Joe is going to go more into detail about a bizarre fourth quarter intentional grounding call against America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, which may have led to his game-deciding pick-six.
In the fourth quarter with the Bucs holding a first down on the 49ers-9, Jameis was under pressure and threw the ball toward Clearwater. Tight end Cam Brate seemed as if he was blasted at the end of the play and a flag went up.
Joe and just about everyone in the press box thought it was a late hit or defensive pass interference. Instead it was intentional grounding.
Though this was explained on the game broadcast it was not explained to Bucs players as they seemed as confused as the entire press corps about why and how that was intentional grounding.
Brate said after the game the call was not explained to the Bucs. But that may have stuck in Jameis’ head to hear Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians after the game.
Asked for his description of Jameis’ fatal pick-six, Arians had this to say:
“He’s trying to throw a screen and the back [Dare Ogunbowale] doesn’t get out,” Arians said. “He’s trying to throw the ball away. But he had already gotten the one grounding call. … Just throw at their feet. He was trying to throw it away.”
If Joe is to believe Arians — and why wouldn’t Joe? — did that grounding call screw with Jameis’ head that he couldn’t throw the ball away, or risk another flag and then try to force it?
When are Bucs fans going to reach the finish line of explanations why Jameis screwed up? And if a flag — albeit a strange call — gets into his noggin that much that he forgets simple fundamentals, can the Bucs bank on such a quarterback for the future? At some $30 million a year?

If by Divine Intervention the Bucs have a winning season this year, it will be due to Todd Bowles Defense and a promising running game.
Fact remains that a new QB is needed next year. Winston doesn’t deserve the franchise tag or a new contract even if the team has success somehow.
I’m almost bracing myself emotionally for ME13 to demand a trade halfway into the season.

Gman- you just said we should sign Quinton Flowers- so you should stop posting because what you say from this point on doesnāt matter. Just messing with you. It is one game and this one is on Jameis. He does have an accomplice and it is Dotson- donāt excuse him for his Huge mistakes. O-line pass blocking was poor, run blocking in second half was great. The good news is so far Koetter still sucks and so does Cam. We are tied right now for last…but also tied for first. Letās see what happens boys and golirls.

Im with Arians all the way on this but im putting that final int on Dotson. He really played like he’s past his prime today folks. Tmaxcon is right about him. They need to move on from Dotson like tomorrow. He had multiple penalties as usual and allowed all the pressure. D. Smith had a good game. Not great but it was good. Jameis was great damn the haters which is sad. He had one legit turnover. The rest was on OJ Howard who had terrible game. The fumble and the int killed us today. I wonder if T. Hudson will get some more game reps? Seriously though Jameis had one turnover where he missed Godwin and was immature by going at R. Sherman the whole game as well. The defense played bout as good as they could play given the turnover ratio. The fumbles by OJ, bad blocking on the RT, penalties on RT we’re the doom. Anybody blaming Jameis don’t know the game deep. I agree with BA on this one but I just think Dotson gotta go he was awful today and he played like he always does which is telling. He failed Winston from start to finish and took away from Cappa as well

Seriously, no matter what, our beloved qb is beat up by the fanbase no matter what. Yes, Winston sucks because of accuracy, however, no matter what he does everyone will find the fault. Unfortunately for us, Brady will retire soon and Winston will probably go to the Patriots and win some superbowls. It’s a bucslife!

Perfect example was that weak defense they gave us on the third and long conversion by Ronald Jones(just before the called back TDs).
Over and over again this team just always seems to find a way to lose and never a way to win.
To start off your season by giving up a punt block really should have told us all how this game was going to turn out.

Sadly, BA was hired to save Licht who drafted the mistake known as JW. The trust fund babies got conned by all 3. Now Licht has a 5 yr contract as well as BA. JW has the worst week 1 qb rating our of any qb including the backup Jags QB who didn’t know he was going to play, Dorset with had bad luck to start, RG3 who played a series and had a TD, whoever the rookie in Arizona is,…… All of them. He is in last place for QB rating….. That’s impressively bad.

Actually, luckily, if we start over at qb we won’t be rebuilding. Thankfully, the majority of the team is still young and intact. Even if Evans, suh and david move on, we have a number one wr, we can draft the rest. Qb and right tackle are our Achilles heal.

What an incredible game this ways! Unfortunately, our heroes did not quite win. And, so it goes. Start of a new Buc season. One that many here predicted 9+ wins. There were tremendous, I thought, gains over last year’s team. Overall, I don’t recognize this defense. It is totally to me, different and more promising than any I’ve since many years ago. They don’t seem predictable to me, which I think is good.
ROJO woke like Sleeping Beauty and looked very effective. It would be interesting to see him run on a long play- -maybe on some more screens.
And, of course there is the negative. I doubt Famous Jameis is going to survive this one. To start the game he was, as usual, high. I’ll let the stats speak for themselves. But, don’t forget, he had two INTs dropped by the 49rs down close. He is, was, and I think forever a turnover machine. He has flashes of excellence at times, however, they come far too seldom. Concentrate on the draft.
For this year, 5-6 wins. Sorry. I’m sorry, also.

