Finally Official! Ryan Smith Added To The Roster
October 5th, 2019Bucco Bruce Arians said multiple times this week that he’s fired up about the speed and skill cornerback Ryan Smith will bring to the Bucs’ coverage units on special teams.
Smith was suspended for the first four games of this season for performance enhancing drug use, and the Bucs finally made his return to the roster official today.
Man, those Bucs coverage teams can use Smith. Rookie Sean Murphy-Bunting has been looking a bit lost out there.

Ryan Smith played well in camp and showed a little something last season… I’m sure the commenters here are still going to sh*t on him for being thrown to the wolves by Mike Smith but you could say he was more proven than VH3 coming into this season.

Take the field and show me you’re the best we got back there…bring it RS…we need a pick-6 to go!!! GO BUCS !!!

Bunt cake is lost out there. Maybe he takes the leap next year like Rojo has. Smith is a big upgrade over him at this point, coming back at the right time.

I think Smith will surprise alot of people this season after he gets back in the swing of things.

I see Ryan Smith on the Josh Robinson career path. Good special teamer who will stick around for about 6 years because of his special teams play. If he somehow plays decent DB I’ll be surprised.

Harris waived for Smith’s return.

“Our DBs have to tackle as well as cover this week vs Kamara
Ryan Smith is a proven sure tackler
RS and DW are 2 key pieces to tighten our back end
Im trying to convince my Dad but I dont think its working
He had another nightmare visions last night”

I’ll be honest, I get the DBs mixed up like crazy. They’re all so new to the team that I can’t remember which draft/school they’re from.

You guys still have faith in this man? Really? He’s bigger and faster than Hargreaves but gets burned more.
He is a special teams ace, nothing more.
Myron Lewis 2.0, this dude ain’t a corner.

Some players respond better in certain systems than in other systems. Ryan Smith MAY very well be one of those, none of us know at this point. What I do know is that thus far this season we’ve had 3 CBs play the preponderance of the defensive snaps: Davis, VHIII, MJ Stewart. With Dean & Ryan Smith back in the fold now, it’ll be interesting to see who gets the snaps going forward. I wouldn’t count either Dean or Smith out if I were a betting man. Both looked pretty good in training camp working in TB’s system.

SMB needs extensive coaching and the fear of BA wrath–really major disappointment, make a play buddy that doesn’t result in a penalty or a opponent team touchdown

Hope the rest of the season is good to him. And us.

Smith is the #2 outside cover corner on the Bucs, which should allow VH3 to play more in the slot, so him coming back is going to be good for the Bucs D.

The same people giving up on Sean Murphy-Bunting are probably the same people who gave up on Ronde Barber in his rookie year. Not saying he’s going to be good or not, but it’s been FOUR GAMES.

Ronde came from a major university and he was drafted right where he should hane been.
SMLB came from a D3 directional upper peninsula extended high school. He was drafted at least 3 rounds too soon. He had never played in a big game or even in a big stadium. Never had a good coach or decent training.
They passed on a MVP CB from a national champion to get him.
They should have drafted OL at that spot.

m0J0 on target.
VH3 is our best slot CB
Ryan Smith > MJ Stewart
Moving Heargraves to the slot on nickle downs and bringing Smith in to play outside CB on those downs gives this secondary its best shot at success IMO.
We probably won’t see that this week – maybe not till after the bye… But I bet it happens at some point this year unless there are injuries or somesuch.
Bucs need to find out what they really have in Ryan Smith at some point this year. (along with reasonable projections on Dean and SMB of course) – because Hargreaves is as good as gone after this year – unless Vernon ups his coverage skills significantly enough over the next 12 games to be paid $10M next year…. which is unlikely IMO

Ghost,
The adjustment is freaking huge from central Michigan to the pros. He’s got the measurables to be where He is. In college he’s never been on the field with the type of recievers He’s now lining up opposite. His technique is raw as he relied on size and speed in college. VH3 is still technique wise, more like a college player than polished pro.
3 weeks ago the offensive line was a disaster and unfixable unless a massive deal was struck before opening day. There’s a lesson in there somewhere.
However, at the same time I’m saying that the drafting of DB’S is more than likely a chimp throwing darts at a draft board. It’s not difficult, get the players from LSU, FSU, Ohio State and Miami. Draft day is as easy as we need a DB,
Who is available from Ohio state and LSU? No one…ok…FSU or Miami..yes,
That’s the pick..
It’s simpler than the monkey , but less entertainment.

I agree with you in that I also wanted us to take an OL with our 2nd Rounder. Your theory on small school players doesn’t hold any weight, though. Our best O-Lineman is from Hobart.

I think this Defense is better suited to Ryan Smiths style.
He is a strong guy- and can Jamb receivers at the line.
An improvement over hargreaves. He is the weak link in the secondary.
Again.

Joe in Michigan,
Hold weight? Are you kidding!
My theory just did 2 spin classes and it actually added weight and brevity.
I agree with you on Marpet but I was specific in the position and the schools.
Defensive Backs. FSU, LSU, Miami and Ohio State. Damn my theory just keeps getting bigger and weights more than ever.
