Fluke or peek into future?
Maybe this was a bit early, as Bucco Bruce Arians hinted?
When America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, went on a three-game tear earlier in the season, it caught Arians a bit by surprise.
Arians’ quarterbacks often take a half-season to fully absorb his offense, he has stated a couple of times since becoming head coch.
Then, after Jameis threw up on himself in the season-opener with two pick-sixes, Jameis began lighting things up. Nate Burleson of NFL Network even went so far as to say Jameis was playing truly great ball for a quarterback in the NFL.
Then, Jameis had a so-so game at New Orleans and followed that up by totally melting down in London.
Just before the New Orleans game, Arians remarked that Jameis may have been a bit ahead of the learning curve. And per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, there is evidence of veteran quarterbacks struggling to learn Arians’ offense.

Jameis’ history suggests after he has a horrible game, he turns things around pretty quickly. At least for a period of time.
So when the Bucs face the Titans in Nashville on Sunday, Jameis almost has to be lights out. When your team’s pass defense gives up 300 yards a game there is little to no margin for error.
Just think of when the Bucs traveled to Los Angeles and hung 55 on the Rams. That nearly wasn’t enough the defense was so pathetic.
As garbage as this pass defense is, Joe doesn’t know what some fans expect. Dan Marino would struggle to win if he had to put up 40 points a game to outscore his defense.
If this secondary isn’t fixed, if another cornerback is not obtained by the trade deadline a week from today, it may be the worst case of football malfeasance Joe has seen in some time.

In been 4 freaking years now the offense needs to put 35+ a game
Why would be fooled thinking Vh3 had improve because of training camp?
Who is our starting safety?
Why is Bunting and Dean on the bench? We can’t continue with Vh3. Hopefully Sunday he’ll be a backup nickel back

Needs to have better coaching, but the coordinating is still in question to me.
I hope this turns around , I’ve even been saying the same thing this year. But jameis needs to start showing he’s getting smarter. Stop staring down your receivers and start to look off coverage, read defenses and adjust plays and coverages, and get a dam mental clock on when to throw, run, or toss it away.
I understand he can put up 400 yds a game, and unfortunately he needs to with our defense. But he’s got the individual talent around him that’s a big reason for the production.
If he was smarter, he’d be sooooo much more effective.

Biggest problem with jameis which has and probably never will change is how streaky he is and how his ints come in bunches. He rarely ever throws just one… we get mad when they shut him down but history has shown he will throw more after his first

Please please don’t be fooled into thinking if he plays well for a few games at the end that he’s finally turning the corned. That would be a mistake and set us back again

We get it… JW is your idol or something.. the guy isn’t reliable, dependable, trustworthy or worth keeping around… reverts back to the same ole habit over and over… Young guys all over the league out playing him.. Guys about to enter the draft play better than him even though he has 5 year pro…
People say its so hard to find a good qb, but you don’t have one now so when are the Bucs suppose to start looking for one..
The Bucs future hope rests on moving on at qb… OR condone another 5 years of losing seasons!

10 year vet Carson Palmer rejuvenated his career by going 10-6 missing the playoffs and going 24TDs against 22INTs and 3/6 lost fumbles. More TOs than TDs! And a third place finish in the division. Carson turned that into a fat check the following season. Btw Carson also had a pro-bowl CB, pb DE and a hof wr.
Do you think Jameis Winston can turn 25 TOs and 24 TDs into a fat check next season? Oh btw, can he have a pb cb, de and wr too?
The Cards def gave up 30 or more ppg 4x all season. The Bucs have given up 30 or more ppg in 5 of 6 games.
In those 10 wins Carson got, he never had to score more than 25 points to win except 1 OT game that took 35 points to win. ONE game ONE that required 35 points to win. ONE!
Our def gives up 29 ppg which means EVERY GAME requires at least 30 ppg to win. But anyway I digress…..
25 TOs to 24 TDs = fat check = rejuvenated career.

It’s true. We need our QB to play better, because we aren’t good enough To overcome his bad play.
Our QB has lost us two games this year. 49rs and Panthers.
Our QB won 2 games (should have won us 3 games this year, the Giants game should have been a win, it wasn’t pass defense that failed us, it was discipline, two rushing touchdowns from The rookie QB)
The Saints game was just a classic butt whoopin in the trenches on both sides of the ball. They wanted it more than we did.
Joe don’t get your hopes up on an acquisition this year to help, your gonna be disappointed. Again…

Well at least now it’s a “so so” game in NO that he had. Actually, it was siimilar to the London game. The only difference is the penalties and drops saved his picks. The bad decision making and lack of SA was still there.

I’ve bin saying that it’s going to take more than 1 offseason to learn this new scheme on both sides of the ball. I’ve even used Palmer as my example. I know #3 has bin in the league for 5 years now an he still makes some really none headed mistakes but we need to give him time under the QB WHISPER honestly I’ve just ran out of patience. If anyone can turn JAYMIS around it’s Bruce. He just needs time to do so but hurry up lol

I just did the math and the Cardinals were 3-3 after six weeks. Carson stats were 7TDs, 11INTs, 13Scks, and 1Fum lost with an average rating of 68.6. For the first 8 weeks before their bye, the Cardinals were 4-4, and Carson was 9/14/23/1 with a average rating of 74.8. After the bye, the Cardinals went 6-2, and Carson went 14/8/18/2 with an average rating of 105.9.
If we compare Jameis’ stats through the first six weeks to Carson’s, we can see why Bruce said Jameis was ahead of the curve. Jameis currently sits at 12/10/25/1 with an average rating of 88.9.
If Jameis can learn to throw the ball away and stop taking sacks and the line can give him a few more seconds so he doesn’t start staring at the rush like in London, I believe Jameis might just be able to turn around.
And Joe, the article should have included these numbers. Carson’s exact numbers are irrelevant on so many levels here. The overall trend of Palmer’s first season in the offense vs. Jameis is noteworthy, but the hard numbers aren’t in Joe’s opinion.–Joe You used a quote talking about Carson’s struggles and then how he turned the corner so there may be hope for Jameis, but then show no stats or any validation to those claims. You just went on to complain about the defense. We know the pass defense is trash, but this article was about the possibility of Jameis turning it around and giving Buc fans hope.

How about not slamming a defender’s head to the ground after the play? How about not telling girls to sit down? How about not practically assaulting his coach? carson was a 2x PBer and had been to the playoffs in CINCY….
you trying to compare JW to CP is useless because CP had already established himself as a franchise QB….
he was drafted in 2003 and they made the playoffs while he was still under his rookie contract…..and the bengals were the laughing stock of the NFL back then….
JW hasnt proven he can be a franchise QB, point blank period….

joe i understand the argument on the pass defense but do you seriously think the pass defense is why jameis threw all those interceptions and fumbles? one hundred percent no. his turnovers kill us. my god his first pass was an interception. i was at the game and i can tell you it was horrific

The Bucs had a rookie QB in 2013 who had the same QB rating as Palmer, and a much better TD/INT ratio. Who knew?

Arians specifically said two of the three picks in the 49ers game were PERFECT PASSES and blamed the receivers. And, if you compare JW’s performance with Goff’s performance against the 49’ers, JW did not come close to “throwing up on himself”.
