Not Shady In Tampa
September 1st, 2019LeSean “Shady” McCoy, as one could expect, quickly found a new home.
The former stud running back of the Buffalo Bills did not make the final-53 cutdown Saturday. A few hours later, his former coach in Philadelphia embraced him with open arms.
Late last night, it was learned the Kansas City Chiefs signed McCoy, by way of Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Former #Bills RB LeSean McCoy has found a new home. He’s headed to Kansas City to sign with the #Chiefs, source said. He got a 1-year deal worth $3M. It can be worth $4M in incentives.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 1, 2019
They are also many reports on social media that the Chargers were heavy-panting over McCoy (what does that tell you about Melvin Gordon’s status with Los Angeles?). Joe figured since Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians brought in aging Adrian Peterson a couple of years ago to run wild on the Bucs, that perhaps Arians would take a flyer on McCoy. Sadly, Joe tricked himself into believing this might happen.
As Joe responded to a couple of frustrated Bucs fans on Twitter last night after the McCoy deal was announced, the Bucs simply do not value the running back position.
Oh, they may give lip service to wanting to run the ball. But outside of burning a second-round pick on a bust, when have the Bucs been serious about upgrading the position?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Bucs drafted Ronald Jones in the second round and he had one of the worst seasons in recent memory for a rookie running back drafted in the second round. So bad that few running backs with an awful rookie start like that ever turned things around.
So with ample chances to beef up the running attack, the Bucs just looked away and crossed their fingers hoping Jones somehow snaps out of it.
Heck, when the Bucs brought Arians in, he openly scoffed at using a high draft pick on a running back.
Unless Team Glazer orders its employees otherwise, or the braintrust of the Bucs has a sudden and unexpected change of heart, Joe does not expect the Bucs to upgrade the running back position any time soon.
In recent years, this franchise will not upgrade at running back and pretends that a pass rush is a back burner issue — why else would a team bank on a guy with a broken neck to fall from the sky in late October (at best) and try to chase quarterbacks?
Teams serious about a pass rush don’t sit back and bank on such far-flung hope.
And maybe not so coincidentally with the rejection of running backs and shoulder-shrugging at a pass rush, the Bucs have lost 53 games the past five seasons.

Well said Joe!

and Josh Allen in Jax looks like he is going to be a stud… Its a Bucs life!

Probably all true…..and concerning…..but, the negativism makes me think this Joe should go to Church this AM…..get some positive vibes from somewhere.
September 1st, 2019 at 8:19 am
Joe asks why else would a team bank on a guy with a broken neck and at the same time ignore the running back position?? That is an easy question to answer. BECAUSE ITS THE BUCS! Let’s call a moron a moron. The front office is run by a completely clueless buffoon who looks like he knows more about when the next all you can eat buffet opens more than how to draft and develop good players. And if you give me the line that BA wouldn’t be here without him I say FINE!! This golf cart driving beanie wearing (all be it good coach) one heart issue away from leaving our sorry arse coach is NOT a worth having if it means keeping Jason Gump.
September 1st, 2019 at 8:24 am
Yeah…that was well said. With the right conviction added in too. These jokers in the front office think they know better, as if they know better than the collective other 31 other front offices over the past 50 years in the recipe of winning formulas for playoff teams. These fat hacks don’t miss a meal, or a round of drinks, but they sure miss what the rest of us do.
September 1st, 2019 at 8:26 am
Perhaps the Bucs have a claim for Samaje Perine to replace Ronald Jones. I think they should also be looking at Bo Scarborough to replace Peyton Barber. In the case of Scarborough it would reduce salary if they view him being equivalent to Barber.
September 1st, 2019 at 8:40 am
McCoy is washed up, I’m not happy with the Bucs RB’s either but signing a disgruntled over 30 dude is not the answer, if you are just looking at names OJ Simpson is available as well.
September 1st, 2019 at 8:41 am
Like he was going anywhere but back to Andy Reid.
September 1st, 2019 at 8:43 am
Let’s be honest. We will know all we need to know about this team on Sunday. Anything short of a 2 td win over a terrible 49ers team is just sad. And if we loose you can prepare for another bad season.
September 1st, 2019 at 8:47 am
The Bucs have done a good job with UDFAs…..
2 of the 3 RBs, Barber & Dare are UDFAs
3 of the 4 TE’s..Brate, Auclair & Hudson
LB Demone Harris & Fan Favorite WR Bobo Wilson also an UDFA
As of this point, we added Bailey & Oconnor
LS Zach Triner is an UDFA
Even our oldest Buc….Demar Dotson is an UDFA
So, by my count, 11 of our 53 are UDFAs…..
September 1st, 2019 at 8:51 am
Josh Allen and Greedy Williams were passed by licht in the draft, laremy tunsil was available but Cappa is better in lichts eyes… 5-11
September 1st, 2019 at 8:52 am
@Joe has been desperate to get a pass rusher.
Sadly, a running back does not punch that ticket.
September 1st, 2019 at 8:53 am
This team is not serious about winning.
September 1st, 2019 at 8:59 am
Take a pill Joe. McCoy is the answer to the question “name a washed up RB who can’t even make the Bills” not “what RB will return to his former glory”.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:13 am
So passing on a 31 y.o. RB coming off injuries and a bad year is the sign of incompetence?
What is wrong with you people? I thought y’all were tired of that kind of nonsense…
The dude couldn’t make the Bills!
September 1st, 2019 at 9:18 am
Poor Joe lol.
I didn’t even take the suggestion seriously, to be honest.
I don’t believe we even NEED to get a better RB. We have some good ones already. And I refuse to judge the offensive line off one bad performance. That’s just silly. It might take 1-3 weeks for it to truly gel, but it will get there.
I like our current roster. It’s time to see if all the hype on these coaches can be earned.
I suspect we’re trending up big time. Nothing is impossible!
September 1st, 2019 at 9:18 am
“The Bucs have done a good job with UDFAs…..”
“So, by my count, 11 of our 53 are UDFAs…..”
That’s like a hospital that brags about it’s surgical team, “None of our doctors have been to medical school or have any practical experience. We are an equal opportunity employer.”
September 1st, 2019 at 9:26 am
@ Ghost
Not bragging…..but every team needs a healthy dose of UDFAs to make their team to ease the cap problems and compliment their FAs & Draft picks…..
Just looking for something positive in this highly negative environment…
September 1st, 2019 at 9:28 am
Ghost right on, the bucs are 5-11 so how good are they really doing on UDFAs, about as well as drafting rookies & signing FAs…. 5-11

