Brate Future Tied To Jameis Winston?
October 23rd, 2019Will the Bucs pay Cameron Brate $6 million next season to be a very part-time tight end?
Brate has played about one third of the offensive snaps in 2019, and he has not played special teams.
That makes Brate a very expensive part-time tight end. He’s a nice luxury, but that luxury seems awfully wasteful on a losing football team.
So what should the Bucs do with Brate?
The easy answer is to deal him before next Tuesday’s league trade deadline. But without knowing what he would fetch in the market, Joe can’t go there.
What intrigues Joe about Brate is how his future might tie to Jameis Winston. If America’s Quarterback continues his inconsistent and overall subpar play, then what a gift hard-working Brate could be a for a rookie quarterback. Young QBs often are comforted by relying on tight ends, and if the Bucs don’t bring back Jameis, they’d have the cash to keep Brate around.
If Jameis returns next season, it’s highly unlikely it will have anything to do with Brate, so the Bucs could deal him in the offseason when Brate’s value might rise if he stays healthy.
In the meantime, Joe would like to see Brate used a little more often. Perhaps Bruce Arians really doesn’t think Brate is the same dangerous tight end of 2016 and 2017?

Brate can’t block get rid of him.

Isn’t Seattle actively shopping for a TE after Dissly’s injury? I love Brate as much as the next bucs fan, but if he’s not getting used enough to justify his salary, get something for him while there’s a chance.

We suck at allocating $$ and draft capital to producing talent that is utilized appropriately in the end.
It sucks that everything the commentators here pound the table for has been proven right over the years.. i.e.
TRENCH WARFARE IN THE DRAFT DIPSH!T. THAT”S HOW YOU BUILD A TEAM.
Prioritize elite front 7 / pass rush / pass protection then figure the rest out around it.
Instead we went the Gump route of:
-spend tons of raft capital on the secondary which is less expensive to cover in FA and harder to evaluate in the draft and spend very little draft capital on elite front 7 athletic freaks because they are easier to evaluate in the draft and cost more $$ in FA (wtf)
-spend high draft capital on RB/TE/WR or even ILB while ignoring the O-line and over paying for average players in FA, when a developed/drafted O-line can make QB+Skill players all a lot better than they are, or can destroy QB+Skill players potential by not giving them enough time or run lanes
-spend a 2nd rounder on a K, along with a 5th, and then sign a punter that will cost you a a future mid round compensatory pick. Hell you could probably package the capital spent on K/Punter and have gotten an elite player via trade lmao

If we can get a so called normal OL in the near future, , well I don´t think Brate need to be much of a blocker, also I think that is a more than proven reliable Tight end, who can catch and score……He will be a great TE with any kind of QB……. The only reason I can undestrand we part ways with Brate, is in the case we have a bad GM who has te get rid of good players because of cap hell situation…….Did I made myself clear???

Give me a break..Jameis made Brate and Humphries rich. This coaching staff cant afford to put Brate in the game because he can not block, and they have essentially turned Howard into a sixth O lineman. Instead of putting some quick passes and run more screens to slow down the rush. The prefer to run Barber into the back of players, and eventually in 3rd and long downs they decide to throw passes which lead either to interceptions or sacks.

Perhaps we throw in America’s Quarterback as a freebie. BOGO

Syl- We have a better blocking TE on the roster than Howard- If we are going to do this use Auclair or even put another backup tackle in that position and have him report his eligible number every play. Use the TE’s as the slot receivers. This is not that difficult, this is totally on the coaches. It is on the GM for never drafting big time guards or tackles. He still hasn’t traded for one in the last few years. Anyone who watches the games knows that DS76 is not a franchise LT. He is becoming a liability on that Left side in general. He is being pushed around on almost every pass play. I saw scherff might be on the block, trent williams. I would give them OJ howard and a second and 3rd this year for those 2. Everyone says Howard is a generational TE, no he is not. look at Brandon Engam, Irv Smith, Jimmy Graham, Travis Kelce, Will Dissley, shoot-Cameron Brate when he is healthy. He should have never been our pick, we didn’t need a luxury TE-we needed a RB and Dalvin Cook was that guy. In the second and 3rd rounds, we needed O-lineman. It is just crazy we re-upped Licht. The movie Major League keeps coming to mind and it is pissing me off.

What Mister Negative Nancy said.

We are going to need him for our rookie QB next year…
October 23rd, 2019 at 3:19 pm
Bruce Arians doesn’t seem to think any tight ends should be used for catching passes… Guess we ended up with yet another coach stuck in his own outdated ways of doing things. #ItsABucsLife

bye bye
GO BUCS!!!!!

So, let’s see…you want to get rid of Howard, and now, Brate. Ok, absolutely! Makes perfect sense. smh
October 23rd, 2019 at 6:43 pm
OJ Howard is great!
OJ Howard has mind Blowing POTENTIAL!
OK Howard will be a superstar
Nope. He hasn’t played that way. I don’t think he ever will.
Like so many with potential, he seems to lack the required passion.
Any of you think he should be an All Pro so far.
Brate has actually played at an all pro level.
Thats what counts.
I hoped that a 2 TE set would put Jameis in his comfort zone.
Nope, still really bad. Horrible half the time.
And now, we are playing a kid because of his potential, and sitting a guy who actually produces.
How do you stay at the bottom of your division- Year in and year out?
See above

Agree with Capt. Tim. Brate deserves better. If he’s targeted he’ll catch it. Just hasn’t gotten the chances. The OC coordinator obviously doesn’t know how to use him. SAD
October 23rd, 2019 at 10:44 pm
I can only remember Brate catching 2 or 3 passes thus far, same with Howard. Too few targets for whatever reason.

Brate, Dotson and pick(s) for Trent Williams … Williams would make the entire offense better.
