Judgment Days For Jameis
October 27th, 2019
By any fair measurement for grading a starting veteran NFL quarterback, Jameis Winston has had seven exams this season and received three different grades.
In three games he got an A, excellent work against the Rams, Giants and in Carolina I.
In three games he failed significantly, (today in Tennessee, against the Niners at home and in Carolina II).
And in New Orleans, Jameis was meh. If you set a low bar, he was OK against the Saints. If you have a high bar, he was jittery and off his game, a little lucky to have two interceptions taken off the board for penalties away from the ball.
Regardless, through seven games, Jameis has a bad grade for the season. C-??
Surely, even his staunch defenders among Bucs fans expected a lot better in 2019.
America’s Quarterback is now 61 starts into his career an it remains unclear whether he has what it takes to be successful quarterback. Of course, growing legions of fans think he’s proven that he cannot cut it.
No, Joe doesn’t think the Jameis era ended today in Tennessee. He’ll get more games to discover consistency, but his time is just about up.
Team Glazer, Bucco Bruce Arians and Jason Licht already may be all-in on finding his replacement — while they keep their fingers and toes crossed that he can go on a run of solid and strong play we’ve yet to see.

Winston is DONE in Tampa. He is the main damn reason why we keep losing. If you can’t see that you are an idiot. He turns the ball over and puts the defense in bad spots which he did twice today. He may have a few good plays to keep you thinking he is worth a damn. Then he has even more bad plays and dumb decisions. Dude is garbage and we need to move on and find a real QB. Jameis is not completely to blame, there are several culprits. However, high level franchise quarterbacks do not turn the football over as much as he does. That is a fact. I expect the Bucs to sit pat unfortunately at the trade deadline because I don’t think this team is ready to admit that it is time to start acquiring assets.

There’s no doubt in my mind, that that freaking scrubb named Perriman made us loose that game from the freaking beggining. I understand that at that point in the game only a miracle could’ve saved us. I blame focking Leftwich. Ndog will continue to chirp that once Winston leaves Tampa he’s going to be some incredible QB. However, if you watch anything objectively, you realize he is incredibly flawed. He can’t read a defense. He takes stupid chances. He’s a fumbling machine. He has no pocket presence. He’s scared of competition. He throws interceptions at an alarming rate. He can’t beat the play clock a couple times a game.
The guy flat out stinks. Jay Miss is now a bottom 5 starting QB in this league. Can’t wait to hear what that walking heart attack Arians says about him in his presser.

Too inconsistent. I don’t like to judge immediately after a game, but I’m leaning toward trading Winston.
Don’t break up the defense. Keep OJ, Brate, Evans, Godwin, Marpet, Jenson, Cappa, and Jones. Rest could be put up for sale…if they start selling.

Im tired and 87: I don’t want to keep supporting trash it has been 5 years of him and his garbage. Not only that as a buc fan I am sick of losing I think we all are. We have not even been to the playoffs since 2007 let that sink in. It will be 2020 next year it is crazy that the suck has lasted this long. For most NFL teams, having a durable starting QB is a blessing. Not for Tampa who has a coach too stubborn to bench him for RG4 and Winston just won’t get dinged up enough to miss any snaps.
It’s a shame to actually be pushed to the point where thinking an injury to a player would be helpful. Only the Bucs!

This is a team that had to go out and get BLAINE GABBERT to be the backup because Winston can’t handle the pressure of having another QB behind him on the depth chart like Fitzpatrick.
The Titans didn’t care, so they went out and got a quality backup in Tannenhill and it’s paying off for them.
Jamies Winston is that chunky girl who needs all her friends to be fatter and more ugly than her to feel confident.

I’ve been a season ticket holder since 2013 and driving to the other coast for every game so I understand your pain but part of the issue is we all act like we know everything and run people out of town when in reality we should leave that judgement to the professionals. We should just support the team to the best of our ability even though it’s hard at times. We have to start thinking positive and get behind this team or the hard times will continue with the next guy you insert into this lineup. I saw a defense play great football today and our team still playing to lose. This team lacks confidence and we as fans need to instill faith in the team regardless who is on the field. Go Bucs!

Jameis was excellent today. Don’t take it from me go listen to the coach. Unlike Koetter, Arains will tell you the truth and the truth is I’m the QB is not the problem. Players running wrong routes, guys missing blocks, secondary blowing coverages, guys commiting penalities all over the place. Without Jameis, Evans and Godwin ( who caused a pick today) we would never be in any game. This team mentally just simply makes too many errors.

James played hard and tried to win. His wind up is not suited for today’s NFL. The ball was slapped out of his hand as he went to pass. James has a baseball wind up and that is where he can succeed, but not in the NFL.

