Ndamukong Suh Addresses The Stat Sheets

October 27th, 2019

Flimsy stats

If Gerald McCoy was still with Tampa Bay and had half a sack, six solo tackles and just one quarterback hit through seven games, fans would be screaming their heads off that he’s a loser, overpaid and soft as Charmin.

Well, those are Ndamukong Suh’s stats through seven games.

Joe talked to Suh in the unhappy locker room after today’s loss.

Joe wanted Suh’s take on where his game is in relation to the Suh of year’s past. Joe asked Suh specifically to explain “what version” of Suh that Bucs fans getting in 2019.

Joe appreciated that Suh addressed his production — or lack thereof.

“Well, first, I think people got to make their own opinion, but personally, when I look at my play and look at my effects on the game, it’s not going to always show up in the stat sheets,” Suh said. “I think that’s been proven over the years. Obviously, an impact play is going to affect the quarterback and affect the run game, but one of the biggest things that I pride myself on is always being consistent week in and week out and being available, on top of making plays. You’re not always going to see it in the stat sheet, but you are going to see it in the stat sheet as well. I don’t say, ‘You’re not going to see it in the stat sheet’ as a cop out because I’m going to make plays. There’s no question about that. Simple as that.”

Suh is a good player, just like Joe believed McCoy was a good player.

But darn it, the Bucs need more out of Suh. He’s on pace for the worst stats of his career across the board.

As much as Joe has enjoyed watching Suh, he turns 33 in January and the smart play is to look to trade him immediately. If his film his good, he should bring back something from a team in the hunt.

With the season lost, Joe’s not sure the point of keeping Suh around. The Bucs have other bodies to mix it up inside.

Is MO has been coasting when then team has little else to play for… Can we count on him coasting from this point on?

  2. Lamarcus Says:

    They have different styles

GMC pass rushing Dt Suh is a run stomping Dt. Elevates the next man over ask Vea or Donald. GMC never did that or close a game like Suh did

VV too…he is a real treat to watch….I saw VV come into the frame late on a play way down field….like I said he is fun to watch…Suh is fine for another year if it is do able…
I hope #98 gets some more PT as the season goes…kid is a rookie with a MOTOR !

  7. Pa Privateer Says:

Suh has been a great addition to the interior line, I constantly see Suh pushing the pocket that helps either stop a running play or push the QB into another Buc. I see #93 far more often in the picture at the end of a play this year compared to #93 all previous years.

I think Suh and Vea perfectly compliment each other in this defense and I could give a rats A** about his stats.

  8. DooshLaRue Says:

    He’s still better than Gummie93

  9. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Bucs should trade suh to a contender & try an get a 2 for him; this season done

  10. Jean Lafitte Says:

McCoy had 16 solo tackles last season Suh had 32

  11. MadMax Says:

With Mcsofty, we dont have the number 1 defense against the run….we also dont have that w/o Suh!

Suh over Mcsofty all day every dmn day!

  12. Slugglife Says:

So we are talking stats again huh? Here’s a good stat- coming into the game we had the #1 rush defense against some of the elite NFL backs.

We’re still 2-5. Suh isn’t the problem. Write another article. And have a highlight reel of VH3 falling down anytime somebody bigger than hump comes his way.

Then we can address Suh stats.

  13. Slugglife Says:

VH3 could fill up an entire “c’mon man” segment.

Real ease his ass along with Perriman tomorrow. Get them an Uber xl.

  14. NPRSageBoy Says:

At this rate, JoeBucFan may want to sponsor a suicide hot line for the fan base.

  15. Slugglife Says:

We could call the Dolman group but VH3 has 10-12 slip and fall cases in the queue.

  16. DBS Says:

Last I heard the losing was all McCoy’s fault. Then it was coaching. All are gone. 2-5 season over again. Now what is the excuse?

  17. Ndog Says:

    Who cares we suck.

  18. D-Rome Says:

Yeah but Suh has “more dawg in him”, whatever the hell that means.

  19. Aaron Says:

Well Suh doesnt play against the Bucs so that has to equal a couple of sacks and tackles from his stats

  20. BA Redzone Says:

I have GOOD NEWS! No backup QB next week. Bucs have lost against Daniel Jones, Teddy Bridgewater, Kyle Allen and Ryan Tannehill.

