Report: Torn Ligament & Six Weeks Out For Drew Brees

Joe’s not one to celebrate a legendary player’s injury, but a report just after 11 a.m. from the Associated Press this morning is one that should put every Bucs fan on the edge of his or her seat.
Drew Brees injured his throwing hand early in yesterday’s game against the Rams and, per the report, he has elected to have surgery and could miss six games. The Bucs are scheduled to head to New Orleans for a Week 5 clash with the Saints.
No Brees? That’s a game-changer on the Bucs schedule.
No Andrew Luck? Cam Newton falling apart and the Bucs getting the Panthers again in Week 6? The Bucs’ defense playing well without Devin White?
Joe’s starting to think the football gods have elected a new leader.
Yes, Saints backup QB Teddy Bridgewater is not a guy to shrug off. There’s a reason the Dolphins didn’t sign him after he visited there this offseason. He wasn’t special yesterday, but that was a very tough spot to jump into. Regardless, Joe likes the Bucs’ path to their Week 7 bye week right now.

@Joe … “The Bucs’ defense playing well without Devin White?” Cheap shot Joe. And especially since he was injured in the last game and sick in the first game. How exactly is that even remotely a shot of any kind, especially a cheap one? Did anyone expect the Bucs defense to play well this season without Devin White making a major impact? –Joe
BTW, they’re also playing well without your favorite DE, JPP. Hmmm, no mention of that I see. One mark of a champion IMO is that they don’t fold like a cheap suit when one player goes down (I think they call it DEPTH). Kudos to Kevin Minter for stepping in and doing an excellent job. That’s what it takes to be a winner. But then again, that’s what we should expect from 2nd Round picks. And thankfully Devin White isn’t afraid of competition. Not directing that towards anyone in particular of course.

The Dolphins actually did want to sign him to be their starter (or at the very least compete for the starting job). They didn’t sign him because Teddy wanted to stay in NO. Miami offered him a chance to start and a lot more $ than New Orleans did. Teddy just didn’t want to go there and wanted to see how things played out in NO and see what came to fruition after this year, or see if a better opportunity presented itself. Miami not signing him was not their decision or choice. So your last paragraph doesn’t really fit.

Don’t sleep on Bridgewater, he can throw the ball okay.
We need to handle Kamara and Thomas, regardless of who is playing QB.

Please guys..stop the “we used to make so and so look like whomever”. That is history. There is a new D sheriff in town…and new energy and commitment on this D. The past is history. I like what I’m seeing. The only drawback is the youth of the D in the backend…but that will get better from week to week as they transform from rookies in a new system to proven vets.

Giants (home) — Anyone who bothers to check this web site is likely predicting a win.
Rams (away) — Probably not a win.
Saints (away) — Definitely a pick ’em at this point.
Panthers (home) — Depends which Cam Newton shows up but definitely winnable.

Bruce Arians has a clear path to winning his THIRD Coach of the Year Award on his 3rd different team … Cam Newton looks washed, Matt Ryan is an interception machine with Dirk Koetter, and Brees could miss 5+ games … it’s time for Arians to work his magic and cement his HALL OF FAME resume this year!

July Joe … Cement his HOF resume this year? Uhhh, we’re TWO games into the season, we’re batting .500 thus far, and we’ve got a very tough schedule ahead. And IMO the only reason we’re even .500 is because our DEFENSE is playing excellent ball. BA didn’t get the nickname ‘QB WHISPERER’ for nothing. He needs to get this offense humming before folks start talking Super Bowl and Hall of Fame. Might even need to become the ‘QB SHOUTER’ to make that happen.

That said, this ‘to be the best you have to beat the best’ stuff is complete bull. We have a team learning a new defense and a new offense, and they likely won’t get it all down until around midseason.
The easier the games right now, the better.
So far as backups, we got beat by them when we had a bad defense. That isn’t thecase any longer.

^ If Bruce Arians wins his THIRD NFL COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD with his THIRD NFL TEAM, that, coupled with his 2 Super Bowl Rings as an assistant and his dedication to diversity and the like, will be enough to get him enshrined in Canton I think.
To win the NFL COY this year he’ll need to win the division, but that’s do-able with Newton washed, Ryan throwing picks like crazy and Brees hurt.

The Saints are okay as Brees will be back this year and has just one year left on his contract.
The Steelers are SCREWED though as Ben’s done for the year and his career is likely over, yet they owe him mega money all the way through 2021 … if I’m the Steelers, I’m TANKING FOR TREVOR next year, though a bunch of teams probably will do the same.

I’m pretty sure the reason TB isn’t with the Dolphins is because he could smell the stink from their trashfire organization a mile away and felt he’d be better off on a significantly better team as a back up with the Saints. As for Brees being injured this is a golden opportunity for us. If we beat the Giants (we have no excuse not to) we are set up nicely for our long road trip.

They need to put Devin White on the bench and learn for at least half the season and let Minter take over. He was great in TC and PS and had a hell of a game against Carolina. Cannot have the rookie White wearing the green dot. He might be a great leader, but it’s big boy football now and he’s been invisible on tackles.

Surgery sucks. Ligaments don’t fully heal in six weeks. It’s his throwing hand and grip strength is everything. Brees will be out more than 6 weeks guaranteed. And are they really going to chance a barely healed throwing hand to the Legend? I don’t think so. 10-12 weeks, possible I.R. and depending on the outcome to a 40 year old QB it may be the end. But Brees is tough and determined but Father Time rarely loses a battle.

Drew Brees is a classy guy, but how old is he now? 40? He’s got more than plenty of coin, won awards (much deserved), SB (much deserved), will be a HOFamer–earned. So why is he still playing? Football is a rough game, and it is a young guy’s game.

Don’t mean nothin as far as our Bucs are concerned. You know our history. We been beat badly and have helped the leagues backup QB’s get new contracts by them beating us. Don’t think Bridgewater cannot beat us. He can and will if the Bucs don’t bring in. Anybody remember that Carolina backup who beat us repeatedly and looked like all world? Play hard Bucs! Brees will be back on the scene in no time soon.
