The eighth-ranked Panthers defense features four first-round draft picks patrolling their defensive line.
That’s 172 career sacks between Bruce Irvin, Mario Addison, Gerald McCoy, Dontari Poe and rookie Brian Burns (3.5).
What a rough matchup Sunday for the new starters on the right side of the Bucs’ offensive line, projected to be journeymen Earl Watford (guard) and Josh Wells (tackle). The O-line not only lost in the trenches to the Saints last Sunday, they lost Demar Dotson and Alex Cappa to injuries.
And yes, McCoy haters, No. 93 is part of a rather nasty-good Carolina defense, and he’s started every game. On his Buccaneers Radio show, Bucco Bruce Arians emphasized how well McCoy is playing, and then he told local media this week, “they’ve got a new leader in Gerald [McCoy].”
Forget the sad Bucs secondary for a moment, the O-line versus the Panthers’ front is the key to Sunday’s game against Carolina. Can the Bucs, with two reserves stop that front-7 from wrecking the game?
It’s smelling like the Bucs will need a heroic effort from Jameis Winston to make up for a meh running game and a pass defense seemingly allergic to coverage.

For sure. This is a bigger story line. I also saw Zach Bailey went down in practice so they’re going to promote an OL from the practice squad to dress for the game.

I’m not at all worried about this offensive line. To me this is a test to how legitimate this coaching staff is. Decent coaching staff do not fold when they gotta use backups. They have their backups prepared and ready to go.
If their backups are weak in certain areas they have gameplans that get adjusted to mask them weaknesses.
The Bucs run two practice fields and huge benefit of this is supposed to be having your backups well prepared when needed.
Losing a game because of backups(with some rare exceptions) is little more then a excuse for a front office that does not have a full roster of men prepared to play football……..We have saw plenty of Buc team I’ll prepared in similar situations. This team is expected to not be as feeble.

Sounds like BA trolling Geraldine lol. Joe’s are exaggerating again. Geraldine stat line for this year is literally 11 tackles and only 4 solo and 7 assists. This is going to have to be a ground and pound game. Everyone has a weakness we are not the only ones I believe they were down a lineman too when we played them.

How about Leftwich have some quick passes to minimize their pass rush instead of having JW in cement shoes until he’s sacked or fumbles. And while your at it, a pass or two to O.J. would help.

Jameis “ATM” Winston will be better in the WORLD SERIES as a Relief pitcher than an NFL Playoff QB. Every time short passes are designed or available it takes him 3 seconds to go threw his wind up……. meanwhile infielder style quick tosses and side are slings from Mahomes and DangeRuss Wilson….

And I’m not sure who they lost but I do know who the Bucs lost and one of them was our worst Lineman. So already the built in excuse for losing 2 OL is completely debunked. Love it.

Thanks Buccernutter, cause for HOPE. Bucs have a fairly decent DLine also. Joe’s making it sound like they’re defense is awesome, but it looks fairly average to me. They can be run on (giving up an average of 135 YPG rushing in the past 3 games) & in their last game against the Jags they gave up 358 passing yds. Looks to me like they won the last 3 games primarily because their defense created 7 turnovers total & the Panthers offense capitalized on them. Gee, sounds like our Rams game. Plus they beat 3 teams with a combined record of 6-8-1.
Bucs don’t need a ‘heroic effort’ from Jameis to win this game like Joe prophesies. What we do need is to manage a solid game & not commit turnovers. We need to win the turnover battle, win the TOP battle, control the Panthers’ running game. More than anything though, we NEED our OC to start creating game plans that do a better job of attacking our opponents’ weaknesses. In Sunday’s game that’ll mean using a LOT of runs & short passes to keep the Panthers off-balance & only throwing in a sprinkling of deep passes.
Jameis was 2-for-7 deep against SF, 3-for-9 deep against Carolina, 7-for-13 deep against the Giants, 2-for-4 deep against the Rams, and 2-for-6 deep against the Saints. That’s 16-for-39 deep success rate (41%), but half of those completions came against the weak Giants secondary. Take out that game and Jameis is only 9-for-26 (34%) success throwing deep. Sorry, but 1-out-of-3 is unacceptable. He’s had his best game when we mixed runs runs (30) with short passes (37) with a sprinkling (4) of deep passes against the Rams. Jameis hit 70% of his short passes in that game & 50% of his deep passes and we did quite well. Certainly kept the Rams off-balance as we racked up 55 points.

@DR- similar to what the Saints game plan was against us:
Solid mix of runs and quick short – intermediate throws, along with a few well placed deep shots and making good use of play action… (and throwing some damn balls to our tight ends)

Y do y’all not realize inside linemen r not about sacks they r there to stuff the run and get dbl or triple teamed to free up DEs and blitzers. It’s like “I’m playin cards with my brother’s kids or somethin” not a clue of how the game is played SMMFH 🤷♂️😂

Well joe we are going to find out. Saints made our starters look like rookies now we got some reserves in. Geez. Jamie’s needs to be ready to run lol. I would love to see us man handle the stinking panthers but idk how realistic that is.
