Too soon to tell. I’ll give him a C because this thing can go either way. I think these are the coaches to get the best out of these guys but only time will tell.
There is some talent but oline is just such a stain on this team.
OLine scares still – one injury and we are in deep kimchi
3 RB, no FB, 4 TE and only 2 of them can block
Pass protection appears suspect at best -JW will run for his life this year unless we throw a whole bunch of 3 step drops, screens, flares – a West Coast base
D definitely looks better, but the OLB crew is short of talent until JPP returns -Vea and Suh are going to be the key to our success on D – middle pressure that lets the Nassibs’ of the world get on TV
In BA I trust….kind of after this roster and pre-season
I give a d because two areas of weakness the o line and runningbacks were not addressed at all same starting 5 except for a switch at right gaurd from a guy already on roster. And runningbacks top two are the same. Let a good mlb leave in free agency only to have to spend the 5th overall pick on his replacement. If the gm has us in better cap space you tell me if we would be better off with kwon still at mlb and josh Allen at defense end opposite Nassib until jpp comes back then having Allen jpp and kwon at mlb. What would you rather have white Nassib and jpp or kwon Allen and jpp. It’s a pretty easy call unless white turns out to be a 160 tackles 8 sacks type of linebacker. There isn’t going to be much difference in white and kwon. Except one we hadtge other we spent a 5th overall pick on. That’s why we stay at the bottom tier. You had an above average mlb. Sign him and use the high pick on another area of need nope not the bucs let the guy leave for nothing and draft his replacement. Allen and kwon nope neither and just white. So in joes defense white has to be josh Allen and kwon in one player. Becasue we could have had both.
I know…82 voted in for B ?!?? What the h3ll are you all looking at? This is not a roster with B talent on it or worthy of a B. It’s barely a C frankly. Craziness.
they tell jameis it’s a make it or break it year and put a line full of pansy arses in front of him. no franchise sets their star players up to fail like the glazers.
It’s a C roster. If we had better outside pass rushers I’d give it a B. It’s going to be tough to get to 8-8. I’m not buying in to the “Bowles arrival fixed the defense” narrative. We’ve heard these all before. The SuperBowl coach Lovie, the continuity with keeping Dirk with Jameis, the “we gotta keep Mike Smith”. Now it’s keeping Licht to get Arians, and Bowles will magically fix the defense. We’ve been through the 10-6 Raheem and the 9-7 Dirk. Show me something this season and I might get my hopes up if we start 4-2 in 2020.
The two things this team lacked before are kicking and defense. Both seem to be fixed.
People are claiming the offensive line sucks…based off one preseason game. I’m not convinced it won’t get better and better as they play together.
Both lines tend to start slow. Give it a few games.
We have good QBs, WRs, RBs, TEs, DEs, CBs, Safeties, LBs, Kicker, Punter, DTs.
Not many teams can boast that. Considering everyone’s major concern is the offensive line, that’s a tiny part of this team. The rest is greatly improved.
From what I’ve seen which admittedly wasn’t much (directv customer 🤬) I’d say the dline is the strength of the team. Minter should start over white, we have zero run game and the right side of the oline is non-existent. I thought DSimth could ball but seen him get man handled way too many time for my liking. What oline man goes vegan during the season? Jameis will get hurt week 1 and play thru the pain delivering less than stellar results.
QB – Same
RB – Same
WR – Worse
TE – Same
OL – Same
DL – Worse
LB – Worse
CB – Better
S – Better
P – Worse
K – Better
WR loses D-Jax and Hump and is replaced with Miller and Bobo. Huge downgrade.
DL lost JPP and McCoy, added Suh, who as Sapp pointed out, did nothing with the Rams last year despite playing next to the defensive MVP. Huge downgrade.
LB Lost Kwon. Did replace with White, but he’s a rookie and for this year I don’t think he’s as good as Kwon. Minor short term downgrade.
CB is better simply because Ryan Smith is suspended for four weeks. Adding the rookies should be a big deal – NEXT year, but those guys drafted last year should make a difference this year. So this position is better – just talking talent, not play.
S is better simply because the God awful Chris Conte is gone.
K appears to better with the Gay kicker.
P appears to be a huge bust so far, giving big money to the worst NET punter in the NFL made no sense, and in the preseason he looks just as awful as you’d expect.
So I’d give Licht a C-, but if those rookies from last year play well this year, then that can go up still.
I do not agree Bonzai. Of course it is early and White could be a very good LB bit we witnessed other highest pucks make a splash in preseason while White was pretty much a ghost. I think that is what people are getting at. Nobody can label him a bust right now. Lol
You wouldn’t know a nfl level football player if he was sitting on your face…. you have zero standards and less credibility god have mercy on you sir….
Even after picking up an extra pick on draft day, we ignored needs on the offensive line. Then, Lichtweight gives some punter a guaranteed contract to sign here, as if he were some kind of wunderkind, instead of just holding a punter tryout like every other football team in the known universe. The result has been the worst net punting average I think I’ve ever seen, preseason or not.
Buccaneer bonzai yes is bucs fan expect rookies to come out of the gate playing lights out football they do for every other team so why should we except less. If you draft a mlb 5th overall he better be a top 5 mlb right out of the gate or it was a wasted pick. If he takes two years to be as good as our 4th round mlb pick who we let walk then it is a wasted pick. You are so brainwashed to keep giving these guys time. When every year there are 3-4 rookies who make the all pro team. The best in the league at there position. Sorry for us wanting one of the highest drafted mlb of all time to make a play or two in preseason. How dare I expect that. 5th overall is Bradley chubb last year Khalil Mack jalen Ramsey those are recent 5th overall picks. And those guys are all pros. I will wait until the seasons end to hold judgement but a person who is taken that high should make plays day one of preseason. Not let’s wait until week one of season then it will be it takes rookies a season to get it. A 5th overall pick needs to have it from day one no matter if it is preseason or regular season. I watched other preseason games of highly touted players and they stood out. So I expect the same from are high picks.
I saw Barrett make more plays on one drive than I saw our 5th overall pick make all preseason. And Barrett was playing the same so called vanilla defense. Our great first round picks over the last ten years are mike evans and mike evans and. We have a first overall pick in year 5 and us fans and not one expert knows what we have. It’s a 50/50 chance he stays or goes. But every year we hear this is the year. You have to hit on draft picks to be successful and when you do you have to lock them up. We hit on mlb in 4th round and should have locked him up a year ago for half of what he got on the open market. Josh Allen fell into are laps and we still messed it up. The jaguars are tweaking there defense to get him Campbell and nguayou on the field at the same time that’s how good he has been. We are hoping that white isn’t a liability in ours.
Again I wouldn’t call white a bust. I also wouldnt say he’s ready to start. I think white is the lessor of kwon and kwon had 1 great game with 2 not too shabbys and a bunch of omfg. Teflon Kwon.
If you can honestly say that White is outplaying Minter or that Kwon ever outplayed Minter then fine start White.
Not good when you draft a blitzing lb that gets stuffed every time he has blitzed.
QB – Same – more coached up, but close I agree
RB – Same- way more more coached up
WR – Worse – wash, DJ’s removal is a positive, Hump’s replacement is questionable
TE – Same – same, bc 4th TE will make no difference this year
OL – Same – removal of Bene is a positive, no matter what
DL – Worse – wash, better scheme negates lose of JPP
LB – Worse – better, White is better than Kwon
CB – Better – way better, just bc of scheme
S – Better – way better, just bc of change in scheme
P – Worse – same
K – Better – way better, a LOT
Gump didn’t try to address the O-line in a serious way and now that he sees what a mess it is, it’s too late. Still need a real FB for 3rd and 1 running situations. Time will tell but hopefully we have a kicker. At the end of the day, this team is a year away from being complete so Gump gets a C.
Hey Bonzai, just a gentle reminder that your most of your predictions on this team, Spence making it, the offensive line being good, the Bucs making the playoffs over the past two years, ect… have been dead wrong. Just lookin’ out buddy! 🙂