Someone inform Joe that this play was on 1ST DOWN. High-Football-IQ Winston hardly made this mistake because he was confused about the other call.
WATCH THE REPLAY of that play again…
49ers LB Greenlaw (#57) realizes it’s a screen long before Winston even throws the ball… Greenlaw shifts left and sheds his block from Jensen, and immediately JAMS Dare from being able to run into the flat.
Winston’s JOB is to make sure his RB releases into the flat. Winston does not THROW THE BALL away. He doesn’t realize Dare hasn’t released and just throws the prayer thinking he’ll be there. This is 100% on Winston. A terrible mistake.

I blame Greg Schiano for getting in the head of Jameis Winston. Perhaps the clock installed shortly after Schiano touching down at TIA is to blame? Maybe Mike Glennon is to blame? Glennon was the pick to screw up Freeman and drove him to the good party 3 years prior to Glennon arriving.
The Bucs hired 15 QB whisperers to solve the problem.
Moral of the story: If a clock disrupts team chemistry and it lingers on for years, you are the definition of dysfunction. No coach is walking through that door to solve it. Winston was never the answer, only the sheep who buy that “franchise QB” nonsense will bite.

LOLZ. Winston would never go to the Patriots and play. They rely on short drops and some of the fastest passes in the league (hence the reason Brady is rarely touched). Winston leads the league in holding the ball too long.

I’m 40 and held season tickets for 12 years, this operation is a mess. They build backwards and drafted a (turnover prone in college) QB to heal their wounds. The Patriots have a dynasty because the other 3 teams in their division are basically the Buccaneers dysfunction every year. That’s almost 6 guaranteed wins, you do that math. The End.

The way I see it…new system, new teachings, a new focus on mechanics…truth be told, I did not expect to win this game going in. I figured too many units needed time to gel together first.
No excuses for Winston. He played poorly. Period. But that doesn’t mean it will continue like that. Arian didn’t show me anything this week. Todd sure did though. The defense was very much improved.
Suh was fantastic. Davis was great. White was mostly invisible except for a few plays. They had him defending the pass…dropping back. Matt Gay filled my heart with joy. Being able to count on him is a big boost.
The offense will get better. We might need the defense and our kicker to carry the team through the first few weeks.
It might be popular to bash Winston right now…he certainly earned it today…but if Arians is all he is said to be, Winston will turn things around quickly.
Although, if the oline doesn’t start doing better, Winston might get injured. If that happens, I hope Gabbert is not back yet.

Winston threw 2 INTs throwing to the RB, when Barber cut inside on a throw and he threw outside – and on that last play when Dare ran right into two 49ers lineman when Winston was throwing it to where he was supposed to be. I don’t think it has anything to do with the fake news complete BS intentional grounding, it has to do with him and Barber not being on the same page, and with Dare getting caught up in the line. In any case the 49ers appeared to be waiting on that last play, even if they didn’t know it was a middle screen, they knew it was some sort of screen. The simpleton talk radio/message board d-bags will just yell and scream because they’re too stupid to know what was being called there and what happened, but in any case you need to see results. Leftwich did, I believe, a terrible job today outside of the TD drive where they went to more of a hurry up and they weren’t so incredibly predictable. When we’re one game into the season and even the idiots here know what is coming, there’s a problem.

2 captains from the 2012 Buccaneer roster complained and won out with ownership because a head coach installed a clock in the locker room. That coach never had a chance because the Glazer family allows the players to run the roster and locker room, dysfunction. I dropped my season tickets about 3 weeks later, that was the moment I knew the Glazer kids have no clue. They hired this coach to lay down the law and fired him because of this style.

So I have to agree that jameis executes the play as called without consideration to what’s happening on the field.
“It was a trust play/throw” said Winston when asked about the screen that led to the pick 6. In other words I was expecting my guy to be where he’s supposed to be. I’d say the same thing happened with Barber and the Sherman pick 6. Winston threw that pass before Barber broke off his route, a timing play imo.
Winston can’t win. It’s either too early or too late and when he hit Evans in stride he falls to the ground. Pavlov’s dog, everybody scared of getting hit, understandably so I guess.

#57 on the 49ers reads that it’s a screen and runs over to jam Dare, keeping him from releasing. It’s Jameis’ job to look and make sure the RB releases before throwing the ball. That’s Pee Wee football 101.

The blocked punt set the RIDICULOUS tone. Jameis just needs to keep it simple and put it on the team more. He canāt force the Bucs to be good. Sidenote; 2 backup titans o-linemen looked better than the Bucs starters. Baker was worse. I watched that game and have heard EVERYONE here, bashing Jameis, pretend Baker was some franchise savior for Cleveland. Trade straight up and watch Cleveland BALL OUT and Tampa get EVEN WORSE!!!!!! šššš you wanted Trubisky last month and Baker two days ago. Just watch the growth week to week and donāt expect immediate results with no real running game to speak of

In fairness, Munch, Byron has to get a feel for what his guys are good at. If you donāt see them improve, GREATLY, id be surprised and upset if I were a fan. Theyāll execute better vs Carolina and heāll see āhurry upā is advantageous for Jameis and the offense if itās that glaring of a difference. No reason to put Jameis in those predicaments that rely on COMPLETE execution, from a TRASH line and backfield. That IS DUMB!!!!

No but seriously though, that was truly an odd penalty. Even the announcers were saying in all their years of football experience and knowledge they couldnāt figure out why that flag was throw. Iāve seen countless throws like that where the qb whoās under duress just throws it out of the back of the end zone instead of forcing a turnover and have never once seen that flag thrown for intentional grounding. What was the explanation by the way???