We won vs Cam Newton and Jared Cook. Russell Wilson is next! So you’re telling me we have chance????

Guys………..Just face it we are never going anywhere with Jameis as our QB.
I have NEVER seen so many boneheaded throws sprinkled with a few brilliant ones trying to make you forget the rest.
STAUNCH JW3 supporter here that has finally had enough. Time to cut bait.

  23. Tampabuscsbro Says:

Joe do you have any rumblings possible things that may happen in the organization?

    at all?
This just seems like insanity at this point to keep kicking the can down the road.

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I, too, am done with Jameis…….it will be interesting to see how long BA sticks with him……toward the end of the season Griffin needs some snaps…

As far as Suh…..does anyone think our record would be any better with GMC?

Devin White made a game-winning tackle and caused a fumble….we were robbed on the call….too bad.

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ll just go ahead and flat out say it..What the hell right? We ain’t hittin nowhere close to any superbowl but thru our living room viewing some other team. Here I go….What did we gain by signing SUH? Huh? he will be gone next year to the highest NFl bidder. The guy is smart filling his retirement coffers. We should have kept GMC. Suh is surely..not that much better…So says the stats. That’s right..I SAID IT!!

  26. adam from ny Says:

i think jameis is actually done with jameis at this point (in tampa)…

so no worries…he will want out and to get a fresh start as well…

don’t feel bad for him…he made 20 mil this year, he’s set for life already…and probably made like double that over his 5 year career with endorsements, etc…

he’s probably soured out on tampa already too..you think it’s just the fans who have soured on him???…it works both ways…

he has nothing to worry about…he also has at least another 50 mil in nfl earnings coming his way…at least

  27. Ricky Says:

Joe you are losing it. No comparison with McCoy. Does it look like the same DL play to you?

  28. adam from ny Says:

the middle of our line is like a steel curtain…kong suh is a beast in there…wake up!

we used to get gashed to sheet with gmc manning the middle

  29. adam from ny Says:

by the way carl nassib is king of letting tackles slip thru his hands…for every one made, 2 are missed…just sayin…

    still love the dude…hard working…good player on the line…excellent work ethic…smart too…

i wish i could nickname him:

Carl “the bodysnatcher” Nassib…(once he grabs you, you’re done)

such is not the case tho

  30. ElioT Says:

    Suh isn’t even a problem.

He gets after it and has been a good influence on Vea.

Where’s the article on the worst GM in all of pro sports?

    Scared journalists in this town.

  31. ElioT Says:

and McCoy has two tackles in a 51–13 prison ra***g loss to the 49ers..
    13

  32. QBKilla Says:

Suh is much better against the run. Licht and Arians got it right when they let McCoy go.

  33. BucFan81 Says:

I don’t know why we are even talking about Suh. The defense did there job today for the most part. What do you expect when you keep turning the ball over and the defense has to be on the field most of the game in bad position. How about you do an article on Winston and how he continues to wet the bed yet the damn coach continues to blame everyone else. If I was Mike Evans I would be pissed off right now. Arians blames the WR for not running the routes right yet Mike Evans went off for 200 yards. Mike Evans saved Winston again today because it would be a hell of a lot worse if it was not for Evans production on the field. I mean he made Manziel look like a first round pick and he made Winston look decent for certain parts of the game. How many times did you see CB almost intercept even more passes. It is crazy to me that people are still defending Winston is everyone watching the same games…

  34. H8JWLveBucs Says:

Can we do a poll, what would the Bucs record be if we had a better QB?

  35. Aaron Says:

So our Head Coach says the INTs were not the QBs fault…and our expert panel of fans say he’s lying…it is the QBs fault.

    Got it!

  36. Ndog Says:

BucFan81 so those perfect throws that lead to two TDs and several others were bailing the QB out right? How about the perfect throw Evans dropped for a TD? Cause guess what just with that catch we would have been tied and a FG wins the game at the end. Jameis was not good today he was AWESOME and kept us in the game with zero running game and average oline play yet you people act like he sucked today. My goodness you are clueless.

