“He Elevates The Play Of Those Around Him”

September 9th, 2019

Bucs general manager Jason Licht

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht was a proud man before yesterday’s debacle at the Den of Depression.

Afterwards, well, perhaps he jumped in a pool or enjoyed a hot shower with a lot of scrubbing.

Licht joined the Buccaneers Radio Network and was asked about Lavonte David, who just returned to practice last week after losing about four weeks to knee surgery, his first surgery as a professional.

The GM’s tone was one of reverence. He said David’s impact was felt immediately.

“He’s one of those guys; we have a few of them. We talked about one already in Jameis [Winston] and Mike [Evans] especially Lavonte, for a defensive player, he elevates the play of those around him. And we just [felt] the difference once he got back on the practice field. There’s just a different energy. There’s just a different energy. He’s a great player, super-instinctive and once again, also a first-class guy.”

For now, Joe will ignore Licht’s take that Jameis elevates the play of those around him.

The line of David yesterday against the 49ers was six solo tackles. one assist and a tackle for loss. David looked very sharp. And just think, David was concerned he’d be tentative playing on his repaired knee.

Joe suspects the Bucs will need a big play from David to upset the Panthers on Thursday night.

JW elevates the play of those around him?!!!

    These people are truly clueless.

It’s too late, the apathy has set in for fans.

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

but can Lavonte David throw a football????

  3. NPRSageBoy Says:

Even a broken clock is right twice a day

  4. BrianBucs Says:

Licht is possibly the worst GM in the NFL. His record speaks for itself.

  5. volbuc1 Says:

The BUCS are a laughing stock. The Glazers are to blame, they approved everything and they are terrible. Including this idiot Jason Licht! Give me one thing he has done that has worked????

  6. Rojas Says:

Jameis needs to get his head out of his a** and JL needs to fix the right side of the line. Also the run defense was pretty good. But we only sacked Jimmy G once.

  7. BuccoBrucey Says:

I usually don’t check out until Halloween. After yesterday’s performance, I have already checked out. Onto ‘20’s qb draft class

  8. Sarasota Garey Says:

Bucs defense “If we hold the 49ers offense to 256 yards we will win the game” Jameis Winston “Hold my beer”

  9. Buccfan37 Says:

Slick how Licht bought himself more time with the Bucs in the hidden package deal. I’ll be pleasantly shocked if this team bests the Panthers.

  10. Buddy Says:

So now Grandoa Arians is blaming the route on the receivers in his press conference today?? Lol. This guy starting with excuses after first game.

  11. AMI_Chris Says:

The main problem in replacing Winston is that there are a lot of teams that could be looking to draft a new QB. Jax, Washington, Indy, Miami for sure. PIT and the Chargers are going to have to replace their guy eventually.

Big challenge for the Bucs to continue stinking at the level they stunk yesterday. But I’m confident they can do it!

  12. knucknbuc Says:

well jason isnt wrong about jsmeis elevating those around here. unfortunately its usually the other teams players that get elevated

  13. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

The more Licht talks the more I’m convinced he’s a moron

  14. Buccernutter Says:

We don’t need one big play to upset the panthers. I’ve seen enough of this defense to know we are gonna harrass Cam all night. We need to focus on McCaffrey. Their defense is solid but i bet our offense rebounds big time especially with the emergence of Rojo.

We just need to not turn the ball over and we’ll win a low scoring affair.

    23-14 bucs

Haven’t seen Jameis elevating the play of anyone in a long time… maybe not since his rookie season. And that’s damn frustrating. I’ve supported this kid through all his mistakes (on and off the field).

But he looked like a damn mess yesterday. If the Cinci game last year was his worst ever, yesterday may have been his 2nd worst! WTF?!? Like his mechanics just look terrible. His footwork on his throwing motion look totally messed up.

And no, it’s not all on him either.

This o-line, while somewhat improved in run-blocking (finally) hangs Winston out to dry time and time again. We have the most overrated tackles in the league! They are walking penalty machines, negated 2 touchdowns, and they’re gonna get our QB killed one of these weeks. I mean D Smith got b!tched up by rookie playing his first game (who also missed all preseason). Pathetic! Maybe @J0e can explain how he’s worth even half the money Licht gave him?

