Bucs-Rams Make NFL History

If you thought watching today’s thrilling, exhausting 55-40 Bucs win over the Rams that it seemed like a lot of passes were completed, you weren’t wrong.
It seems the Bucs and Rams combined to set an NFL record.
Per Greg Auman of The Athletic, the teams combined for 73 completions, an NFL record, breaking a record set last year in a game between the Colts and Belicheats when 72 passes were completed.
So now America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, has both franchise records and now is part of an NFL record.
And yet so many wanted to run him off the team tonight. Weird.
Why can’t people see the light? Are folks just that blinded by misguided if not fictitious rage?

Not to rain on anybody’s parade, but Goff threw well over half the passes (45) and with the way the league is heading: Expect this record to be broken each year.

Heed caution to the wind… we could very well see disaster Jameis next week. I hope he plays efficient football but in 4 games hes already thrown 3 pick sixes… he is on pace for 12 pick sixes… could be preventable. Good player today though. I can actually stomach watching his press conference this week.

If Winston continues to perform weekly in games like this, Joes “needle” will be beaten so much he won’t be able to walk correctly. Haha
Don’t get me wrong, I have a love hate relation with Winston. Today I finally saw him comfortable in a pocket against a really good d line. Even after that pic he stepped up, marched down the field and made plays when needed. Now…. if after that pic he came back and went 3 and out and Tampa lost the game, I still think it would have been said “when it matters Winston can’t get it done.” In the past it was said Palmer took 6 -8 games to get this system and I hope after today Winston has it and will continue to March the team down the field when it’s a must. He had a hell of a game and I really hope this is that game that turns that corner in his career.

Even if Winston plays well moving forward in the season, we won’t win much more games if the defense continues to play like that.
I am not as worried about Winston as I am the defense (Secondary) and the kicker in pressure situations.

Jameis had a couple of throws I’m sure he wants back, the INT especially…but for the third week in a row he played very, very good football. Anyone bashing him after a game like today will never, ever be satisfied. Jameis left LA a winner and he looked the part of a #1 overall pick throughout much of the game.

Predictably, the “experts” lambasted the Rams defense instead of giving any props at all to the Bucs offense. Literally, 3 times on BSPN, it was said how the Rams defense was a travesty. Nothing at all about the meticulous play of JW or the great playcalling of up and comer Byron Leftwich. I don’t expect much in the way of kudos considering how bad this franchise has been the last several years, but it’s just facts I’m asking for. The facts are Shaq Barrett is incredible, the Bucs defense gave up too many points but they also has 4 turnovers including the game-sealer, Evans was beastly when it mattered again and Jameis was great. 3 weeks in a row for JW inching closer to that big payday.

Agree TBBB3. The defense while creating turnovers gave up huge plays and way too many points. I hold my breath on every kick. I expected for the 58 yarder to not even be close. Props to Gay for that strong leg but his accuracy is scary especially on xp’s

Quite a few…as bad as our secondary was, it could have been even worse.

I did read a story today that JW is on pass to tie a Bucs record of 50 sacks by a QB in a single season.

WTF are you talking about? We just won, Jameis played one of his best games and you are still whining like a little B@tch. The last 3 games Jameis has played well but you suckers are waiting for him to have a bad game Instead of enjoying a victory. What does that say about you? The funny thing is Jameis is not the only 1 throwing interceptions but he is the only get vilified for it. How many interceptions did Goff throw. How about Matt Ryan. Two good games in a row for Winston doesn’t erase all the bad one’s from his past, but I am encouraged. I’m all for resigning him if he stays consistently good for the most of our remaining games.

We have to be careful not to overreact here. This Rams team had a lot of issues today and I bet they wouldn’t have beaten very many other teams in the NFL had they played like that.
Winston has faced two bad defenses in a row, but to his credit, he played well against them! The offense has got to continue to improve incrementally, the kicker has to keep his consistency, and while the defense is doing great as far as splash plays, it needs to stop letting teams score in bunches!
There is a lot of work to be done, but Arians is a good coach–probably the best we’ve had in Tampa since Dungy.

