a franchise that has embarrassed itself for the better part of 40 years is blaming all it’s failures on a 25 year old fine young man who owns all the franchise records for his position.

this franchise sucked long before jameis…..getting rid of jameis will not magically fix this $hit $how!!!!

  10. Mike in MO Says:

It’s funny. No sad how the 49ers were in the same putrid position as the Bucs were until they traded for a true QB1 and hired a competent GM. Why is that so hard? It’s not rocket science. My goodness.

  11. SammyRebel Says:

Idk about everyone else here but I am sick of the same thing arians says every week it’s literally the same speal every week, Leftwich too, I am beyond sick of this coaching staff 10 games into the season, Joe am I the only one feeling this way?

  12. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Dumbest team and coaches in the league

Arians deserves this record for turning over the play calling to a neophyte and treating this job as a pre retirement party with his friends

  13. John F Ensch Says:

Is no one seeing that this whole team doesn’t seem bright enough to get it, week in and week out. I realize all these players have been playing since they were very young, but it’s not showing. As far as Jameis is concerned is all I see is him getting beat to death week after week. The offensive line coach for the Bucs is stealing money from the Glazers as well as the rest of the coaches. Arians is still retired as far as I can see from this team. They really don’t look like they have been coached at all.

  14. soggy Says:

    Santa clown bottom feeders baby..

  15. DB55 Says:

None of the TOs were Winston’s fault.

    1. OJ
    2. Hit as he throws. JW in shotgun tells Dare to shift to his left but Dare does not. Corner blitz comes from the left Dare is blocking a guy on the right, Cappa standing there blocking no one. Corner hits JW as he releases, Cam Jordan gets a finger on the pass. Pass wobbles short to Godwin defense cuts in front and tips it for the int. The backs are unable to block, I’m guessing that’s why RoJo isn’t in there all the time. Although I’ve seen his pass blocking improve as much as his catching.
    3. The previous play JW hurts his ankle due to piss poor blocking by DSmith. The play to me looks like 3 verts with Godwin running a curl at the sticks. Evans breaks to the post which is strange bc he running directly into the safety. JW throws the ball to the vertical route just outside the numbers where Evans started the route and imo should have continued the route, if that makes sense. Even the announcer said “that’s a miscommunication right there”. Seems to me like there’s a lot of miscommunication so either the receivers don’t know the plays or JW don’t know the plays. Neither is acceptable at this point in the season.
    4. Hobbling JW is setting the play and Jensen hikes it prematurely. Pressure comes immediately, unable to run or scramble JW throws it up to the end zone where mike can just out jump the defense. However mike continues the route to the sideline of the end zone and the pass fall short into the defenders hands. Mike then angrily very angrily runs up to Jensen and say “what happened?”

So in conclusion, the number 4 offense in the league is still learning the playbook and trying to get on the same page.

The center continues to f up the snap. This is the second if not third snap that has led to a turnover.

OJ is a freak athlete but fml at this point he’s a total liability.

Off topic, Minnesota was down 20 points at the half and never abandoned the running game, they came back and won.

Coach called 4 runs plays and the first play of the game was a 6 yard gain by RoJo but he continues to sit on the bench.

Puss poor all the way around, could it had been the weather was too cold? Did it hit 40 degrees? Real fans know what I’m talking about. Lol

Jason Lite threw Koetter under the Glazer bus and bought another year selling them on BA…Keotter will have his revenge come Sunday….Ronde Barber for General Manager !!!
BA is a competent HC…dump Jamyth
Buy a starting FA QB as a bridge
Draft a QB in the 2nd round
Draft a OT in the first round
    Draft trenches 3rd- 7th rounds
as I’ve said consider trading ME if the return is rich in picks or player

  17. 813bucboi Says:

players have tuned BA out…..they aint listening and they dont care…..

VHG loafs, gets called out in public, then released…..

the team response by coming out flat & unprepared while multiple players are caught loafing, whiffing and not giving max effort…..

BA has lost the locker room….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  18. Fire Goodell Says:

Since Dan Quinn gave up defensive play calling, Atlanta has not allowed an offensive TD in 10 quarters. Guess who’s helping call plays? Raheem Morris.

  19. Jean Lafitte Says:

What is the common denominator for the last 4 1/2 seasons? That’s right, Jameis Winston. He touches the ball 100% of the time and accounts for at least 85% of all turnovers. But we won’t go there, let’s pin it all on anybody but Jameis.

