Expect Neutered Offense
October 13th, 2019For folks who were starting to get excited by sightings today of tight ends O.J. Howard and Cam Brate going out for passes, don’t get used to it.
Former Bucs tight end John Gilmore, speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network, is of the mind that the current shape of the offensive line, with injured starters right guard Alex Cappa and right tackle Demar Dotson out, means it will rare to see tight ends going out for passes until they get healthy.
Gilmore explained he wasn’t a huge fan of the Bucs offensive line when healthy. With the current state of the offensive line after watching today’s results, Gilmore said the team has a major problem on their hands.
“We’re depleted on the right side of that line,” Gilmore said. “I just don’t think it is a good thing for success. You are going to see tight ends being taken out of route running and used in max protect. Your running backs will not get out on routes. The whole dynamic of this offense will be different.”
Joe is just going to write this and let it hang out there. If Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager doesn’t go out and acquire an offensive lineman (not some dude at a bus stop) and a cornerback, that tells Joe that Licht is just fine with how this currently awful team is constructed.
And if Licht is good with that, it tells Joe he’s preparing for the 2020 draft. Just like most Bucs fans do before Halloween nearly every fall through the past decade.

JW needs to be neutered.

It’s not a rebuild, it’s a reload!

JW needs to be neutered. Saw him last night at Platinum Lace

Bucs are doing exactly what the glazers want them to do…. you don’t have to win in Tampa the fan base enjoys losing and making excuses far more than winning they are definitely better at excuses than winning

The first pick to Evans was late on Jameis.
Not good enough.
Can’t do this for another contract.
Does Licht resign him though? Only if he hates Buc fans.
October 13th, 2019 at 2:03 pm
Howard played like sh*t today anyways. Dropping two easy first downs. It’s no wonder his season is going terribly.
October 13th, 2019 at 2:03 pm
O line is just where it begins with this team. Jameis isn’t good enough to handle the pressure of an incompetent half of an o line, much less when the ENTIRE o line gets manhandled like today.

The London Buccaneers!
The Glazers dream scenario.
That stadium is nicer than Ray Jay!
October 13th, 2019 at 2:06 pm
The OLine stinks, but we knew it would going into this season. Well, the ‘we’ doesn’t include the Bucs’ management & coaches apparently (but the rest of us knew). But Jameis is totally skittish right now. Forget progressions, his body & head are all over the place. Receivers aren’t helping to be sure (half of them shouldn’t even be on the team) but Winston’s accuracy was really bad today. And Byron’s game-plan & play-calling were ridiculous. When things go wrong, he has no clue how to recover. Just a BAD SHOW all-around.
October 13th, 2019 at 2:09 pm
Everyone wants a new QB however a rookie QB with the Oline we have is a recipe for disaster. If I recall correctly when BA was in Pittsburgh they wanted to run him out of town because of his long developing plays that used to get Big Ben tagged almost every play. If you think getting a Rookie QB is going to change this team it’s not.
They need to draft Olinemen, Rushers and DB’s (I hate to say it since we’ve spent so many on DBs in the last two drafts.) Let the Olinemen and rushers get a year under their belt then go get a rookie QB the next year. Otherwise we’ll continue with this trend.

The Glazers are terrible owners, who love to lose. And the league loves that the Glazers accept losing.

I’m out on winston. Plenty of teams are playing backup o lineman including a backup left tackle in carolina today. You cant be having games like that in year 5 and locking onto receivers. I defended him simply because I wanted to work, I dont care who the quarterback is as long as they have intelligence and awareness. Winston was scared and ran right into three sacks instead of standing tall in the pocket. He csnt even determine when it is best to throw it away after 5 years……he needs to sit the bench for like 2 years for it to sink in.
RG4 had no issues throwing seam routes to tight ends
October 13th, 2019 at 2:31 pm
I’m with pewter power……..Blaming backups is no good excuse. And it was not all on the backups either. Marpet was absolutely pathetic today.
The Crux of the matter is we didn’t look prepared and that ticks me off most of all.
And then in the second quarter we seemed to adjust and limit the pressure and Winston just up and coughs up the football two straight plays………The first thing you gotta look at when things go badly is leadership to step up and…….you know……..lead the way. Our QB let us down & you gotta question Bruce too. If we can’t lean of them 2 we really got no chance.
It really better be good after this bye cause today was disgusting.

