For years, Pro Football Hall of Fame voter Mike Sando has interviewed a significant group of NFL executives and asked them to respond candidly to questions about other teams.
Of course, Sando types up choice nuggets or consensus reports on the answers and upholds his promises to these NFL suits that he won’t release their names.
Sando now works for the pay-per-view website The Athletic and he churned out a new piece highlighting executives’ concerns about each club. His summary response about the Bucs can be summed up in two words: America’s Quarterback.
Sando chose a long quote from one of his mystery panelists to illustrate fear of Jameis.

The worry: Jameis Winston is not reborn under a new head coach.
“The fear is, you just did new deals with your head coach and GM, but you could be at the crossroads next year because of the quarterback. There have been signs in the preseason that Winston has the same bad habits he’s had all along, no matter how much it has been preached, no matter how much technique he has been taught, no matter what has been built into him by the new staff. My concern is that he reverts to his old habits during games – mechanically, just forcing the ball, turnovers, all that stuff.”
Joe feels comfortable saying Team Glazer has no “fear” about Jameis. If they did, he would have been gone when he was labeled a sex offender by the Roger Goodell court of the NFL last year.
Also, Team Glazer should have no “fear” of Jameis having a rough season. If it happens, it happens. That’s football. Bucco Bruce Arians has established a quarterback incubator in Tampa with himself and Byron Leftwich, Tom Moore and Clyde Christensen. Is there a better coaching group to groom a rookie QB in 2020?
Joe’s not worried about the Bucs and the quarterback position. Running back, defense and offensive line are another story.

In order for the Glazers to dole out that HUGE contract Winston will have to have a Mahomes-type season.
He’ll have to play lights out the entire season….and even then…even then.
I just don’t see Winston returning next season. Which is why I smh head at all his daily critics on JBF. The kid is gone anyways, but they continue to pound away with the same old nonsense.

And always, always remember: ignorant people get flustered under pressure. This is so very evident in JW. Point in case, how does he do in the red zone? This is the ultimate pressure for an NFL quarterback, trying to score touchdowns once they enter the red zone.

Should taken Will Grier this year. Jameis still has a chance to get paid by the bucs but he has to ball out this year. 8 wins minimum or he is gone. And people are not going to be knocking his door down with 30 mil like some think.

Why does Bucs fans and media let everyone talk alot of crap about our team? It’s justified I get it but this our sh!t and we know what’s best and what to expect. I’m tired hearing about these outsiders and we allowed it.
I’m not even excited about the season for first time of my life. Maybe I should stay away all media stuff next time.

If that was true the Bucs would have given Jameis the big money contract extension. Goff and Wentz did not have to wait for their deals because those teams already *know* what they have in their QB. By not extending Jameis there has to be fear and doubt on the Buccaneers side.
I agree that his best year was his rookie year. I’ll never forget the home game against Atlanta. I don’t know where that guy went, the guy that took control of the team and willed it to win, but it’s silly to blame the fans. Fans have no power to impact the game time performance of a player.

Arians will be the END of Jameis Winston’s career, you watch.
Arians will not put up with Winston’s accuracy issues and bad-decision making. He’s giving him the benefit of the doubt for now, but his patience will wear thin soon enough.
By about Week 9, Jameis will probably be benched for good. Arians will be fed up with him and the Glazers will concur with the move (as it’s the transition towards not resigning Winston).
2020 Is A New Buccaneers Era. And it begins without America’s Turnover Machine.

whoever said this is clearly biased and not watching the games. the jameis i saw (although not great with his deep passes and jittery feet caused by our o-line) was one that did not try and force balls downfield and huck them up like he has been known to do and also not fumbling or randomly just doing something stupid with the ball. the quote saying he has seen him do the same things is absolutely wrong because he didnt turn the ball over.

I think it really depends on if Winston buys into Arians philosophy. Taking what the defense gives you is never what Winston or Koetter have done. If Winston can read the defense at the line and decide where to go with the ball immediately, I think he’ll do well.
And I think he’s football smart. In my opinion, after he has had a bad game, he has tried to correct it. It seems to me that he has always played better after he makes too many mistakes. I think this time may be different because he has BA pointing out things he needs to change.
I believe in BA. Go Bucs!!!

Jameis first year was successful in part because Koetter simplified the offense.
Koetter basically cut the field in half to help Jameis and give him less progressions to read. And DB55, Jameis was not undefeated in college. You forgot the 59-20 loss to Oregon.

There’s no real drama to speak of this time before the start of the season so it has Joe out of sorts a little, and apparently it makes them a willing participant to create or manufacture drama. It’s in their nature. Evidently they feel it drives their own success. Keeps readers engaged.

In a nutshell: you will always have a terrible team when you have a terrible QB. There are some one-offs but those are usually associated with an injured QB trying to tough it out or a tenured QB playing past his prime.

I know I’m not the only sick and tired of the JW hating. Arians know he has always been surrounded by a garbage team, no defense, no running game. Turnovers happen to the best when you are always playing from behind. At least in Tampa, we should take our collective heads out of our asses and back the best QB this franchise has ever had.

Bob don’t worry the haters will be silenced this year. Todd Bowles will bring us the defense you’re yearning for. The running game might take some extra time but will be more competent then last year.
This will allow Winston to focus on moving the sticks, taking what’s there & making positive plays. Couple that with a game plan that will setup much easier reads then the seven step & survey plays that we are used to and we will see much better QB play then we have. More importantly we will see wins as a result.
& With each win the haters will evaporate.
Of course it could go the other way in which case the nugglers will evaporate but that won’t happen bro.

Glazers have” no fear “?!?!! Wow that’s a joke. If that were the case he woulda been resigned/extended. There is ABSOLUTELY fear. The only reason he wasn’t cut for doing dumb sh*t is bcuz he shows flashes of being a good qb. He does just enough to keep u hopeful but overall he’s failed. Some chuckle-worthy comments… I, too, fear nothing after Koetter and Smitty! BA has made nothing but unemotional, logical decisions so far… shipped out GMC while landing Suh, gathered a bunch of familiar Arizona faces and only kept the good (Buchanon and Barrett) while cutting the bad (Ellington), handed out some feel-good opportunities in TC and only kept the ones who fit (Hudson) while waiving the pre-season wonders (Schnell), made his own judgments when separating the resurgent (VH3, RoJo, Gholston, Cappa) from the busts (Spence)… and stuck with some players/salaries (JPP and Brate) who many begged to have auctioned off to fund some fresh meat on OL. Bucs made progress as a team no matter what happens. I’m no JW apologist but, like BA, I’m all-in for at least one more year. Let ‘er rip!
