“They’re Not Terrible”

September 20th, 2019

Grades Bucs.

Forget the PFF Tribe, a long-time NFL sophist has a grade on the Bucs.

And that would be hot dog eating contest-protesting, mock draft-scowling, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionistMike Florio-arguingparrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal picture-takingvideo game-playingTaylor Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-training social activist Peter King of NBC Sports.

Earlier this week, King made his weekly appearance with the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo of SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio to discuss NFL happenings. There, Russo asked King of the three undefeated teams, Baltimore, Buffalo and San Francisco, which impressed him most.

King picked the team that won a slugfest with the Bucs to open the season.

“Probably the Niners,” King said. “Because they played two teams that aren’t great but they are not terrible, the Bucs and Bengals.

“They are ‘C-‘ teams.”

This is the top level of common perception of the Bucs around the league; Joe has yet to read or hear anyone consider the Bucs to be good. Many consider them bad. King’s below-average grade is generous compared to some.

For example, popular sports radio and television personality Adam Schein considers the Bucs hapless and demands the FCC ban America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, from the public’s airwaves. In fact, more than a few New York people believe Giants rookie Daniel Jones is starting on Sunday because facing the Bucs gives Jones the best chance to launch his career with a win.

Sadly, just like respect is earned, so is scorn. The Bucs have earned their reputation as a sad sack franchise. Only one way to stop that: Just win, baby.

This socialist doesn’t know football. Bucs are a C+ team and rising IMO.

  2. JP_09 Says:

This is the game where we will see the change in culture.
    Bucs 31-13!!!

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

muscle memory, Bucs have sucked for so long it’s going to take a post season appearance to change the perception.

  4. RawDog Says:

The Bucs could go 12-4 & every sports outlet would still say that the team is bad

  5. TheBucsAnthem Says:

That’s a fair assessment of the Bucs due to their history

    ………….it’ll change

    we just gotta win more

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Winning teams continue to improve every game, game after game it seems. No excuses, they just put their head down and continue to improve as the season unfolds. Losing teams, on the other hand, seem to fold like a cheap suit later in the season.

This Bucs’ team seems to be one that’ll continue to improve both offensively & defensively. Todd Bowles appears to be the key to keeping this defense playing at a high level & progressing … hallelujah. BA I think is the key to this offense improving. It’s definitely underperforming, and it won’t take long for him to crack the whip IMO. IF we can just keep injuries manageable, this team can do some damage.

  7. Mr. Lucky Says:

A football team is what their record says they are.

Right now the Bucs are 1-1 and yeah C- fits them.

In order to gain respect just do one thing: WIN

  8. Mr. Lucky Says:

    @RawDog

If the Bucs go 12-4 there is something REALLY wrong, like parallel Universe wrong!

  9. Sport Says:

There were quite a few pundits over the last few.years picking us to shine. They got burnt. Just like us fans. Show me, Don’t tell me.

Offense – we have a different style now, its more physical. We can actually run the ball. Don’t fall into the stats trap, our run game is effective. We are plodding for first downs. Its demoralizing to a defense.
JW – protect the ball and we’ll be fine.
TBBF said it best yesterday JW is the weapon, the rest are targets, and he needs to hit them.

Defense- the results are there. Damn fun to watch!

    In BA I Trust!

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    A C- is a fair assessment…….a win will get us a C+…..a loss will get us a D.

We have to earn our grade.

  11. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

backhanded complement …reality or wishful thinking ?….I still remember that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach watching the NYG OLmen warming up in front of me in the south EZ last play off appearance and realizing the NYG guys looked really really determined…it was the dirt on the coffin of the SB glory years

  12. Rayjay1122 Says:

This is a statement game for us. We need to show killer instinct and put a hurting on a team that we should beat.

Then take a 2-1 record on the road and beat an over rated Rams team.

  13. Buc4evr Says:

That’s why the game is played. Don’t really care what anyone in the national media says. The Bucs need to ignore the media completely and start winning.

  14. miken Says:

this team is what they have been for the last 4years… average. Some talent and some holes. Good coaching and good qb play would make them a playoff contender and poor coaching and/ or poor qb play makes them in the running for a top 5 pick.

  15. 813bucboi Says:

    BUCS-28
    giants-10

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  16. orlbucfan Says:

Can’t stand Peter King nor Cris Collingsworth. The latter is the worse of the pair. He’s always looked down on the Bucs even though he graduated from Astronaut HS in Merritt Island, and was a star with the Gators. I watched him the year the Bucs went to the SB. His face said it all: He looked like he was forced to eat something that poisoned him. I enjoyed laughing at him. I would love to see a repeat this season. 🙂

  17. 74 Bucs fan Says:

Totally off topic – but what the hell were the Titans doing last night??? They had the ball with 2 minutes left roughly down 20-7 with no timeouts – and they threw 5 yard pass after 5 yard pass in the middle of the field until there was 5 seconds left on the clock – then throw a crap hailmary. WTF was that???