  37. MadMax Says:

JW and OJ for NE’s first and second next year!!!

We’re in rebuild mode and need RIGHT NOW to use the value thats there before it gets worse! They’ll be in the playoffs again so it’ll be bottom of the rounds….but i’d do it and see if they would bite….i think Bill would say DEAL!

  38. Ndog Says:

Madmax of course he would cause he’s not an idiot, like all the morons on this site.

  39. 813bucboi Says:

  41. NPRSageBoy Says:

BA flat out said none of those INT were on JayMiss, so I guess it’s true ….

But, he also told the Glazers he was able to fix JayMiss with no problem….

Based upon what we’ve seen through 7 games it’s pretty obvious that BA is as full of $hit as a Christmas goose.

The only option seems to be to burn this MRSA infested franchise to the ground, fire everyone ( including any tradeable players) and start over.

I’m not aware of the Glazers being of the mind to sell, but that would be a bonus.

  42. 813bucboi Says:

  43. Defense Rules Says:

Wow, some of you supposed ‘Bucs fans’ make Jason Lichtsout look good. ‘The season’s over? ‘ Last I saw we still have 9 games to go. ‘FireSellNow’? Ya, that’ll solve everything, won’t it.

The reality IMO is that we literally have a handful of players on offense, as well as a couple on defense who are dragging down all the rest with their inconsistent play. We also have an extremely young Secondary with virtually no field leadership. And oh ya, we have an offensive coordinator who I wouldn’t let coach a high school team. Unfortunately I’m also beginning to think that we’ve got a head coach who’s out of touch with reality, and who for some unknown reason allows the same mistakes to keep recurring. ACCOUNTABILITY is a wonderful word, but it’s only a word UNLESS you actually hold folks ACCOUNTABLE. That’s not happening.

Today’s was a game that the Bucs SHOULD HAVE WON, just like the Giants’ game was one that we SHOULD HAVE WON. Those two losses, as a minimum, are on coaching. And coach, we’re now at SEVENTEEN TURNOVERS in just 7 games. That’s 2.5 TOs per game average. WE LEAD THE LEAGUE in that category. Teams don’t go very far by being the NFL leader in turnovers. STOP MAKING EXCUSES … take the necessary action as our HEAD COACH to FIX IT.

  44. Defense Rules Says:

And BucFan81, I don’t know why we’re even talking about Suh either. He’s doing his job and doing it very, very well. Or maybe y’all think that he’s had no hand in taking our defense from being #24 in rushing defense last year to being #1 this year. Newsflash: Ndamukong Suh is THE primary reason for our improvement. And do any of you REALLY think that Barrett would now have 10 sacks if it wasn’t for Suh & Vea in the middle of our DLine? Ya right.

  45. Ndog Says:

To be fair Defense Rules he can’t cut Perriman, Jensen, Godwin, Evans, Davis, White and D. Smith. And that’s the problem this week it was those guys who made mistakes. Last game it was Jameis, Evans, Wells, Hargraves and several others. The week before it was the entire secondary. And so on and so on …. My point is he can’t cut the entire team…

  46. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

At least Suh can maintain gap integrity in run defense.

  47. A Train Says:

I think Suh is one of the last things this team has to worry about.

In some type of order I would say the concerns are:

    GM (drafting talent)
    Secondary
    Offensive line
    QB
    Running back

  48. Jmarkbuc Says:

What exactly does Tom Moore get paid for?

  49. lambchop Says:

McCoy isn’t even a full time starter anymore. What the heck are we comparing exactly?

Suh is a major part of why we have the #1 rushing defense along with Livin La Vita Loca.

  50. Nick2 Says:

McCoy was soft plain and simple with two torn biceps the guy couldn’t stop the run up the middle. The offense has turned the ball over 8 times inside their own 36 yard line in the last two gaskets. I’m sorry but no defense can overcome that especially not one with mostly 1st or 2nd year starters. Defensive tackles in this defense take on blockers so linebackers can thrive. Suh is a big plus over soft as Charmin McCoy Joe get over the washer up has been. He knocked Saffold out of the game when was the last time McCoy did that to ANYONE??????