B?? Are you people crazy? B would be making the playoffs….

A grade of B or a C would indicate an upgrade. That’s what we got in reality.

B……playoffs ……..yes

Clw JB…..The 1990’s called…….They asked you to stop talking about FBs.
Joking aside that’s a good post. Valid assessment.

Virtually the same roster as last year: a 5-11 team. How anyone can think that’s a B or A grade I don’t see it.

From what I’ve seen in preseason we down graded at MLB playing the same DB and OL as last season C at best!

Gave it a “B”, but I do think Licht should lose some weight…

Torn between a C or D. Licht tipped the scales to a D.
August 31st, 2019 at 9:30 pm
I was gonna give them a C but Dotson and Benenoch drove the grade down.
August 31st, 2019 at 9:34 pm
I missed the poll…
But I would have given it a B-.
Here’s why:
The two things this team lacked before are kicking and defense. Both seem to be fixed.
People are claiming the offensive line sucks…based off one preseason game. I’m not convinced it won’t get better and better as they play together.

Oh, and btw…every year Tampa Fans expect draft picks to produce out of the gate…it rarely happens that way, so coming down on White is just ignorant.

The only starter drafted this year is a gay kicker!
Half of those picks shouldn’t have even made the team.
They passed on some perennial All-Pros to get these scrubs.
Gump made up for horrific draft picks by making some ingenious personnel moves. NOT!!
I just hope Biscuit and Boles can make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
Gumps next job should be dogcatcher because I like dogs and he’d fail miserably at that too. Or Tax collector.
