Mike Evans Dinged
August 19th, 2019Mike Evans didn’t practice today at One Buc Palace, and Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians isn’t sure if he will play against the Browns Friday night.
As we know, Ronald Jones also sat out practice the past two days with what Arians called a “sore knee.” It could have happened on this play.
Evans’ injury is a bit more mysterious. Since it is preseason, teams are not obligated to offer injury reports or discuss them. Eduardo Encina of the Tampa Bay Times writes that Evans, after catching a deep pass Sunday, left practice clutching his “left quad area” and he hasn’t practiced since.
Arians stated today that he isn’t sure if Evans would play Friday, though Jones may. Scotty Miller did return to practice in a limited form from is hamstring injury today.
The way Joe looks at it, these preseason games shouldn’t be played. Evans is the best player on the roster. He shouldn’t have to snap on a chin strap in a game until the 49ers come to town.

Last phrase totally agreed.
August 19th, 2019 at 1:42 pm
Man we need to buy a bunch of bubble wrap at this point.
August 19th, 2019 at 1:43 pm
Please be ok Mike
August 19th, 2019 at 1:44 pm
Shut Mike down now! What does he have to learn or prove? Get him ready for the games that count.
August 19th, 2019 at 1:46 pm
yeah, wtf is our potential starting running back returning kicks in the preseason, esp in the rain, when he’s not the most graceful dude to begin with. so dumb.
August 19th, 2019 at 1:51 pm
I dunno, a player can get injured in the bath tub. Most of all of the Bucs injuries happened in practice, are we going to to not practice? The rip off is charging full price for a preseason game. I agree they shouldn’t do that, but if I had to choose between no football and preseason football, I’d choose preseason football.

It gets old seeing some of the best players in the NFL be lost for the season in these meaningless games.
I get the “game speed” thing, but this is his second potential injury situation in three weeks. Shut him down. Floppy hat patrol until opening day.

Practices can be scripted to the point where they near emulate games (in addition to joint practices). Bubble-wrap nearly every starter and don’t buy into the hogwash that says the 3rd preseason game is important. Anyone other than the youngsters and depth/bubble players should stay off of the field.

Mike Evens with a ding is no big worry.
He is a proven durable player. Freak accidents are always possible in football but with a guy like Mike you don’t gotta worry for the most part.
The best part of this article is Scotty Miller getting preped to play. Our receiving depth has not looked so hot this preseason. If Miller can come in and produce it would be a much welcomed addition.

I’d love to see Mike out there for a meaningless game……I love them guys that wanna be out there no matter what. Just cause they love football!!!
But agreed……Cut the preseason games. If teams need more work they can schedule more joint practices behind the scenes. I have little desire to watch roster cuts for 2 1/2 hours & real football for twenty mins.

I hoped BA would hold out all first-team talent from that horrible rain-soaked field. Why risk the inevitable injuries? They got in plenty of great work during the week.
August 19th, 2019 at 2:14 pm
I guess we’ll get to see what our offense looks like without Mike…..
August 19th, 2019 at 2:30 pm
Bubble-wrap him!
August 19th, 2019 at 2:48 pm
Have seen a lot of teams in preseason not even dressing their starters
August 19th, 2019 at 2:53 pm
Agree with all, just sit the man… he’s a proven talent and the best player on our team, no need to risk injury.
August 19th, 2019 at 3:35 pm
At this rate by seasons start we will be dumpster diving with other teams waiver wires.
August 19th, 2019 at 3:45 pm
this may be good –this makes it necessary to sideline him till 49r’s are here there by keeping him from a more serious injury
August 19th, 2019 at 4:01 pm
I wonder if the thrown ball was another Apples McGoo jump ball.
August 19th, 2019 at 4:33 pm
Was the first or 2nd play of the game
Jameis threw it high
August 19th, 2019 at 4:36 pm
I wonder if PITTSHORE has anything better to do then always trolling our QB. WE GET IT BRO YOUR NOT A FAN OF#3 get over it already
August 19th, 2019 at 4:56 pm
He will be fine
August 19th, 2019 at 5:18 pm
Evans is 100% fine, BA needs to see his bubble WRs out there with the top guys to best evaluate. Yawn.
August 19th, 2019 at 7:02 pm
Gotta believe the 2 pre season, 18 regular is the future of the league – how many stars are getting dinged in the extended practice season year after year
Expand the rosters by 6 to 8 players and get rid of half the stupid PS games that no one goes to or cares a sniff about
August 19th, 2019 at 7:16 pm
The way Joe looks at it, these preseason games shouldn’t be played.
———————————
Why not? And kindly explain how a team will be able to evaluate new players and know who to cut? ME13 can sit until the first regular season game. He’s proven himself.
August 19th, 2019 at 8:42 pm
Orlbucfan,
To answer your question. Practice.
August 19th, 2019 at 8:54 pm
Watching the 49ers game you Bucs receivers need to be aware of these guys going low when they tackle you. Fant just got tackled low and he looks hurt. Trying to fight for more yards hope hes ok. Ota pre season.
August 19th, 2019 at 9:22 pm
Jimmy Jack, I like your philosophy of a football player. That was basically my response when Jameis and the new receivers were told to back off their off-season work. They’re football players. It’s what they do. They want to be on the field every chance they get. The young guys, however, do need the in-game reps. We know Evans is gonna be ready Week 1.