“Let’s be honest. We will know all we need to know about this team on Sunday. Anything short of a 2 td win over a terrible 49ers team is just sad. And if we loose you can prepare for another bad season. ”
That’s hogwash. First, you don’t know how good or bad the 49ers will be. Even the experts get it wrong every year.
Second, you ignore the concept of development and improvement. The bandwagon Tampa fans (which is most of them) always expect rookies to play !ike pro bowlers out of the gates. They always expect the first game to show them what the season will be like.
I remember one year we lost by six points to the Saints in the first game of the season. Fans were all doom and gloom saying our team sucked. We ended up winning the Superbowl that year.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:35 am
The perfect laugher on this whole issue is that BA did sign Peterson in Arizona, but not interested in McCoy. Because McCoy isn’t even better than Dare at this stage of his career. If BA wasn’t interested, it’s because he shouldn’t be. Washed up and oft-injured, he is in KC because Andy Reid drafted him. Formerly a great RB, I wish him well in KC. We don’t need him. Next Sunday can’t get here soon enough.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:36 am
Joe do you know it on good authority the Bucs passed? I seriously doubt McCoy would choose the Bucs over KC so it is entirely possible the Bucs had an offer on the table.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:36 am
Nice take Bonzai.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:48 am
Just what the Bucs need. A washed up RB who has run ins with the law. No thanks. KCs prob now.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:50 am
Hey, look, the Bucs didn’t sign someone I recognize. IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD.
September 1st, 2019 at 9:56 am
As Ive mentioned before this is the prove Jason Light right campaign this year. Winston is in his last year and we made sure to get rid of any competition. No running backs to compete with Barber or Jones who are both Lights guys. No help on O-line or D-line because he already threw money at it and failed. Overpaid for Smith, Jensen, Beau Allen, Mitch Unrein, Chris Baker, Gholston and he needs Arians to shine a turd. McCoy is over 30 and was terrible last year and no one other than Joe wanted him here. He is now a Chief and every running back looks good there. Here he would look like our other running backs because there is no blocking.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:01 am
I understand how having a big name RB seems smart and sexy on paper. I wager however that no RB would find success with The Bucs due to the extreme lack of talent and depth on the OL. What good is a race car if there is no pavement to run it on. In fact, I would bet Barber would be much higher regarded if he were on a team with a good OL.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:02 am
Joe you think McCoy or Gordon wants to play here?
September 1st, 2019 at 10:09 am
Thank goodness. McCoy has a handful of good games/carries bumping up that stat line, the rest of the time he was Doug Martin
September 1st, 2019 at 10:20 am
Guessing they may have had more interest after the first week of the season when they wouldn’t have been on the hook for his current salary. That nasty old cap restriction thingy again.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:26 am
So a report came out four teams were interested in mccoy. It was also known mccoy wanted to play for a contender. Those four teams were kc, philly, the pats, and chargers. Yet this idiot fan base thought the bucs had the inside track to sign mccoy? Hey IDIOTS…..even if licht did make a call to mccoy, guess what? Mccoy did not answer. The dumbest fan base by far
September 1st, 2019 at 10:36 am
This organization really does not deserve to be playing in the NFL.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:43 am
Hey at least we aren’t the dolphins!!!! Anyone notice how they waited to the last minute to unload every good player they have so they could sell as many tickets as possible. Who would have bought season tickets in March if they knew the team was going to be gutted for draft picks and a rebuild. NFL owners are in this game for one thing $$$$$$
September 1st, 2019 at 10:43 am
He wanted to play for a SB competitor with a top five QB. At this point in his career, can you blame him? We had a long shot to no chance of picking him up…if we really wanted him.
September 1st, 2019 at 10:46 am
Pie in the sky dreamers and realists… real fans. The haters..no chance and boo hoo crowd. Better you pick up some overtime hours on Sunday, and watch mother nature. You are better off somewhere else than at the stadium, or more likely, parked in front of the TV with a six pack, watching reruns of some ’80’s sitcom.
September 1st, 2019 at 11:05 am
Nobody is coming here unless we grossly overpay and we don’t have the cap space nor do we have the potential. We got no selling points, which means its scrap heap time and hoping Licht finds another gem to offset his usual 2nd rd misses.
September 1st, 2019 at 11:23 am
Don’t need him…he’s on the decline!!
September 1st, 2019 at 11:30 am
Hahahah. I see my comment didnt make it through moderation. I will try to clean it up. Reports were 4 teams were interested. Chargers, eagles, kc and the pats. Anybody who thought he would chose the bucs over those teams when he wanted to go to a contender does not understand football. Dumbest fan base in sports

