Now this is why Joe likes NextGen stats: They are enlightening and there is no room for fudging or “adjusted” gibberish.
NextGen stats are different stats that come straight from sensors on players equipment. Bucs fans at training camp practices might have seen players take off their gear and noticed them wearing vests, those are loaded with sensors for both sports science and overall tracking. It’s sort of similar to how players are tracked in games with radio frequency tags on shoulder pads.
These sensors simply download (or upload) the data into software packages and, voila! You have the bare, raw numbers.
NextGen stats are managed by the NFL. New data showed the top five receivers in percentage of overall targets (minimum of 100) coming in the end zone since 2016.
And who is No. 5 on the list? That would be Bucs receiver Chris Godwin.
Interesting to Joe is a lot of Bucs fans worried that losing Adam Humphries, a favorite target of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, would hurt Jameis. Joe doesn’t disagree. But it isn’t as if Jameis doesn’t target other receivers.

NextGen stats do not lie. Though this is his first season as a full-time starter, it is clear in the money end of the field, Jameis likes to throw to Godwin, who had the Bucs’ lone touchdown catch in Week. 1.

It isn’t as if Jameis doesn’t target other receivers? True statement Joe, but Jameis does have a tendency to look for and lock on to certain receivers, sometimes to the detriment of the team. If for one think that Jameis DOES miss Humphries, a bunch. He needs that ‘safety valve’ to keep drives alive because Bucs get into so many 3rd-and-longs it seems. Kinda doubt at this point that Bobo or Scotty will be the answer, since neither appears to have that ‘toughness’ & ‘nose for finding the open space’ that made Adam unique IMO.
It seems that Byron is trying to use the backs in that role (safety valve), but I wasn’t too impressed with that on Sunday. Our 3 backs were 7-for-10 in the passing game for a grand total of 63 yards, with one of those catches going for 18 yds (RoJo). So in 9 other attempts we gained 45 yds total … meh. Humphries averaged more than that (52 yds) each game last season all by himself in just over 6 targets per game. Jameis misses Hump.

DJax was open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Djax does not get “redzone” targets as he catches and scores from 3o or more yards out with a “real” QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i disagree….
JW doesnt miss hump….not between, mike, CG, brate and OJ….as we all know we racked up a ton of yards but couldnt translate that into points….
our best pass catching RB is a UDFA imo…..
even with those 6 targets per game hump was getting, hardly any were explosive plays or scoring plays….
the problem is TO’s and FG’s….we turn the ball over and kick FG’s in the red zone…..fix that and we’ll be good….

No one misses hump except low standard bucfan who doesn’t understand talent…. hump was is a number 5 wr with no upside and very little talent. No one falls for mediocrity like a desperate bucfan trying to find a positive with a minor league franchise with a high school roster. Not too mention the most boring punt returner the nfl has ever known. Hump catches falls to the ground which more resembles Dotson attempting to block while laying on turf than a talented wr…

That 1 catch for 4 yards that number 5 wr you cant get over made last week was undoubtedly the most impressive 4 yard reception in nfl last week….

its obvious jameis struggles at reading defensives …. holding the ball too long new offense …. its like he is a rookie all over again……its always been his problem….. you would think the O.C. would watch what works …. aka peyton manning ,tom brady , drew brees take what the defense gives you get rid of the ball under 2.5 seconds…..

and plus the fact ME13 is seeing more double teams that prolly has more to do with his lack of targets.
