Marching To Head Of Class

November 10th, 2019

Among the best.

Yeah, we can sit here and nitpick what Bucs coaches have gotten wrong this year.

The secondary is the biggest swing-and-miss. No other area of the team has dragged down the season like they have.

One could argue coaches’ decisions of who to play and not to play — and not finding extra help in the offseason or at the trade deadline — has doomed this team.

The constant feeding of the ball to Peyton Barber, the usage of Dare Ogunbowale and the persistent targeting of Breshad Perriman and Scotty Miller are other irritants, but at the end of the day, the Bucs are scoring a lot of points.

One thing Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians not just nailed but hit it out of the park is moving Chris Godwin to slot. The third-year receiver is totally blowing up and has become one of the NFL’s best receivers this year. He’s on pace for 108 catches, 1,532 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Last week Albert Breer of theMMQB.com sent a questionnaire to all 32 general managers and got 15 to respond. One questions asked what player is not getting enough run.

Two general managers cited Godwin.

“He’s playing really well right now,” said one unnamed NFL suit to Breer. “He’s one of the best slots in the league.”

Last week Joe spoke with fellow Bucs receiver Mike Evans about Godwin. Peter King of NBC Sports even went so far as to type that Evans and Godwin were the best one-two punch in the NFL.

“Shout out to Peter,” Evans said with a smile.

But Joe got Evans to talk about how well Godwin is playing. A couple of years ago Evans told Joe that Godwin was certainly a No. 1 receiver. He’s showing that this season.

“We both work hard and we both have ability,” Evans said. “I think we go about it the right away. I think he is finally getting the credit he deserves.

“We are just hoping to build off of that and win some games. That’s what it is all about.”

Of course, Godwin doesn’t mind the notoriety and is sort of taken aback when compared to Evans. Two weeks ago, Godwin told Joe he rarely pulls up any website to check his stats but added he has family members freaking out when they see his name and numbers right up there with the best receivers in the game. Godwin said family will take a screenshot or a picture of the stats and text them to him.

Yeah, this season hasn’t turned out the way anyone hoped. But one bright spot is Arians putting Godwin at slot.

What a steal of a third-round pick by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

We could very easily finish the season top 5 in scoring, have 2 WR over 1200 yds and 10 TD, a RB with 1k yards….and a record of 6-10

When are they going to realize it always starts and finishes with D in the NFL – I dont care how many offensive gurus come and go, build a championship D and win championships…

  2. tkiv18 Says:

We’ve given up 30 points or more in 16 of our last 24 games. We’re not going to win many games (and we haven’t) getting into shootouts each and every week.

  3. George Rauh Says:

How much will it take to re-sign Godwin? Can the Bucs afford to? Would he take 12 to 15 million a year?

  4. BUC CHEEKS Says:

BEAST. LICHT had a horseshoe up his @$$ that he got him in the 3rd!!! I will never forget jumping around the house when we drafted him💪💪💪💪

  5. Mister Negative Nancy Says:

Mike Evans has made Manziel and now Winston look way better than they are. No knock on Goodwin, but having a threat like Evans to cover greatly helps the slot receiver too.

  6. tmaxcon Says:

Free Winston Godwin and Evans…parole them from Tampa they have suffered enough…. no hope in Tampa

  7. Kobe Faker Says:

“When do I get my annual Tampa bay participation award?

This game is the most important game of BA tenure as TB HC

The Narc in charge has been talking/BSing at the local Arizona radio stations that the Arizona owners, Kingsbury, Murray dont know what they are doing

    Bruce Almighty, What you got?

I wouldn’t lose If I were you at RJS in from of the little amount of fans left

    4.5 favorite

Going to be interesting who he throws under the golfcart after today’s game

    Arizona wins 34-21”

One bright spot. Eat some more humble pie Joe, you feed the negativity beast more than anyone covering the Bucs.

Cappa and Jones have made great strides this year. You completely wrote them off. You would have tried to replace them. Inexcusable as a journalist and/or fan.

Jensen is having a great season, Marpet is doing his usual.

Shaq came here to play with TB. Blowing up.

Vea is blossoming. Suh is disruptive. David is on fire.

But sure, keep your negative slant that this is the only good decision that’s been made.

Forgot about our kicker. Major improvement.

    Sport

don’t blame joe safe-spacer….. the bucs make their own negativity with piss poor decisions every week and embarrassing on field play… bucs have been embarrassing professional sports since little Joey learned how to read and write….

when you have owners like the glazers the negativity is just a foregone conclusion…. Losing to AZ today should be awesome. i can’t wait for the excuses

Have you guys heard from TMax lately? Since I tuned him out due to his incessant trolling, I haven’t seen or heard from him at all.