  20. Buccfan37 Says:

History repeats itself nearly every single game for the Bucs. Been there seen that and expect to be there and see it again. No words to explain the ongoing futility except exceedingly boring and boringly repetitious. This team can’t get out of its own way of ugliness football disguised as pro football.

  21. Proudbucsfan Says:

@ DB55, you are 100 percent absolutely right

  22. Alanbucsfan Says:

getting rid of jameis will not magically fix this $hit $how!!!!

Ya never know, TMax. Look what happened to Ravens after they dumped Flacco and went with Jackson

  23. Defense Rules Says:

DB55 … Good info & analysis. I’ve read elsewhere today that the Bucs’ OLine did a reasonable job of blocking yesterday. Horsepuckey, they were abysmal & should be ashamed of themselves for letting their QB get abused as badly as he was. The 2 sacks weren’t bad but the 12 QB Hits were terrible (and that doesn’t count the numerous other plays that Jameis was under relentless pressure).

Game planning was piss poor IMO, but beyond that, this deep ball, vertical, air-it-out philosophy is a dinosaur. It’s a prescription for getting your QB maimed. Unfortunately on TV you usually can’t tell if the checkdowns develop in a timely manner, but either they aren’t well-designed or guys aren’t executing them properly or Jameis is just staying glued downfield too long. He threw quite a few short passes, but they WEREN’T quick hits … even they took time to develop, giving the defense time to react (and several of those Jameis almost got picked off & the receivers decapitated).

That whole thing yesterday just reminded me of a Keystone Cops Comedy. And a bad comedy at that.

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Total inconsistency………I mean, look at OJ Howard’s juggled pass for an int……

Little things add up…….TJ Logan running out of bounds and not trying to get back in….15 yards….

    One thing is consistent……Demar Dotson’s false start….

Correct me if I’m wrong but Edwards’ sack was the first in 9 games from a DB….

    How can that be?

  25. Jim Says:

    Team is demoralized.

  26. Bird Says:

Jameis Claus coming to a city near you with plenty of booty

    who was the vikings opponent?….

thats why they didnt abandon the run…

    3 INTS were on JW…

    GO BUCS!!!

  28. DB55 Says:

    813

They were down 13-0 in the second when the last run was called at 14:16 in the second.

I only count 4 called runs as 2 were JW scrambles and the other two were audibles from the 1 yard line.

I keep trying to tell y’all that when a QBs gets hit 3 times much less 13 times it will effect them. Brady got hit 3 times yesterday and completely sucked AGAIN!

NO ONE NOT EVEN THE GOAT CAN QB UNDER CONSTANT PRESSURE, HITS AND SACKS. Look at Watson yesterday, he got beat up and he sucked.

    It’s just Football 101 my G.

  29. BucsBandit Says:

    HEHHEHEHEHEHE

The Jameis Winston Homerism on this site never fails to surprise me.

It’s mind boggling that some Bucs fans actually think Jameis is a ‘good’ NFL QB.

I love how there has been no defending him on how he could only lead our “4th ranked Offense” to like 25 total yards in our first 3 possessions against the Saints. Then again, I guess it’s always the O-Lines fault, regardless of the fact that statistically they rank above average in the NFL.

Anyone defending Winston and championing him to be resigned is an ENEMY OF THE FRANCHISE now.

  30. Skadi Skadi Says:

Joe Says: As long as the players remain the same, why should we expect a different outcome?

As long as the OWNERS remain the same, why should we expect a different outcome? — Fixed that for you.

Look at the Buccaneers’ cumulative record since Malcolm Glazer’s stroke in April 2006.

This is the 14th season with his son’s at the helm, amounting to 80 victories against 138 defeats for a .367 winning percentage across 6 different head coaches and at least twice that many starting quarterbacks.

    THE GLAZERS ARE THE PROBLEM.

  31. SteveK Says:

    Coach Arians,

Newsflash, brother: you continue to excuse poor QB play, but don’t hesitate to throw everyone else under the bus. Why can you be so blind to the truth?

I don’t care about the offense, bc ithe turnovers are too too much to overcome. It’s all just noise bc we don’t win. Fix it. And please stop
Saying QB is not the problem. It’s for damn sure not part of the solution.

funny how you didnt answer the question….lol…

the vikings were playing the broncos…lol..a team with 2 wins….thats why they didnt abandon the run….