Right, Licht was clever enough to pull it off. He brought in Bruce Allen, who being rated generally as a top NFL coach by his peers, is actually vastly overrated. He has brought in a mediocre staff. He does not have a prayer of turning things around here. There will be no winning records for many more years to come.
Licht is brilliant with the smoke and mirrors. Merly a con man. Wish he was at least an average competent general manager.
September 1st, 2019 at 11:54 am
Carlos Hyde was available too….
September 1st, 2019 at 12:13 pm
There is no back that will run 1000 on this offensive line … you can bring him brown even Erik Dickerson … in their prime …. they won’t rush 1000 on this line
September 1st, 2019 at 12:15 pm
Bucs might as well pass every down because no buc back is gonna produce with these guys period
September 1st, 2019 at 12:38 pm
I’ll take Dare for the win Alex.

September 1st, 2019 at 1:09 pm
Why would McCoy, at the end of his career, come to the Bucs, when he could go to a team that has a shot of winning the super bowl?
This was a no-brainer decision. You’re an old runningback, and the coach which you had the most success under wants to bring you back in. You’ve made millions upon millions in your career, but no super bowl ring. It also happens to be that your old coach is coaching one of the best teams in the league.
Go to Tampa? With a pass-first offense and no chance at a super bowl? Please. It was never going to happen. He doesn’t care about money at this point, he wants a ring. Same reason why the Patriots always attract old veterans who are in the twilight of their career but can still contribute.
September 1st, 2019 at 2:15 pm
So shady had the Chiefs and Chargers drooling over him yet you think he would’ve chose Tampa if we had offered him a contract… You do know that free agents and their choice right?
September 1st, 2019 at 2:17 pm
My handle says it all

Being a Buc’s fan takes a special kind of patience.
September 1st, 2019 at 3:12 pm
Wouldn’t matter who they brought in. You could bring Barry Sanders in. Even he wouldn’t do jack behind the Bucs O-line. Who you kidding Joe?
September 1st, 2019 at 6:47 pm
Will be on patriots
September 3rd, 2019 at 1:05 pm
And yall wonder why we suck!! I am half a season away from leaving th bucs man no lie. We have owners that are just plain stupid and coaches that are worse. Last time i checked we won th trophy with a superb running game @ tailback & fullback. Our entire division has a running game but we dont
see the need for one. Go figure. Go bucs.
September 3rd, 2019 at 1:14 pm
You not gonna win without a decent running game.
