Jameis: “That Was A Really, Really Ugly Win”

Wins are wins and style points matter little, but they do matter more when you’re trying to turn around a losing program and a long-time losing culture.
How you play counts. It always will to the fans who live and breathe football year-round.
And that’s what the NFL and the Bucs want: fans who care about everything 24/7.
Joe already noted it was ugly NFL football by both teams on display for much of today’s Bucs win against the Cardinals. But it’s rare to hear Jameis Winston call any win “ugly.” And he did just that during his postgame news conference and even called it a “really, really ugly win.” And he called it ugly other times.
The Bucs had three bad turnovers (two for Jameis), so Joe suspects Jameis is putting a share of that ugly on himself.
Still, this ugly talk illustrates how potent the Bucs offense is. They racked up more than 450 yards of offense and 30 points, and still it’s being referred to as an ugly effort with offensive line breakdowns, pre-snap penalties, many negative runs and turnovers.
This Bucs offense could be so special if it could find a way to clean things up and get more aggressive at the line of scrimmage.

JW has now thrown ints in 7 opening drives of the game since 2015..
Before the game really gets going good.. no time to build up frustration throughout a grueling game.. fresh off the bench… 1st drive.. WoW!

I disagree with Joe’s assessment of offensive line breakdowns.
Dude there were 78 snaps. The are not all beautiful but there were many beautiful plays by this offensive line today. There was a lot of pocket time. There was great blocking down field on those screens.
How many offensive lines are clean through 78 plays in this passing NFL. None.
By the way, Leftwich play calling of the screens to the side Chandler Jones was full out rushing was beautiful. Good job by him.
P.S. The false start on Wells was not on one of the 5 main guys. Those 5 guys were on their game overall today.

This was a CLOSE game at home against a weak team with a rookie QB.
We could have very easily lost that game.
AGAIN…how many TD’s did JW leave out on the field…the overthrows to ME…Perriman and Logan could have all been TD’s or at minimum set either a TD or FG up. After five years I realize that JW will NEVER be able to throw with touch…Wilson really opened my eyes last week and watching a rookie set a record for passes without an INT rubbed my face in it.
We should have won that game by three TD’s!
Am I crying over the win…not really…just upset that we’re down to 7 games left to find out the “real” JW and we STILL ARE NOT SURE.

You do yourself NO favors mentioning three great players in the same sentence as JW. It’s like playing a game…which picture does not belong in this group of photos. That would be JW.
It’s not just the two ints…it’s the HORRID overthrows…he didn’t miss ME…Perriman and Logan by a little bit…how many times did we hear Spielman say and NFL QB has to make that throw.
JW has NO touch on anything over 10-15 although the best receiving duo in the league bail him out over and over again.

I love Jameis, but that doesn’t mean I’m blind to his failings.
A one game injury would be kind of nice, just so we can see RG4 give things a try.

It starts with a decent offensive line of which we do not have–Dotson=toast, Smith=inconsistent at best, jensen=damn lucky he was not called for unsportmanlike penalty again, Cappa=learning, Marpet=woe is me, I am a lowly Buccaneer.
This is why we must not keep Jameis because he is too expensive and we need to spend in FA on secondary and o-line.

One terrible team beat an even worse terrible team.
Bucs tried to give the Cards the game, but they wouldn’t take it.
Not really anything to get excited about. However, wins have been so scarce around here that we will take it and be happy about it.

I have no idea if seven INTs on the opening drive is correct or not, but let me help you with some simple math. Somehow you got to 73 – 7, but I presume you are counting five seasons at 16 games a year = 80 total games.
Jameis Winston has only played 65 games total, and started 63 games due to injury, suspension and benching. That would mean more than 11% of all JW3’s games started with an INT on the first drive.

Game analysis:
A couple of bad decisions where balls were picked but ran well when needing a play and found away to drive team to winning score.
Grade B. Would have been a A but for the 2 picks.

The “Real” Jameis is what you see every week-
300+ yards passing, 27 – 30 pts, 2-3 turnovers
Exciting to watch, but difficult to get wins with the turnovers.
The D needs to get 2-3 turnovers per game for team to have a chance to win.

That TD route was not-scripted, he read the defender playing inside and took a bee line for the corner pile on. Heads up play and thankfully Jameis saw him.

That was an awful game that neither team wanted to win. The Bucs were flat again and I guess its hard to be up when you have 6 losses half way through the season. As a fan, I’m really tired of watching a team that lacks effort. The players were not excited. They make so much damn money that they just don’t care much anymore. I blame the owners for not making them hungrier. All contracts should be on a graduated scale based on production. Watching guys go through the motions without emotion in football just sucks. Jameis was right. This was an ugly game.