I’d like to know what QB you think is going to come in and have any success behind this o-line?
Best case scenario you see a 10% reduction in turnovers, with the same end results (lots and lots of losing).
October 13th, 2019 at 2:57 pm
Has anyone ever thought that there’s a strong possibility that Jameis just simply don’t know how to throw the ball away to avoid a sack n or turnover. He seems confused about what to do when under duress. He is a deer in the headlight. After just about every post conference he says the same thing, “I just can’t turn the ball over” or “as the QB I’ve gotta play better n just throw the ball away n not take a sack”. Ive always been a Jameis fan but enough is enough. As the leader he gave the Panthers this game. U mean to tell me he didn’t learn anything from his first fumble that we recovered. No one is open, with pressure in your face, n in the red zone u don’t jeopardize the opportunity to put points on the board. He seemed confused during post conference. He is bringing this team down.

Plenty of QB’S could come in an do as poorly as Winston. And some might actually do way better.
October 13th, 2019 at 5:48 pm
It’s not neutered, it’s just the usual STUPID offensive play calling!
October 13th, 2019 at 8:16 pm
I’ve only been calling out the OL that Joe has defended for 3 years. To Joe saying it was the same tired lines from fans. Ok. Because games are won where? And yet, you want Jason to burn draft picks to trade for guys in the NFL. Proven guys? Yall trust JL to make any moves? Bucs should hire a new GM. And save the draft picks for that guy. I’m sure I could do a better job than JL. Bucs should give me a call. Save those draft picks for me.

Destroy and rebuild. Time to hit the reset button. And the Glazers should sell the team. #Tank4Tua

I know of 4 to 6 people who cover the Bucs that uttered words very similar to….
Draft a QB and this guy makes everyone else better. But what happened was….
October 14th, 2019 at 12:31 am
My Bucs killed me today. Five INT and two fumble turnovers. We had 485 yards to their 280 but lost. I guess turnovers do loss games. DOH! I am still ill.

Winston puts up unreal great games then turns out turds like today. I have no answer. But if he can put up great 12 out of 16 we are good. Can he do that? I hope so if we keep him.

Thats what I call blind faith, you get 4 great games a year out of him and the other 12 are splt between average, mediocre and horrible.

Sleepy, you are exactly right. The fact others can’t see this is just baffling. How many times did the announcers say the receiver never even turned around or got his head around. These plays take way too long and with no offensive line JW3 is throwing these timing routes and the receivers aren’t seeing the hot read. Jameis deserves blame, but not all of it.
Second, you cannot convince me that there isn’t something mentally wrong with Mike Evans. If he catches that TD that Jameis put right in his hands-it is a game changer. The analyst kept saying they need to fix Evans- he is slowing down on all his routes and barely missing these catches. That is not on JW3. Also the last INT- he didn’t even give any effort- that ball was meant for him to go rise up and he didn’t even jump. It was like he didn’t see the ball.
Third- get OJ Howard off the field- Cameron Brate is a better TE than him period. I’m soooo sick of hearing about his potential, he cannot catch a 5 yarder that hits him in both hands. His screen pass that he took 30 yards anyone of us could have done-he was untouched until the tackle. We may have all died after the hit but we could have gotten at least 25. Potential means nothing. Brate was one of the best TEs in the league before his injuries and the drafting of OJ- This is why is getting 7 mill a year. Dalvin Cook was the right pick in tat draft period. We did not need TE in that draft, end of story! Our Rbs this year are doing fine btw, but the play calling is stupidly predictable again.
