Will Donovan Smith Respond On The Field?

October 3rd, 2019

Joe has had this Sunday’s game circled on the calendar at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters since March.

Rightfully so.

It’s not just because it’s a division rivalry game and a critical spot in the Bucs’ marathon road trip. A big intrigue for Joe is how Donovan Smith may choose to respond on the phony grass at the Super Dome in New Orleans.

Smith inked a fat contract this winter, one that placed him just behind the wealthiest left tackles in the NFL. It was damn impressive for a 25-year-old.

Some Bucs fans wept while others cheered the deal. But there was one thing Bucs fans could unite about when it came to the contract. And that would be Saints perennial Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Jordan responding to Smith’s deal with a Tweet clearly meant to humiliate and discredit Smith.

@aokafor57 😶🥴🙋🏽‍♂️ food solidified for another 3 yrs now come on back bruhhda https://t.co/8hXjOW4a1f

It was a quality pile of BS from Jordan, who hasn’t exactly owned the Bucs. Hardly.

Smith was asked about the comments at the time and shrugged it off as nothing more than noise. But Joe suspects Smith has a long memory.

Jordan plays on both sides the Saints’ defensive line, so he’s not always matched up with Smith. But those snaps will come and it could be fun to keep an eye on. Jordan has two sacks this season.

Through four games, Smith looks slightly-improved from last year. And as usual, he’s answered the bell. Sunday will be his 69th consecutive start.

Definitely thought donavan was going to check out after cashing in. I was wrong. Hopefully he owns that clown 🤡 this Sunday.

  2. Slugglife Says:

Post his comment on Smiths locker. Maybe it will get him to play to the whistle for a change.

  3. JimmyJack Says:

Donovan Smith is quietly having a real solid season.

I don’t think my bold prediction of him winning the phewtee for comback player of the year(RoJo easily) will happen but I will take good solid physical football as a consolation prize.

As far as Cam Jordon is concerned I couldn’t be less worried. Doubt Smith is. Will be fun to watch though and hopefully he gets a chance to plop on him……I mean trip and fall.

  4. Bucnjim Says:

Has he looked as good as the much improved big three road graders? No but I’m still hopeful. Starting to play physical but I’d like to see more. Play to the whistle Donovan and if your not sure if the whistle has blown take a look at your fellow guards and center.

  5. Bucnjim Says:

    Jimmy Jack,
Have you seen that commercial where it says just OK is not OK? That is how McCoy railroaded this organization into a second contract. I am still hoping Donovan Smith has at least enough pride and is not another lottery winner. You know what lottery winners say 90% of the time? I QUIT!

  6. Patrickbucs Says:

Play like you did last week and you will be fine DS

  7. Jeff Says:

Would love to see the Bucs bitch-slap the Saints in that crime ridden city.

  8. adam from ny Says:

true…cam jordan tried to punk him hardbody…time for the line to man up and b*tch him out in his own stadium…

don’t forget these teams have had their share of beefs…

    koetter vs payton…

    jameis and evans against lattimore…

    etc…

punk someone in the bayou and move into 1st place…

the saints ain’t all that – because the cowgirls are overrated

  9. adam from ny Says:

without drew brees the saints are just a shell of themselves

I agree exactly, but I’m not ready to concede I was wrong yet. Gotta see more

  11. Patrickbucs Says:

Not sure Adam, the ability of great teams is to adjust and they have done that well. Winning at Seattle and home against Dallas says they can play ugly ball with or without Drew. Drew was not all that his last 7-8 games, they are without question better with him though obviously.

I’ll be up there again to watch hopefully a win and a modest Winston pre-game speech this time:(

  12. Dapostman Says:

It’s all about keeping Kamara in check like McCaffrey, Barkley and Gurley.

  13. Patrickbucs Says:

    What he said

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

Adam afraid I have to agree with Patrick. N.O. sucked even with Brees two years of 7-9 until they improved their defense.

N.O. provides a great blueprint for us. Even with Brees they had two losing seasons until they straightened out their D.

And it’s not just Jordan an Lattimore…the Saints have a very good D and so they will be a great test to mark the REAL progress of our offense.

  15. DB55 Says:

    Hit’em like you hit Peters.