  18. miken Says:

@orlbucfan….”he always looked down on the bucs” lol , imagine that. He looked down on us… a historically bad and poorly run franchise.

  19. Dewey Selmon Says:

74, The Jags bd’s locked down the out WR’s. Mariota was forced to work the inside of the field but the time and score the safeties were playing prevent. That’s the main reasin they singed Hump. MM doesn’t push the ball down field so he has Hump as a safety blanket. Hump prolly wishin he had gone to NE.

  20. eoschwartz Says:

Bucs have been cellar dwellers for a decade. Start competing for a playoff spot in Nov/Dec and they’ll get respect

  21. JimmyJack Says:

I do not expect any national media’s to consider us good. That will happen if we can reel off 3 more wins in a row and get to 4-1. Beat the Rams and Saints in their own homes and that will get em talking…….If we can’t do that we will still be an afterthought…….With 11 remaining games left to proove our worth.

Until then we need to handle our business against the Giants at home. A win gets us little respect. Respect has gotta be earned the hard way when you are the reigning back to back to back to back ect. NFC South basement owners.

  22. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Dewey – understand that, but they simply quit by doing so. For crying out loud, at least challenge the corners and try to win – right?! That was very weak. If we would have done that, fans would have flipped out. Straight up quit!

  23. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

And agree that Hump is probably sitting with sore ribs today from check down Mariota and that weak play calling. Poor guy!

  24. Cobraboy Says:

Kicking Giant ass will change perceptions.

  25. Locked In Says:

Where’s REALIST!!!!!!!!!!!!! the sheep want to know.

  26. Tony LA Says:

    Hey @AdamLakersCarolla,

Peter King has forgotten more football than the accumulation of everything you have ever learned multiplied by a 100.

When you use his political leanings as reasoning for his lack of football knowledge, all you are doing is highlighting how little you know yourself.

And, please, everyone who throws the term socialist around like an insult – actually spend 2 minutes to learn what it even means first.
I’m just doing my small part to stop the spread of the ignorant virus. Very contagious.

  27. #1bucsfan Says:

Yes we have earned every bit of criticism, disrespect and jokes about our franchise but now we have a chance to stop the bleeding an hopefully correct this horrible state the franchise has bin in since chucky. Time to get it bucs #endthedrought

  28. Pittsshore Says:

It’s time for me to eat crow. The lasted BFL QB rankings just came out today. JW has moved up one spot. He went from 24 to 23. There is still hope

  29. Buc Raybolt Says:

The respect will come with wins. Almost no one in the national media pays attention to the Bucs outside of the score and stat lines. When Brees went down, BSPN gave them a 71% chance of beating the Bucs without him. I’m hoping the team makes all the pundits eat crow.

  30. Simeon97 Says:

Bucs have a record of making rookie qbs look like all pros in their prime, hopefully that changes. I expect a sloppy win that is much closer than we all hope.

  31. Wesley Says:

We better be better than the bengals.

  32. BigMacAttack Says:

So in 8 quarters of play, I believe Todd Bowles’ defense has given up 1 TD. I agree in part that the offense has earned a C-. The defense gets an A- in my book because they can and will get better. Average team grade is a B-.

  33. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Peter, you need to tip that plastic cup just a little bit more. Come on man! Your daughter went to Colgate. You should know that by now!

  34. Eric Says:

    I’ll take a c-.

Just like in my college days.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

Peter King is a fake news d-bag.

  36. Ndog Says:

It’s time for us all to celebrate. The lastest clueless fan rankings just came out today. Pittsshore has maintained his place at the top of the list! Congrats Pittsshore you finally are winning…..!!!!!!

  37. Ndog Says:

But don’t get lazy Pittsshore BucsBandit is closing in on you fast.

  38. Buczilla Says:

I have nothing nice to say about King but his grade for the Buc’s offense is about right. The defense deserves at least a B though in my opinion. Adam Schein looks like he escaped from the cover of Mad Magazine and I can’t take his opinions seriously after he spat on our entire team because of the hard on he has for Jameis.

  39. EA Says:

These grades and power rankings go on a week to week basis, bspn had us the second worse team in the league after week one, they went as far as saying that we will have the second pick in the draft, I’m sure the perception changed after week 2. Some experts thought New England and Tom Brady were done in mid-season a couple of years ago.

  40. Pittsshore Says:

But wait NDog there’s more. Marcus M is three spots ahead of JW. I guess we did make the wrong pick. Can Marcus use the excuse of a bad OLine like your Bozo clown car driving arse did with your butt buddy JW?

  41. Bucy Says:

Does anyone else ever feel like the bucs hardly get any press at all? Let alone good press, besides here and when Fitz wore djax shirt bucs media coverage at national level is almost non existent.
