Booty Call
August 30th, 2019A couple of teams need some booty. That is, need a kicker. And it seems the Bucs may fill their needs.
The Bucs, as strange as this sounds, have a surplus of kickers. So much so that suddenly, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht has become popular among general managers who need a kicker.
Today in his day-after presser, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians was asked about kickers. He admitted the Bucs are getting calls (plural) from teams looking to see if the Bucs are willing to trade one.
Arians said the Bucs are getting calls not just for kickers, but other players as well. Arians didn’t offer any specifics like which kicker, Cairo Santos or Matt Gay, might be available or for how much.
How wild is it that other teams actually want a Bucs kicker? We are living in bizarre times, folks.

Pretty sure no one would even try to trade for a rookie we just spent a fifth round pick on. If we can get anything for the other that would be great.
August 30th, 2019 at 1:03 pm
I actually have been thinking Cameron Brate could be trade bait. He’s hardly played at all in the preseason and we have plenty of depth at the position. We simply have too many other needs and this would free up cap space
August 30th, 2019 at 1:27 pm
I heard the Steelers were asking about Tanner Hudson. I hope we don’t let him go.
August 30th, 2019 at 1:34 pm
Bucs need Oline, Oline, Oline!!!! As much as I like Brate, he’s expensive and everyone can be replaced.
August 30th, 2019 at 1:39 pm
Brate may be considered damaged goods.
But a Brate/Santos for a solid OL trade would be tempting.
August 30th, 2019 at 1:55 pm
O line or DE trades only. Otherwise I’d try to keep both kickers to start the season. Once we are certain Gay is our kicker then trade or release Santos.
August 30th, 2019 at 1:56 pm
Santos, Brate, Barber and Benenoch all on the block if I had to guess.
August 30th, 2019 at 1:56 pm
Wow strange times indeed! Think it’s Bears, Falcons, Panthers asking about a kicker. Let’s squeeze out something good if we can especially if it’s a division rival. Also with Hudson’s performance I would be fine to move on from Brate. Personally I think he’s overpaid, especially as a #2.
August 30th, 2019 at 2:02 pm
I would be strongly against trading Brate on the assumption that Tanner Hudson, a tight end who looked good against 3rd and 4th stringers, will be good enough to replace him.
Not to mention O.J. has been injury prone thus far. Brate is more reliable.
By this time next year, we may consider OJ a bust for health reasons.
August 30th, 2019 at 2:13 pm
Trade David instead. The time is right.
August 30th, 2019 at 2:14 pm
Seriously – keep 2 kickers in case Gay doesn’t work out? Roster space is a premium and having a healthy scratch every week would be nuts. The kid tanks or fades, take the best off the couch.
August 30th, 2019 at 2:15 pm
BucBeliever, Brate is our most productive TE. OJ doesn’t come close.
August 30th, 2019 at 2:20 pm
i’d trade brate, santos and LVD…..
trade LVD for a starting oline and a pick….trade brate and santos for picks….
GO BUCS!!!!!
August 30th, 2019 at 2:20 pm
hudson can sort of be viewed a a big rumbling wide receiver at this point…if used correctly he is dangerous…he’s no blocking tight end at this point, but a rumbling slot guy or in a stacked receiver set – to do brate and humphries type dirty work – it’s a good fit for him…bruce will figure it out…he’s a weapon of mass destruction right now
August 30th, 2019 at 2:24 pm
bruce anderson literally could be our number one rb at this point as well…gotta keep him and let bruce’s guy, ellington, lay in the weeds on the free agent market until we are dinged up enough to pick him back up…arians and company haven’t fooled anyone with keeping anderson under the rader…the fact is he is not under the radar at all and teams are salivating over that dude…his one cut and go downhill is as good, if not better than all backs we already have…he won’t last on the practice squad for a single day
August 30th, 2019 at 2:27 pm
packaging brate and santos for ol help might just be a smart move…dumping peyton barber could do it as well…we need 1 quality offensive lineman without a doubt…plus more…but 1 quality lineman is needed dearly and a sacrificial lamb is in order
August 30th, 2019 at 2:33 pm
Not sure why anyone would trade for a guy about to be released, other than fear that someone else picks him up…
On another note New England has traded for three OL this week. Oh to have a real FO….
August 30th, 2019 at 2:53 pm
Is there any bid for Jason Einstein Licht? Ill trade him for whatever they give me…..
August 30th, 2019 at 3:01 pm
Throw in Brate and get a top tier o-lineman.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:17 pm
Why would you keep Santos? So you could keep a kicker who blew 2 easy fg’s in 2nd Saints game last year and waste a draft pick on Gay?
August 30th, 2019 at 3:21 pm
Booty Call —- thought for sure the headline was an article about cancer93’s history of giving up the booty to every visiting team for nearly a decade…
August 30th, 2019 at 3:22 pm
no one is going to trade for brate he has a horrible contract and even worse hips… only the bucs waste draft pics and cash on mediocre injury prone gambles.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:30 pm
Bonzai- That’s a trade that makes sense. Which, is why we’ll wait until he’s 36 and can’t get a bologna sandwich (no cheese!)for him!
re: See GMC!!!
August 30th, 2019 at 3:34 pm
Santos has some value…..perhaps a 7th rounder…….teams don’t want to compete for him on the open FA market.
Brate has value…..so does Hudson……I would keep Hudson over Brate…..younger/cheaper…..
Another player that teams may want is Devante Bond…
Auclair has value…..
Let’s do some deals, Jason!!!
August 30th, 2019 at 4:49 pm
Trade Brate to the Redskins for Trent Williams
August 30th, 2019 at 5:06 pm
Alan bucs,
Help me out, I don’t recall Santos missing two FGA ‘s in that game. I’m sure that He was 2 for 2, no misses. You sure it was the saints game?
August 30th, 2019 at 5:06 pm
Good post Joe, we need all the draft capital we can get!
August 30th, 2019 at 5:24 pm
Bucs finally find a good kicker capable of possibly hitting a 70 yarder and they trade him before he ever plays a regular season game.
That would be a bucs move
August 30th, 2019 at 6:16 pm
Trade whoever, except Gay (we finally have a kicker!!!!!), for whatever we can get to help our O line….deep at LB, TE, and WR!
TRENCHES TRENCHES TRENCHES….HOLY HELL MAN!!!
If we trot what showed up onto the field against the Browns every game, we’re in deep doo doo. Granted, i know the Browns prolly have a top 3 pass rush, but that was just downright fugly!
August 30th, 2019 at 7:26 pm
Hudson is a good receiver but is a terrible blocker. With our questionable as OLine Brate and Howard are going to help a lot in the run blocking.
August 30th, 2019 at 9:32 pm
Really ????? Then there had better be o line help coming in . Because Brate and even a seventh should surely land a good o lineman . Same within j Evans , Whitehead, David etc etc etc !!! Oh Ya Cappa And Dotson And Jensen can go with the package also . Dotsons Salary is very Attractive
August 31st, 2019 at 8:37 am
Trade Smith for Trent Williams. I don’t know why no one mentions this, it is so obvious. The only reason it is doable is bc Williams refuses to play for the Skins. We get an upgrade at LT and Washington fills their need. And salaries are a wash.
