The powers that be at One Buc Palace approve of an ex-Buccaneer talking to fans on their website and he doesn’t hold back.
If he’s lying, then the Bucs should fire the guy tomorrow.
Joe’s talking about John Gilmore, the Chucky-Raheem era tight end who spent 10 years in the NFL. Gilmore is on an official Buccaneers postgame show and he was in a bit of disbelief after today’s beating by the 49ers.
Gilmore threw darts at Jameis Winston for his lack of overall leadership. Gilmore explained that he played with Drew Brees in New Orleans and Jameis simply isn’t inspiring his teammates and isn’t holding them accountable like Brees does.
“Some of these guys are lazy. Donovan Smith, he has lazy feet, doesn’t finish plays late in the game,” Gilmore said.
The point was that Jameis, per Gilmore, tolerates too much laziness and sloppiness from teammates, stuff that wouldn’t fly under a veteran QB like Brees.
Gilmore is convinced the accountability and leadership from Jameis is lacking because he doesn’t play well enough to speak up.
“How can you hold people accountable if you’re not out there performing?” Gilmore asked rhetorically.
As for Smith and his “lazy feet,” it’s not a surprising comment. Nobody will ever accuse Smith of playing through the whistle every snap. But the Bucs knew that when they paid him a fat contract this offseason.

Drew Brees has the resume and respect where people listen to his criticisms and take them seriously.

I’m convinced that both Gabbert AND Griffin give us a better chance to win than does Winston. And since Gabbert is hurt, give the first team reps to Griffin going forward.

I understand the concern on Dotson and Cappa. I am not sure of the attack on D Smith. The left tackle played 62 snaps. Bosa went against him on more than one occasion. How many sacks and how many pressures did Bosa have against D Smith today?
Dare is someone that we need to point out as failing today. The guy just got crushed on the punt that lead to the block and also was just poor in not getting out to his spot on Jameis 2nd pick 6. That guy played what 15 snaps and had two big mistakes. If we are calling a guy as lazy, let’s call out the guy that fails and only plays a few snaps.

ah yes lets blsme donovan smith for jameises mistakes. we all know the second qt sack from bosa the one play he made after running around donovan for 3+ secs messed up jameis snd his perfect form. its all donovans fsult. hey @joe how did desesn do today??? any problem on deep balls?? askkng for a friend 🙂

What really sucks about the Donovan Smith fiasco was Joe’s undying defense of him. If I were Arians, I would put my foot down and threaten to move him to RT or inside to G where he’ll cry like a lil’ girl.

I think D. Smith is a extremely poor man’s version of Donald Penn.
Penn was physically limited in the natural talent department and Smith has all the potential in the world but chooses not to maximize it. Something tells me that he is not a real football player who loves the game, just a dude who has gotten to the pinnacle based on raw talent and circumstance.
With that said…
The way Jameis plays will NEVER lead others to be better. He simply has no ground to stand on and demand greatness from those around him.
Jameis looks like a rookie still and consistently makes boneheaded plays game after game. That’s not a recipe for a true leader of men. Real leaders provide an example.
Jameis sucked today, plain and simple. Not matter who else on the team messed up, Jameis is supposed to be the guy, and he isn’t.

Been saying Smith is overrated for quite some time. I still can’t believe they gave Licht and extension. Smith cannot handle speed. He’s barely average.

I think D. Smith and Jameis are both on the same level of being overpaid/valued at their position.
Donovan just looks completely lazy on the field. Dude has cement shoes, looks fat and seemingly wears a Snuggie under his uniform.

Bottom line is you can’t take a bum with very little talent and make them a top flight QB.. no matter how much you tell yourself that you can.
This team and JW are just pathetic, from owners to FO all the way down. Until a real football entity buys this team it will remain so. When organizations don’t need fans to turn a profit, and ownership is just collecting checks, it will never change.

Been saying it for years on this site. D. Smith is a liability and as long as he is the LT the Bucs will have a subpar line. It was atrocious today in every possible level. The offense went backwards exponentially. Evans being sick was HUGE.

I didn’t see Smith being lazy I seen that heat put a beating on our big guys today. Vea and Smith really lost to nature today but their play was outstanding in all honesty. Bosa did nothing and Dotson so bad Smith had to block for him as well from LT, lol. Seriously I think if we move on from Dotson results will show. Ol biscuit really risk it 😂😂 going with this guy at this point. We gotta get younger to cater more to our new team leaders. I didn’t really see lazy though and imo I they were being lazy Jameis would’ve called them out on it reason why he ain’t rah rah rah about it

The fact that JW “isn’t doing enough” to be a leader is a moot point. He is the QB. That gives him the right to be the leader and lead. If the other “leaders” on the team give him unconditional respect, that will send a message to all players to fall in line. It will become self fulfilling. It’s the brotherhood mentality of being teammates that should rule.