OJ Howard has his worst game as a pro. But I expect him to bounce back.

Evans was clearly still sick, and some of the other receivers struggled to get separation at times.

Overall the offense was pretty horrendous, besides RoJo and Brate.

  16. Lord Cornelius Says:

Jameis just looked scared/lost. I’ve defened him for years but that game was all on him.

  17. Onetrickpony Says:

The problem is if they did draft a qb and JL is still here how can,you put trust in his pick. This team is doomed as long as he is here Im starting to belive woth the cap hell he has us at

  18. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

He’s the prototypical GM…with a body by Bonzee and a mind of Hot Rod Munch…if your goal is to win 1/3 of your games. Only four more years after this one!

  19. teacherman777 Says:

Too bad Devin White was getting stiff armed in the face like Chris Conte.

Devin White has very short arms.

He looked lost as hell yesterday.

    Buccanon should replace him asap.

  20. Buc'n Enough Says:

    Judging by the pic…

    He’s probably ordering a Domino’s pizza

  21. Stevebobucsfan Says:

I really like Jameis but I am starting to give up on him. I understand he,s changing to a new offense for the first time in his career but it just seems like he keep making the same mistakes I think it’s gonna be the same with Jameis as it was with B Bortles. I don’t see Jameis back next year unless the bucs make the playoffs and he has to have a hell of year

  22. Hodad Says:

The only people buying Licht’s BS are the people who just gave him a new contract, the Glazers. I couldn’t say at this point who is more stupid, Licht, Jameis, or the Glazers. Truth is they’re all clueless, making bad decision, after bad decision.

  23. orlbucfan Says:

Give it to the Licht haters to show up. Bunch of dimwits. Licht can’t draft worth a hoot, huh? Hump, Brate, Hudson, Rojo, Ungodly Godwin, Matt Gay, Whitehead, Barber, Marpet, etc. Licht is the one bright spot we’ve had in 12 years of rotating head coaches and staffs. You want to see some real bad drafts? Go back and look at Bucs history. You’ll really find some stinkeroos in there.

  25. Billy_45 Says:

I mean how do you think BA felt when Jameis threw that last pick 6?

At some point you just gotta look the dude in the eye and say your future is in your hands alone.

    I’m sure Jameis knows this.

Either he settles down or he joins Deadliest Catch for more crab.

He hasn’t even done enough to warrant an analyst job for a sports network.

The one to Sherman could be blamed on Barber running a lazy route, but come on man. Even he didn’t think he was a viable option.

In all honesty Jameis looked scared and that’s a coaching problem.

I’m surely disappointed and quite frankly lost with that performance.

  26. pelbuc Says:

Clueless Glazers children give BA and Light 5 yr contracts and will complete the trifecta by securing JW for a few more years until the fans revolt or the Bucs relocate. Tampa fans have deserved so much more than this yet the Glazers, Licht and JW will laugh all the way to the bank. The level of incompetency hits a new level every passing year.

  27. ben Says:

Licht is the worst gm in football no matter what orlbucfan says..

  28. 541Bucs Says:

Winston DEFINITELY elevates the play of those around him. How many CBs has he helped get into the Pro Bowl?

  29. Armybucsfan Says:

Jameis elevates the play of those on the opposing team to look like pro bowl hall of famers every time he throws them the ball. Lmao

^^^Hellz yeah love the positivity!! For the first time in years im excited to seethe defense play.

  31. Anonymous Says:

volbuc1, okay I will play. Mike Evans for the win! Chris Godwin, for Place! Ali Marpet for show! Cam Brate, Adam Humphreys, Jordan Whitehead, Carl Nassib runners up Yeah we get it the GM has not had success with every player he has signed. But he has brought in several very good players. Just like other good GMs. Not every swing is a hit and not every hit is a homerun. Should he just quit swinging? Did the Glazers not just give him a contract extension? They are the ones signing the checks.. I guess they like his results.
    Go Bucs!