No one disputes this. Problem is, if you take away the INTs and fumbles his decision making is poor more often than not. The O-Line gave him many clean pockets and he could not convert.
Regardless, this is a team loss. Jay-Miss didn’t help.

Plus the fact we should all be irked by the refs…I can’t believe nobody is complaining about that alone. It’s hard enough to win in this league but when the refs also screw you forget about it. The refs alone have cost us three wins this year. When you are talking about a game of inches this should not go under the radar. Come on fans get it together!

All Ii want to see next season is a mobile qb who can make quick decisions and has a high IQ when it comes to learning how to read defenses. I think the size of a quarterback is very overrated. Drew Brees and Russell Wilson are regular sized men who are amongst the best players in the NFL.
JW is not elite and never will be. The speed of the game is too much for him to handle to become an average quarterback. He is one of those guys that needs to go to another team and sit on the bench for 2 or 3 years and learn the game from an accomplished veteran quarterback. Like Aaron Rogers did from Favre, like Steve Young did from Montana. Too much responsibility was thrown at this young guy and he couldn’t handle it. What a waste of 5 years.

We need far more than one player…sign a journeyman or a QB in the fifth round. Until we build a better roster the QB does not matter.

49’ers: B- (two picks NOT on him … and have you seen how other QBs have looked against the 49’ers?)
Carolina: B+ (game-manager)
Giants: A+ (Superstar performance)
Rams: A+ (Superstar performance)
Saints: C (I don’t care that his “stats” were better than they were in the 49’ers game, watch the tape … he was better in the 49’ers game)
Panthers: C- (One pick and one fumble were on him … but the team still scored 26 and could have had 33 if Mike Evans didn’t drop a perfectly thrown 74 yard TD and that throw is part of JW’s evaluation, not just the end “incompletion” result that fans focus on like idiots)
Titans: B+ (300 passing yards, as many rushing yards in 8 carries as the 3 RBs had in 22 carries and neither INT or fumble was on him … he played very well)
Cumulative GPA: 3.1 = slightly above a “B”
HE’S GOING TO GET PAID BY TAMPA … OR ANOTHER TEAM … EITHER WAY, HE’S GOING TO GET PAID.

July Joe (or should I say Jameis1of1?) – please just stop. You tout QBR as the “king of comprehensive stats”, right? Your boy Jameis is is TWENTY-FIFTH in Raw QBR, TWENTY-FIRST in Total QBR. How in God’s good name can you assign him a slightly above a “B” grade when the numbers, the things you try to lord over anyone and everyone, do not back up your position? I’ll wait while you backtrack and try to point to “advanced metrics” or some other pile of dung to convince everyone else that the eye test and on-field results mean nothing…
Jameis is a backup QB in his next stop. And that’s fine, because it’s more in line with his skill set which is tailor made for that sort of low expectations, he’s-only-here-in-case-our-starter-gets-hurt position.
He’s done. And Arians is a snake oil salesman that once again proves the three ring circus that is the Bucs got duped again.

Just like the NFL, the QB will take on most of the blame for the teams failures and too much of the credit when the team struggles. He has a :I have to make a play” attitude because of the team built around him. I’m not saying he’s an elite QB but he’s better than we give him credit for. We have had a nonexistent running game most of his career and our OL play has been average at best. Our defense rarely holds leads or just flat out can’t stop any body over the past few years. The team needs time to learn HOW to win. Years of losing takes time to overcome. I still believe Jameis can lead us to a Super Bowl with right supporting cast.

Jameis is actually currently 26th, not 25th, in Raw QBR, which is even worse than you said – get your stats right – and 21st in Total QBR, but of course a large part of both ranks are the FOUR INTs that were not on him …
Regardless, you want some stats, ok … let’s just compare him with the $134,000,000 man, Jared Goff:
JAMEIS – GOFF
Raw QBR: 26th – 24th = GOFF
Total QBR: 21st – 25th = JAMEIS
Jameis bests Goff in the combined QBR … and both guys best Josh Allen, who is 5-2 through 7 games … why … because “teams” win games in the NFL!
Here’s some more “stats”:

Y/A: 9th – 15th = JAMEIS
AY/A: 21st – 19th = GOFF

The above ADVANCED METRICS were the ones Pro Football Focus Uses … below are the ones NEXTGEN NFL uses … and once again … Jameis Winston is ELITE in the advanced metrics this season!
CAY: 1st in the ENTIRE NFL !!!

AYD: 24th (Better than Mahomes)
+-: 21st (JW has historically been much higher but even this year he’s still better than Tom Brady, Carson Wentz, etc)
