JPP: Sideline Blowup No Big Deal

November 10th, 2019

Freakout explained

In a relieved Bucs locker room after their win over the Cardinals today, Bucs OLB Jason Pierre-Paul was joking with defensive tackle Vita Vea and Vea too was smiling.

It wasn’t that way in the third quarter.

FOX cameras, photojournalists and fans near the Bucs’ bench all saw JPP meltdown on the sidelines. Part of it was directed at a coach, and some thought JPP and Vea were going to go after each other.

So Joe spoke with JPP after the game and asked him about the blowup. JPP admitted he did freak out but said in the long run, he and Vea were all good. It was just two guys who didn’t communicate with each other in a close, hard-fought game and their tempers flared due to their passion for a win.

JPP explained that in a way he is still going through training camp. So there are calls where he’s not quite on the same page as his teammates.

JPP said he thought a certain call was to be made defensively and Vea barked back that no, it was the wrong call.

Football etiquette says when in doubt, go with the senior member of the team, JPP said. Obviously, on the defensive line, JPP is the senior member. So JPP made a call that he admitted he learned later was wrong. But in the process, Vea never heard JPP.

“Aw man, it was just communication,” JPP said. “Me and Vea just had a miscommunication issue. … I should have used my voice more. I was calling his name and he didn’t say anything.”

Asked if this was a recurring issue between him and Vea or if there was lingering  discontent with Vea, JPP said, “That sh!t is over and done with.”

Now what Joe does not know is what play sparked the blowup. The time on the FOX tape (seen below) was late in the third quarter. On two plays that led to the defense getting off the field, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray threw two incompletions.

JPP claimed the issue was only over one play and both he and Vea were on the same page the rest of the game.

Super bowl March began this afternoon!!!!!

  2. VA Tom Says:

There was one play before that where Vea literally was just standing up with one guy occupied by him and the second guy that was going to block him running back toward Kyler and the pursuit. Looked real weird, like Vea was standing there and thought the play was over. But it wasn’t. Weird look

JPP is the real leader on this team.

  7. Petty Officer Buc Says:

I’m really interested in the JPP, Vita Vea relationship. I know JPP rides him hard but I feel it genuinely is out of love and wanting Vea to become a special player.

This is a young Bucs team. No matter the outcome of our season, next year they will wreck havoc. You can see snippets of big time play on the defense. Once it comes together, we’re talking serious playoffs. Look at the number of potential ints JWhitehead could’ve had this year. He’s a big time hitter. He’s gonna be a pro bowl safety in the foreseeable future. And, DWhite is barking up the tree, he’s gonna he a replicate of Ray Lewis. CDavis is on the rise n once JDean gets comfortable he’s gonna beast mode at 6’1 n 4.3 forty. BA n TBowles will make sure the secondary is competitive next year. Remember, our secondary is made up of rookies n second year players.

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

JPP wants out of Tampa. Otherwise, explain why his last year was dropped. The Bucs had no reason to drop it. It was not guaranteed. So that means JPP requested it.

It sucks, but the writing is on the wall. At least I got to see him in a Bucs uniform for 1 1/2 years.

So this off season, there is every chance that we could lose Barrett, Suh and JPP. Which will mean the defense made no lasting progress.

  12. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Bonzai

Given his age and agent I think Barrett is the most likely casualty.

JPP lives in Florida…is already wealthy and he may play for an affordable number if he believes he Bucs have turned the corner.

That’s even more true for Suh is very bright and is successful off the field as a talented businessman. He does not need the money or fame so if he likes this team he may stay.

  13. George Rauh Says:

I agree. That was a dumb move by our GM. We could of had JPP for 12.5 million in 2020. shame on all you guys that wanted to cut him.

  14. Buccfan37 Says:

JPP needs to lay off the criticism of Vea because his game isn’t so special.

  15. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Head that on more than one occasion – JPP has missed an assignment resulting in a big run. Rumblings about “somebody” selling out for sacks, and not sealing the edge.

    Hmmm

  16. LUVMYBUCS Says:

**Heard that on more than one occasion

I hope we get Healthy this week we’re gonna need everyone to beat the Aints !!!

  18. Buczilla Says:

Players getting pissed at each other is a good sign. Shows they care. We need less slugs like Vernon and more players that hate losing like JPP and Vea. It’s gonna take time to weed out the slugs but we should get there as long as the menace known as Jason Licht gets flung overboard.

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Buczilla

Agreed…watching the game yesterday and JPP’s rant, I thought to myself, I don’t know what he’s pissed about…I’m just glad he’s pissed about something.
