“Steady Progress”
September 4th, 2019All signs at One Buc Palace say the Buccaneers have found their right guard of the present and the future.
Many fans read those signs, however, and fall into a state of stunned disbelief. But that’s not Bruce Arians’ problem. He’s got his man, Alex Cappa, who Arians says keeps getting better and better and better and better.
“I mean, it’s solid. I mean, it’s his job,” Arians said yesterday of Cappa’s job security. “He’d have to lose it, hopefully he doesn’t do that. He’s made steady progress. Got beat in the Cleveland game a couple of times, but he’s made really good progress.”
Again, Joe didn’t hear anyone crying about Cappa in training camp or through two preseason games. So a complete freakout for a brutal half against the beasts of the Browns’ front-4 is a tad overblown. If Cappa is the player the Bucs think he is, he’ll learn from that and rise to the challenge. If he’s just a weaksauce guard, well, then NFL defensive coordinators are going to come after him in a hurry he’ll be exposed accordingly.
One thing Joe is certain of, if Cappa plays like Caleb Benenoch did last season, unlike Benenoch, he’ll be benched by midseason.

In Cappa We Trust! #longhairdon’tcare

And I’m sure Pro Bowl DT DeForest Buckner (12 sacks last season) will make “steady progress” the entire game trucking him or blowing past him. Yikes.

A second year oline gets beat badly in preseason is “a tad overblown”
But a rookie DW who didn’t make plays in the in first preseason ” is alarming”?
What is going on in these parts ???

With this o-line we may see a move to the wildcat by mid October

Cleveland D should be pretty solid. I drafted them in at least one league I recall.
Sometimes elite D fronts can just destroy a line – especially in vanilla preseason without adjustments / going max protect / etc.
Hell I remember games where even the Pats solid O-line got lit up / destroyed by Von Miller. That Denver front was able to make a lot of decent O-lines look bad.
Wishful hopeful thinking lol
GO BUCS!

we’ll see…..
GO BUCS!!!!!

Piggy backing on Sidney, just wait till he meets DT DeForest Buckner. He going to get out muscled, out played and crushed.
September 4th, 2019 at 12:45 pm
cappa will never develop with such a horrendous rt next to him. every defensive opponent gets a day off facing this line from left to right not a single nfl starter…
September 4th, 2019 at 12:55 pm
An aging Dotson will escalate or inhibit Cappa’s learning trajectory.
September 4th, 2019 at 12:59 pm
Cappa ragdolled a 215lb. d-lineman on tape ( talk about future UPS driver/loader ) and Licht Weight absolutely soiled himself. “I will once again outsmart the league a la Marpet” thought Licht. Another trade up and here we are. Cappa simply isn’t built to play guard…maybe back up right tackle. Oh swell…hope I’m wrong.
September 4th, 2019 at 1:01 pm
Wasn’t this guy drafted to be a tackle? We should of moved Marpet back to RG Cappra at RT and found a LG. Too late now. Go Bucs!!!
September 4th, 2019 at 1:07 pm
While 4 2nd round O linemen start for other teams while our 2 Nd rounder sits the bench. Glad this years draft was to help out in 2020. No O line help in Winston’s final prove it year?? Not a Winston fan but they sure didn’t do anything to help him succeed.
September 4th, 2019 at 1:18 pm
Benched for who? Who will take over midseason if Cappa is weaksauce? If they have someone better than step right up now! and that in there is where the problem lies…
September 4th, 2019 at 1:21 pm
The Niners do have some good pass rushers. We’ll see on Sunday if our coaching has actually improved enough to take advantage of an aggressive pass rush. In conclusion, it’s about coaching to Cappa’s strengths and weaknesses.

Viva the “Toothless Turnstyle” Cappa!
September 4th, 2019 at 2:01 pm
When Cappa flames out like most of Licht’s draft picks, at least he’ll have made enough money to open his own pot shop near Humbolt U..
September 4th, 2019 at 2:30 pm
“Wasn’t this guy drafted to be a tackle? ”
No drafted to play OG.
GO BUCS!

@ Limpchimpi That is Spot On !!! Licht did exactly that , another opportunity to prove how ignorant he really is towards the # asset !!! Spot On !!!
However he goes to bed dreaming that is going to be hailed the o line whisperer !!! I truly believe such as there is absolutely no other rationale!!!
The Glazer are just so so clueless Even Hugh Culverhouse is twisting in the dirt !!! “ Boy don’t screw up dem # 1 s like me it cost me a 100 million and that’s a Billion now !!!
Just what is the Bucs value index compared to the top 10 valued teams in the league under Licht !! That’s going to be a big arss number !!! I mean big arss number !!!
September 4th, 2019 at 4:00 pm
I can’t complain about Cappa anymore this week, it’s clear BA isn’t going to do anything before the first game, so he will either sink or swim on Sunday. Hoping the O-line looks decent and doesn’t get Jameis and Barber killed… Better go with the West Coast offense since BA doesn’t use max protect. Could be a long day…..

Love that song. Thx Joe
September 4th, 2019 at 4:13 pm
I like predictions:
With the 5th pick of the 2020 draft, the Buccaneers select Right Guard…..
September 4th, 2019 at 4:31 pm
Hey Donuts , I’ve been comparing this irrational to Indy for years and years and that’s exactly what they had to do last year !!!
Just like the Bucs lost value in the cap and draft by having to take the 12 to 15 th pick to early and not trade out !!! All the lil value loses add up and separate the winners and the losers !!!
September 4th, 2019 at 4:36 pm
I’ll reserve judgement for this guy until after his first game in this offense. Defiently not encouraged after he got destroyed last week but that game don’t matter.
If they got him in there they are not anticipated a repeat of that game. I will buy in. And if it goes south I expect Watford to come off the bench or Byron to make an adjustment to his protection.
This team better have a freaking plan A and a plan B&C. If not they are in over their heads which seems doubtful given their pedigrees.
September 4th, 2019 at 5:28 pm
1st pick 2020 draft will be DB TE or WR you forget we extended Licht!
September 4th, 2019 at 5:35 pm
Hey Joes: when you going to update the pics on these postings?
September 4th, 2019 at 6:54 pm
Alex Cappa was a good selection…it was just made 3 rounds too early. Rounds 1 to 3 should be used to select QB’s and players that you and the majority of pundits expect to start as rookies (you won’t hit 100% of the time). Rounds 4 and 5 are for good players with curable/livable injuries, physical deficiencies (e.g. a slow safety or a RB who has fewer than normal bench press reps) or character flaws. Rounds 6, 7 and FA is for kickers and developmental players. Once a team is established and well stocked with players you can deviate some. This scouting staff follows the rules in round 1 but is completely undisciplined in rounds 2 through 7 (See Aquayo, Murphy-Bunting, Stewart, Nelson, Cappa, Smith, Bennenoch, etc).

He is 6-6 with no butt and skinny legs.
Looks like a guard to me! Oh wait. He doesnt.
Guards need to get low to get push.
Cappa doesnt get low. Hes 6-6.
He is a career swing backup tackle.
We will have wasted 4 seasons at guard bc of Licht.
Cutting Mankins to get Sweazy. Sweazy sitting for 1 season.
Patrick Omameh. Remember him?
Oneil Cousins?

Teacherman triple 7s:
All good points…I believe Mankins retired instead of collecting @ 8 million left on his contract. Makes you wonder about the “culture” or lack thereof at the time.
