“He’s My Guy”
August 24th, 2019Former Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter used to say the Bucs had three true No. 1 receivers.
Yes, the Bucs were overflowing with weapons last season.
Obviously, Mike Evans was the top-dog No. 1, and DeSean Jackson and Chris Godwin were the others.
Jackson was traded and now Godwin is primed to shine and his strong preseason continued against the Browns last night. Evans was inactive with a (minor?) injury and Godwin had the full attention of the Cleveland defense.
No problem.
Godwin had four catches for 52 yards in half a game, and he flashed his sure hands and yards-after-catch ability again.
“He’s my guy,” Jameis Winston said after the game.
“Chris, to me, is a No. 1 [receiver],” Arians added.
Workman–like Godwin said staying methodical will be a major key for him and Jameis.
“It is just really something we work on at practice. That is all we really have to do, don’t have to go out there and try and do anything spectacular, nothing over the top,” Godwin said. “We just have to play like we have been practicing and have everything fall into place for us.”

Everyone who puts in the time with Jameis is successful. See Brate, Hump and Mike Evans.

You know it was a good night for Godwin (4-52) when he beats out Tanner Hudson (4-49).

FAMOUS had good QB play last nite … hitting a number of receivers “in stride” !!! This O/Line “as is” will be the weakest part of the team!! GO BUCS GO FAMOUS GO SUHY !!! WAKE THE F$&K-UP O/LINE!!

Jameis still doesn’t know his limits though, he can’t hit the deep ball, so stay underneath to intermediate and keep drives alive

You have to throw the deep ball to keep the DBs honest. If you stop throwing deep the DBs start jumping your routes. That’s why we needed Jackson,to keep teams honest.

The Browns d line is ELITE. Thank the Eagles for that and giving up WAAAAY too much, for a mediocre wentz, in the process. I’m NEVER as impressed as these know it all “qb gurus”. Just like John Elway never impressed me….UNTIL Terrell Davis arrived. Add Baker to the list of sophomore slumps. He’s going to be PAINFUL to watch. The Browns could, and SHOULD, have had Deshaun Watson at a #10 pick. WOW!!!!!! So, ESSENTIALLY, philly and Cleveland both should have had Deshaun for about $30-50 mil less than their current projects…and Jameis is better than ALL 3. Get this man some nasty linemen. Patch it together. The Eagles have backups better than ANY Buc lineman. That’s inexcusable. One started left tackle in the super bowl when Jason Peters was injured. Vaitai.

Koetter couldn’t utilize Jackson. No need in having him if you don’t put him in the slot and drive defenses insane. And Jameis throws a good deep ball he just won’t throw it up for grabs anymore. And NO qb throws a good deep ball with d linemen in their chest every play. This isn’t Madden, GOOFBALLS!!! A “fade” or seam is the EASIEST throw in football and Jameis does above average when given time. Carson wentz either has a batted ball or an overthrown fade and, yet, he’s AMAZING. I’m sure. 🙈🙈🤣🤣😂😂 because he missed a read, stumbled around, (before the injury) and improvised where it wasn’t needed. And, IMO, Mike Evans can’t hold Alshon’s jock. Alshon is just a qb’s dream receiver. Mike plays soft for his size. He flashes greatness whereas Alshon makes it look easy every game. That means something too.

3rd year receivers are always primed for breakout anyway.
Just something to the confidence/experience year 3.
This dude is gonna EXPLODE on the scene this year.
Think Reggie Wayne eclipsing Harrison.
Student becomes the master.
This could be the year Godwin outgains ME #13.

Where we get it wrong in so many areas, we sure know how to scout TEs and WRs. Godwin has the potential to be an absolute stud. His routes are crisp, his hands are strong, he has a second gear and doesn’t go down on first contact. The best part, he’s as ‘blue collar’ as a WR can be— there’s seemingly nothing but effort and hard work driving him. How can he not be on the top of everyone’s favorite Bucs list!?!?

Tval says:
“and Jameis is better than ALL 3.” (meaning Mayfield, Watson and Wentz)
Made me chuckle a little bit!