  16. BigMacAttack Says:

My question is who’s backing up Bridgewater? They may need him early. Bucs’ D line will be head hunting early and often. I expect another big day for the BigShaqAttack. Js

  17. ModHairKen Says:

Smith’s hit on Marcus Peters was badass.

  18. JimmyJack Says:

PatrickBucs well said. I’m not taking the Saints lightly. They are well coached and should give us a tough game.

A big reason they beat the Cowboys is cause they shut down Elliot. Dak Prescott becomes generic without a rushing game behind him. Don’t think they will gear up to stop the run on us since we have destroyed their secondary on many occasions without a rushing game.

I’m hoping this means green lanes for RoJo. They gotta know if Evans and Godwin have a field day they probably don’t got the fire power to keep up without Brees.

But ya know Bruce and Byron are gonna find a way to take some shots. If we can connect we could make quick work of the Saints…….Just have this defense and special teams prepared!! If they are playing catch-up you know Sean Payton will try and fool us with a trick play. Don’t let em get you.

  19. JimmyJack Says:

BigMacAttack…..Some dude named Tyson Hill is their backup. He’s the guy they’ve used as a gadget QB and WR and as a RB a few times. I think I even saw the guy tackling on STs against us once before too.

Not sure how good he is under center but the Saints seem to think highly of the guy.

The O-line is doing ok quit bitching cry baby joe not a bucs fan!

“They gotta know if Evans and Godwin have a field day they probably don’t got the fire power to keep up without Brees.”

    Bingo.

I’m a big Teddy Bridgewater fan from his days with Louisville. He put them on the map before Lamar Jackson.
Jackson the better runner…Teddy the better passer…BOTH with good all around games.

BUT….Teddy is not Drew Brees. And the major difference is what you suggest J.J.

With Brees under center the game is not over until it’s over…he can lead the Saints to large comebacks. He might have won for the Rams on Sunday…at least in his prime.

So I hope we use the same strategy as this past Sunday. Score early and often and then watch Teddy pulled out of his game.

    Easier said than done eh?

  22. JimmyJack Says:

Yeah St.Pete……I think it is much easier said then done. You gotta think Payton is shaking in his boots with our ariel attack & will be determined to not let us beat them over the top.

We might have to win our battles up front and get our running game cooking. We might have to grind out our points in this game…..I’m sure Bruce and Byron can find a few seams or something to hit some big plays but they might get be harder to come by this game.

Taysom hill. Lifelong Bucs fan, but let’s all wish he doesn’t step foot in the huddle. He will hurt us worse than Derek Anderson used too. That man can play and he is way better than Bridgewater

  24. BigHog Says:

Donovan must be a relentless roadgrader this week …like take pride in it because chances are he will be beat a couple of times in the passing game and that’s ok if we can consistently run the football with ROJO busting a couple of 20 yard runs off the left tackle side …that is how you keep That N.O. DEFENCE on its heels! A WIN SUNDAY AND THE SHIP HAS BEEN RIGHTED! BOW DOWN SAINTS…BUCS INVADING YOUR TOWN!! GO SUHY GO MT V GO FAMOUS GO ROADGRADERS!!!

The Saints staff is just so stupid that they haven’t been able to see it yet. [/s]

you damn right about tayson hill…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  28. Hodad Says:

Best way to slow Jordan down is to run right at him. We were to pass happy under Koetter. We need to lean on their D line by committing to the run Sunday. Body punches, followed by the head shots.

  29. bucnole Says:

Agree about Hill. The kid can play. That is why they try to find sooooo many creative ways to use him. I think I would be more scared if he was the starter.
But – I believe in this Def and Off scheme and players, feel good about us getting a win.
    GO BUCS!

  30. Brandon Says:

It was good to see Smith show some fire and put a shot through the earhole of Marcus Peters on the goalline. Smith hasn’t been bad this season, hopefully that fire we saw last Sunday comes out more this season… and not just on INT returns.

  31. SaintsTroll504 Says:

We hear you and we are not amused. Tampa Bay has been the NFC doormat for 20+ years. Good job of Bucs fans trying to speak relevance into existence. Prowl, Kill, Eat is the motto for the Saints Defense this season and there will be plenty of prey on Sunday…