If you do hear from him before I do, please send him my best and that I hope he is working on reducing his troll ways so I can talk with him soon. Because until then, he’s invisible.

Low standard bucfan loves to use great while describing mediocrity. Considering Florida public school education or lack thereof I’ve decided to help out this morning

    great
    /ɡrāt/

    adjective
    1. of an extent, amount, or intensity considerably above the normal or average.

Nothing great about bucs or any player…. greatness is achieved over time not just a couple of decent plays that impresses desperate low standard bucfan

  13. BA FAN Says:

The GM for Arizona had a real deep cap and used it to obtain a boatload of good Free Agents so Tmax you just might get your wish but this also may be the day when our Defense turns the corner and gets more turnovers. They have done a job on some of the running QBs this year such as Charlotte’s starting QB. I expect our sackers JPP and Barret to come after their Rookie QB today which can generate good turnover capability and Jameis is ready for another good outing now that he is home. The weather is great today and this should be a close game for lots of our fans to enjoy so I hope they show up. Raise the Flags and Fire the Cannons!!!

  14. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Time to make Murray the NFC offensive player of the week. Nothing invites that award to be won more than the LOLicht secondary carefully put together with premium draft picks using second to none scouting.

  15. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Godwin nearly killed my Michigan Wolverines in a very important game, when he was at Penn State. I literally jumped for Joy, when we stole him, in the third round!
And, he can block too !

  16. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

A record of 6-10? And just where do you see the other 4 wins coming from?

  17. NPRSageBoy Says:

As far as Buccaneer player/personnel decisions go, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

For those uneducated JayMiss supporters, that means the Bucs Personnel staff operates on dumb luck.

    Peace, out.

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    joe

how about a poll on how will the bucs embarrass themselves and blow a lead today???? given the history it would easily be the most relevant poll posted in a long time.

you also need a weekly column written by rotating strippers “How will the bucs embarrass themselves today” it could be a segment comparing bucs embarrassing plays with old guy trying to make a move at the strip club without enough cash or …….

glazers are not attempting to field a winner so you might as well join the damn circus…..

  19. admin Says:

how about a poll on how will the bucs embarrass themselves and blow a lead today????

    LOL!

  20. TOM Says:

I like that, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

  21. SteveK Says:

    T-m-c!

    Lmao 😂

    Yes!!!

Can I play, the on how the Bucs will sh!t themselves today? Sad but true and that’s what’s funny. Great post!

  22. Figures Says:

Lmao Ndog is so illiterate he tries to defend the fact that his grammar is the level of a 6th grader by saying it’s because it’s a debate lol.

And yea I can defeat you in a debate but your blind loyalty doesn’t allow you to see anything other than “Winston best ever” “team bad”
    “Never Winston’s fault”

So yea slapping a little sense in you would probably help

  23. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

    Poll.

    Q. Who are the Bucs playing today?

    1. The Winners.
    2. The Winners.
    3. The winners.

  24. Allbuccedup Says:

Its time to tank for Burrow. While these receivers are young or trade up. This season is over.

  25. Buccfan37 Says:

Perfect weather for Vita Vea to strut his stuff today.

  26. Frankinthe813 Says:

Great 3rd round pick…now if only we can nail down that 2nd pick

  27. Brandon Jeff Says:

Hey Figures, I’m not defending any one particular poster on here because I’m
sure we all, at one time or another, have made a mistake with spelling or
grammar. If you are going to play the grammar/spelling cop, you should make sure you can spell the word “yeah” correctly. It is not spelled “yea”. Unless you
are using the biblical term. In which case you should consider the verse about removing the beam from your own eye before you go after the mote in
someone else’s. The posts on this site should be about content, not grammar.

  28. BA FAN Says:

So now we saw a good game in front of a lot of Buc’s Fans on a beautiful day and despite Jameis throwing three interceptions and Jones fumbling once we finally saw a glimmer of hope from our Defense as they got sacks and pressures and just as I said awhile back that with some NFL experience that Dean will become a starter in our Defense, you saw him emerge today as a good cover corner using his speed and length to knock down passes and even got a critical interception to help the Bucs get a critical win today. We also had at last honest referees today too. Just like BA has kept saying the Bucs had to learn how to win again and despite bad penalties by D. Smith and bone headed Perriman the Bucs fought hard to the very end and Jameis stayed focused this time despite his mistakes and overthrows and they pulled out a win. Sorry Tmax your prediction was dead wrong this time. We have turned a corner now.

  29. BA FAN Says:

However, note to BA, keep little WRs like 22 and especially Scotty riding the pine. They are too hard for Jameis to hit in stride and when he hit Scotty in the end zone he couldn’t catch a cold!