This same Rams defense just last week held the Browns – who just put up 40 on the RAVENS today – to 13 points.
And Jameis Winston looked like an Air McNair throwback
If people are allowed to overreact when a young quarterback has a rough game before the age of 25 to the point of nearly running him out of town, then others are allowed to be even louder when he hangs 55 on the road against an undefeated NFC champ.

Yesterday’s game was a TEAM victory. Offense, defense, S/Ts ALL came through in the clutch. COMPLIMENTARY FOOTBALL at its finest IMO. Jameis’ lovers have reason to gloat right now … Good Jameis showed up & let everyone know why he was drafted #1 five years ago.
Game could’ve played out differently … BUT IT DIDN’T. Like jmarkbuc said, Goff missed number of wide open receivers. Boo hoo … and hallelujah. Our defense shut down the run again (only allowing 28 yds on 11 carries), which resulted in an excellent passing team rolling up a BUNCH of passing yds (490 yds) and 36 first downs on 81 total plays. Wow. And even though our offense had fewer plays (73), we won the TOP battle handily (over 5 mins more) because of our running game (30 attempts for 88 yds). BALANCE played a big role yesterday IMO. On to London & the Stinkin’ Panthers.

Welcome to the new NFL… until the Play Off when teams with old school power running game and defense that can stop the run rise to the top…of course they will still pass the ball plenty…but championship football has always been stopping the run and being able to run the ball

Buc_The_World, maybe it means that we have seen this show before. And the normal mo for Winston is a few good games followed by a disaster or two games, then a few more good games, rinse and repeat. So yeah after four seasons of that type of play from our QB we start to look for the other shoe to fall. Does this make these fans bad, no. Just rational. When the season is over and we Benjamin Franklin list this season and the potential future seasons. Then we can bask in the Jameis glory or gloom.
This was a great game. We took it to them every play. Smash after smash after smash. Even when the ghost penalties started showing up we still maintained our physicality and hit them everytime with more purpose. We are learning to overcome our weaknesses and building up our strengths. ROJO got robbed he should have had well over a hundred yards, but those pesky ghost penalties cut him out of that. He still had a great game. Both RB’s did. Next up the who dat club. That is what they will need to be asking alright who dat that done ran over me, beat on us play after play after play.
Keep up the strong showing.
This game Showed me promise, not everything went as planned. But we rose up and kept at it the whole game. Great way for a former player to make a statement against his old team. 93 looked like a large RB with his fumble return to the house.
Bask in the win until Tuesday, then catalog it and focus on the taints. And the next SHOW ME EVENT!

Agree @DR about missed opportunities by Ram’s QB. If those passes are on target Bucs probably take a loss. Do you think Brady, or Brees would miss those? I think not, so for once anyway, fortune smiled upon our intrepid Buccaneers. I’ll take it, but I won’t wager on it happening with any regularity. Beat up on the Saints and I’m all in. Til that happens my money stays in my wallet. Let me see some consistency and I spend like a drunken sailor on shore leave. Go Bucs!! Beat dem Aints!!!

Winston has played winning football 3 of the first 4 games this season. That’s better than Goff, Mayfield, Marcus, Wentz, Matt Ryan, etc. Even his bad game his coach said 2 of the 3 INTs weren’t on him. He’s been pretty consistent so far. Team should be 3-1 with a kicker.

Did any of you watch Brady yesterday? I think the point is Brady and Brees have benefited from having good to great teams and great coaching, their entire careers. That point/difference should not be understated.

Jimbuc apparently didn’t watch the Pats game Sunday. Brady was missing throws left and right. Like Bridgewater/Brees have a good team around them to compensate when they’re not playing their best. I thought Bucs fans would finally get it after watching Rogers struggle in ‘17/18 seasons. They still believe in ‘the green lantern Qb theory’.
