Hungry for more Ronald Jones.
A former Bucs offensive lineman is starting to see what he called “special” moves from Bucs running back Ronald Jones, As a result, Jones should get more touches.
That’s basically the long and short of it from former Bucs guard Ian Beckles. The popular local sports radio personality took to his podcast “In the Trenches” to lobby for the second-year Bucs running back to be a fixture in the Bucs offense, not a part-time player.
“Ronald Jones on that touchdown run [in London against Carolina] for the first time showed me something special,” Beckles said. “He was special on that run. He made a guy miss in a small hole like that and you get four yards and a touchdown? That’s special. That’s what special running backs do.”
And while Beckles had high praise for Jones, Beckles was dumbfounded the Bucs only had 14 rushing attempts against Carolina in London. Beckles noted that with backups starting at right guard and right tackle, it begged for the offense to go run-heavy.
“That makes things so much easier,” Beckles said of the stress two backups create on an offense.
If Jones really has turned the corner as Beckles seemed to hint, then he needs the rock more. Besides, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, can’t throw a pick if he is handing the ball off, right?

Donovan Smith, Ali Marpet, and Ryan Jensen are paid in the top ten at their positions, yet we are not running Rojo behind them anywhere near as much as we should be. Why? I get that Rojo is a liability in pass blocking, but he doesn’t need to block if he’s running the ball! If those 3 o linemen are as good as some say they are, then we should be at least respectable running behind them even if the other team knows it’s coming.
I don’t know if Arians is the answer, but this poor dude needs a couple of years at least to fix our team. Licht is as much or more to blame as Jameis for the mess we are in and hopefully they will both be but a footnote in Buc’s history this time next year. So gosh damn frustrating. 😛

Rojo and Barber all got less snaps than Dare…..Let that sink in.Dont forget, Arians isnt even helping put together the game plans on offense, remember that he has given the keys to Byron.I dont give a damn how long someone has worked for you and if they are using YOUR PLAYBOOK. Ita a different person, different mindset and different playcalling.
Leftwich is the biggest probelm.with this team.The secondary will come around with Bowles.Byron needs to goThis will not improve for more than a one game flash here and there until he is gone. A blind squirrel will always find a nut

Rojo has to mentally buy into pass blocking or his play is going to remain limited. With RBs being devalued throughout the league, you would think it would be an easy sell to a guy that has every down potential and a big pay day sitting out there if he can become a full time starter. You’d think it would be his mission to prove himself in that one area so he can take over the position but he had “maturity’ issues last yr so who knows if or when the light will come on.

I’d love to see what happened if they put Vea on that oline for a run play with rojo getting the rock. I have a feeling he’d push the d line like he does the o line 🤷♂️

Bucs beat ourselves, over & over again. Our running game isn’t the best by any means, but it’s adequate to create some balance & get the job done. And especially if RoJo is toting the rock for the majority of the rushes.
We saw that in our 2 wins. Bucs had 31 rushes for 100 yds & 1 TD against the Panthers (1st game) versus 25 passes for 208 yds & 1 TD … that’s a 52.5% run-to-pass ratio (when the 3 sacks are included). Against the Rams we had 30 rushes for 88 yds & 2 TDs versus 41 passes for 385 yds & 4 TDs … that’s a 41% run-to-pass ratio (when the 2 sacks are included). Not nearly as high, but still up there.
The run-to-pass ratio was also up there in the Giants game (a game we SHOULD have won IMO). Bucs had 32 rushes for 144 yds & 0 TD in that game versus 37 passes for 380 yds & 3 TD. We had 43.8% run-to-pass ratio (when the 4 sacks are included).
But the Bucs, for some reason, minimized the run game in the Saints & 2nd Panthers games .. .and we LOST BOTH. Bucs had only 22 runs for 94 yds & 1 TD in the Saints game versus 33 passing attempts for 204 yds & 2 TDs (40% run-to-pass ratio when the 6 sacks are included). We had 14 rushes for 42 yds & 2 TDs against Carolina versus 61 pass attempts for 400yds & 1 TD (plus FIVE INTs). That’s an abysmal 18.7% run-to-pass ratio, which is bizarre. Panthers run defense is ranked #25 right now in terms of rushing yds allowed. Doesn’t make a lick of sense.
Agree with BucEmUp, our OC right now is our biggest problem on Offense. Matching a ‘newbie’ up against the likes of Sean Payton (Saints) or Norv Turner (Panthers) is downright unfair. We got outcoached … BIG TIME.

So the bye week is over, players return to practice tomorrow and Licht has done nothing to improve this roster. If no trades are made today it’s unlikely any will be made, guess Licht and BA are content with the roster……

If we put Rojo behind a Dallas Cowboy/New Orleans Saints caliber Oline he could easily lead the league in rushing…
It’s time to get back to Buc Ball…Pounding the rock and playing good defense…
I’d love to see us go back to back offensive linemen with our 1st 2 picks in next years draft…We haven’t taken an offensive lineman in the 1st round since Davin Joseph…It’s long over due Imho…

No Jameis can’t throw and INT if he is handing the ball off, but he can fumble it.
I agree that Jones is looking better and better. Would like to see him get a few more screen plays early in the game first 15 plays and again before first 25 plays. But wit as many three and outs we see or the “Famous” one play series, it does make it difficult to reach the second screen to Jones.
We all complain that our Defense is not holding up their side of the team. How easy is it when the first 15 minutes(1st quarter) the offense has two or three, three and outs or a one and out. Yeah if we could sustain drives and actually score on just a few of them we would solve several issues. We would not have our young defense out on the field minute after minute play after play, if we just sustained drives. By say hitting the open underneath players and allowing them to gain yards, not throw it up in the “general” area of our recivers and pray our receivers catches it or we get a flag. Running the ball successfuly would help to put us closer to a scoring opportunity and open up play action passes. But we can’t we do not have a grasp on how to sustain drives. Be it a missed catch or a missed open receiver or a turnover, or great play by the other team. We need to sustain drives to help our Defense. We can talk about who is responsible for the lack of ability to sustain drives, the oline, the rb, the te, the wr, the oc. Who is missing? Am I forgetting anyone? Oh yeah it is the DB, the lb, the s, the dline, or dc. Who on the defensive side of the ball has the ball in their hands on every snap? What? You don’t say. They don’t ever have their hands on the ball every snap? Why not? How else can the offense score if,….oh… yeah. Easy to blame the D and the young dbs, but how many drives do they sustain for our offense to have a chance to score? Yes they have their own issues stopping the other teams sustained drives. But this is a game that keeps score and we have seen our D score a few this season, we can’t expect them to score points and defend points and win. They need a few long sustained drives that score points. Sadly we now have a kicker who can hit it from 55 yards out consistently, so that means the offense does not need to gain as many yards and still score. We need better Offensive tactics and schemes, ones that allows a QB who is not so accurate, not so fast in his reads, and one who in year five still goes up to the line of scrimmage and has his eyes on the player he is going to throw to come hell or triple coverage. Can a OC change that? An OC who had his own demons with that very same issue. Here is to the next installment of the SHOW ME! don’t tell me. SHOW ME! Event in Nashville.

I for once agree with Beckles but joe you can’t run the ball wen you are down 14, 21 points. If we can keep the game close it take a lead running the ball is best. But playing from behind most teams don’t run the ball. We should be using rojo way more

ROJO needs to be the starter. He’s clearly the more talented back. If we have to get 3 yards, let Barber play the Mark Ingram role, and let rojo be our Kamara.
