Domino Effect At Safety?
August 30th, 2019In the days leading up to last night’s game in Dallas to end the preseason, the Bucs had hoped to get starting safety Justin Evans back on the field.
Evans, who Sunday returned to practice after battling foot and leg issues since last December, had what appears to be a small setback.
Penciled in for snaps last night in an effort to get him up to speed and maybe play in the season opener a week from Sunday, Evans instead was held out by Bucco Bruce Arians and his staff.
Why? Another injury. A sore Achilles, Bucco Bruce Arians said last night after the game.
So who knows how long this sets Evans back? An Achilles is nothing to monkey around with.
Rookie safety Mike Edwards is hurt — we should learn more when the season’s first injury report comes out Wednesday — and he didn’t make the trip to Dallas if his Instagram page is a tip. So who knows how long he is out?
Evans’ new injury combined with Edwards’ status could mean bad news for one bubble guy on the Bucs roster. It wouldn’t surprise Joe if, along with offensive linemen, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht goes shopping this weekend for a safety from among the 1,000+ players who will be thrown out of work.
And if the Bucs need a body or bodies until Evans and Edwards are good to go, that likely means a guy or guys who otherwise would have made the team will get sent packing.

That does suck. But they can also slap players on injury lists and voila! Problem solved.
In BA I Trust!

Seems like there have been an inordinate amount of injuries this preseason all across the league. I think either this year or next will be the last we see of four preseason games.

Prob should just pup the guy and keep an extra guy like isaiah in the meantime

I suspect a couple of OLs will be first on his list.

Seems like y’all want him gone.. doubtful though. Effective player when healthy and just took him a couple years ago with a 2nd round pick. Doubt Licht wants another blow to his past 2nd round picks. No ties to Arians and his regime but Licht and Arians are friends im not so sure Evans gets cut

Evans shows a ton of potential when healthy. I don’t get the hate for the guy. Casual Fans™, I guess.
No part of the body takes the immense physical forces as the feet and ankles. I don’t read too much into holding him out in a meaningless game on turf, especially after just coming back after a long layoff.
I would be shocked if he’s not on the roster, even if in a PUP or on-the-shelf/inactive capacity.
I am more concerned about the hammy of Edwards.

Don’t know how Evans can keep hurting his foot, he hasn’t played in forever, and last week was the first time he practiced all year. I know, he must have re injured his foot putting his walking boot on! Cut bait with that China Doll already. So far he’s made a hansom living on IR, enough to retire the rest of his life. What a waste. Stop the madness of paying him to be a pro rehaber.

Evans should go on IR or be cut & Isiah should make the team in his place. Even though injured Edwards will make the team.

I doubt they will cut Evans….they may put him on PUP or IR…..but shouldn’t cut him.
Have no idea the extent of injury to Edwards……troubling….

evans will not get cut,he is are best db when healthy, just like jpp is are best player when healthy.

“Another injury. A sore Achilles”
Not sure a sore achilles counts as “another injury” Joe.
Just a continuation of what J Evans has been dealing with all off season which has been reported as a heel injury. The achilles tendon attaches to (grounds itself via) the heel so……