  51. James Walker Says:

A good defense holds their opponent to FG and not TD. Did anyone see the CB screaming for a timeout when Boyles called the wrong look on the first Titan TD?

  52. SB Says:

Today’s was a game that the Bucs SHOULD HAVE WON, just like the Giants’ game was one that we SHOULD HAVE WON. Those two losses, as a minimum, are on coaching. And coach, we’re now at SEVENTEEN TURNOVERS in just 7 games. That’s 2.5 TOs per game average. WE LEAD THE LEAGUE in that category. Teams don’t go very far by being the NFL leader in turnovers. FLIPPIN’ PREACH DR

  53. SB Says:

Look I am 7 and 0, well now 8 and 0 in my local money league. The guy I am playing against had Lamar Jackson and Mahomes from the beginning of the yr. He made a sweet trade to give Jackson away the day before Mahomes got hurt.
He picked up Tanehill yesterday just to troll me and Tanahill got 28 pts.
Point is … Pick up any QB playing the Bucs if you need one.
Not all on the D today though by any means. All and All they played with Heart.
Hard to give the opposing team a 14 point lead by to offensive turnovers in the first half.

  54. Defense Rules Says:

Ndog … “To be fair Defense Rules he can’t cut Perriman, Jensen, Godwin, Evans, Davis, White and D. Smith. And that’s the problem this week it was those guys who made mistakes.”

Fair point Ndog, and you’re right (well, except for Perriman; we COULD, and SHOULD, cut him, it’s just that he’d still cost us $4 mil). But it wasn’t just those guys who made costly mistakes. For instance, you didn’t include Jameis in that list (sorry, but he didn’t exactly play a flawless game yesterday … he was frazzled far too often). You didn’t include the other members of our OLine (that entire position group should be ashamed of themselves for that performance). You didn’t include Barber or Ogunbowale (both are very frustrating to watch, but a large part of that is the play-calls I’m sure). The list goes on … they all make costly mistakes. Actually, sometimes it seems like they take turns making mistakes so no one gets ‘burned out’.

Still, when your top receiver catches 11-of-12 balls for 198 receiving yards & catches 2 TDs you have to be doing something right. When your QB carries the ball 8 times for 53 yards off of broken plays, gets sacked 3 times, fumbles twice & is picked twice (very easily could’ve been more BTW), then you’re doing something wrong. Some of it is poor execution no question, but a very large part of it is coaching IMO … play design & play selection in various situations.

  55. LoveMeSomeBucs Says:

McCoy may be playing good this year, but his years in Tampa were mediocre at best so good riddance. And I don’t care if he went to a few pro bowls he was the best of the worst

  56. Allbuccedup Says:

I believe Suh is making Vea better. I still would see if I could move him today or tomorrow.

  57. Gman Says:

Fair enough…..but the run defense is much improved this year and a lot of that is because of Suh…..problem still remains that our secondary is a disaster and our LB can’t cover worth a darn

  58. Chacho Bucco Says:

Suh definitely isn’t the problem. If the Bucs could string together a couple wins and the fight is still there for suh, the Bucs could have one of the best front seven in football. Jameis had a fire to come in yesterday and turn the narrative around. The line did help excluding Jensen in the passing game but as the commentators were saying during the game in the rush game they were horrible. there was barely any push the whole game. It was like they were in pass pro on obvious rush plays. They need to incorporate more delays and play action since it isn’t working. I know there should be an end to the excuses at some point but it does seem like the team is truly f****** him over. I see a scenario where he could test free agency next year, go to the Vikings and immediately win a Super Bowl. At that point regardless of what happens next year the franchise would hit a new low. There are too many holes in vital positions on this team to succeed. Secondary too inexperienced. OLine is overpaid trash. Organization is just trash in philosophy. It would take a whole draft focused on OLine for things to turn around. If there are questions regarding picking up all OLine growing at the same time then draft picks should be used as capital to acquire experienced talent to balance it out. Fixing the OLine would fix the team. The following draft should be used to bolster skill positions (rb and qb) and defensive front seven and the Bucs would turn into competitors again.

  59. Go Bucs 72 Says:

Perhaps Suh should start wearing kimonos.
