1-And-Done For The Bucs’ First-Team Offense

August 16th, 2019

Quick hook by Bucco Bruce Arians

Aren’t you glad you paid full price?

It’s a new offensive system for Jameis Winston and friends but through two preseason games, the first-team offense has seen just two series. One last week against Pittsburgh and one wrapped up early in the first quarter tonight at the Den of Depression.

The Bucs had a balanced drive to the Dolphins-27, and then it fell apart, capped by America’s Quarterback taking an ill-advised sack that led to fourth-down from the Dolphins-41.

In came the punt team and out went the offense.

Peyton Barber had two carries for five yards. Ronald Jones was inconsistent with the first-teamers — one strong, 10-yard run and one that saw him stop running and lose three yards. RoJo also missed badly on a pass block.

Jameis finished 2-for-4 for 24 yards and no deep balls attempted.

Welcome to preseason football. Things should get better next week for the “dress rehearsal” game at home against the Browns.

I am gonna put those 2 sacks on the OL not the QB. Dude had zero time on either. Did not get out of the tackle box on the first sack so he couldn’t just chunk in OOB and never was able to get clean enough to set his feet at all. Garbage OL play.

Won’t be the last time I type that this season…

  2. Daniel Says:

Don’t understand it, new system to learn. I would have figured at least a quarter of play for the starters.

  3. tmaxcon Says:

That oline will have jameis and toto dead and buried by week 6

  4. Figures Says:

This o line is a joke.
If you think it’s bad now just wait till they play the real games.

  5. Figures Says:

I don’t think anyone in charge knows how to build a team.

  6. Unimpressed Says:

    ZZZZzzZzzzZZzzzZZZZzzZZzzZzzzZzz

  7. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    That was ugly

  8. TonyC Says:

BA is not a GM he’s a coach but because Mr. Licht is so incompetent BA had to take that job as well and here are the results.

  9. Figures Says:

    @tony

You’re right. Licht has literally zero idea what he’s doing. And people actually believe this is a 10 win team with what that moron has put on the field.

  10. TonyC Says:

    Play Ryan Griffin for godsakes.

  11. Lamarcus Says:

Joe blaming every one but that trash oline

  12. Buc believer Says:

I am at the game a Benenoch needs to be cut TONIGHT! He literally gave up on his guy right in front of me and the spun around and gave him a little pansy push before he sacked Gabbert and then we had to settle for a field goal. Why this arse clown was even allowed to come back after the puke show of last year is beyond me!!! CUT HIM BRUCE!!!

  13. Dom>Licht Says:

One of the highest paid OL … Licht does not have a clue. Wasted so many picks on DB and ignored OL …. OH by the way Greedy looks so much better than any of the DB we drafted

  14. Jean Lafitte Says:

It wasn’t RoJo who missed on the pass block. It was Ellington. and on RoJo’s 2nd carry he was hit 3 yards behind the los

  15. A Train Says:

I have been wondering why the Bucs flatly refuse to build a good offensive line. Regardless of the regime in Tampa Bay, it must be an edict from the Glazers, “we will never have a good offensive line.”

  16. Aaron Says:

That’s the JW I hate…ur in FG range….you cant take a sake. We cant pay
$30 mil a year for a QB to not realize that

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“capped by America’s Quarterback taking an ill-advised sack”

Actually, watch it again. Regardless of what Ronde said, Jameis had no choice.

Also, the oline was not the starters on the bad plays. Smith was replaced with Boozer, for example. During the first series. Several times.

  18. Buc in Nashville Says:

    Aaron:

the fact that there is no possible way to accidentally type “sake” when you meant “sack” means I am putting zero weight on your opinion.

    Hashtag Florida Man indeed.

  19. BucsBandit Says:

  21. Rob Tanner Says:

    Come on Bucs finish strong.

  22. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

    *Hot lol

  23. Ed Kerber Says:

    Gay is our man!

  24. Magadude Says:

Good enough. Got to protect Winston better but he did his job (short of that first overthow), and the running game looked good ahead. Not as good as last week, and don’t like to see them stall…but could have been much worse.

  25. OrlandoBob Says:

    But Tom Moore!

  26. Calm down Says:

    It’s just preseason calm down!

  27. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

    No shart calm down!

  28. firethecannons Says:

taking a sack is better than a regurgitated fumble or throwing to mike evans in quadruple coverage –seen those plenty put blame where it belongs –offensive line needs work or they need an adjustment on their give a shat meter

  29. SteveK Says:

Don’t take a sack there. Throw it for an incompletion and take the three points. Scoring more points, by not taking a sack in that instance, is what we needed in order to win.

  30. Broy34 Says:

All throughout his career people have been saying take the sack. He takes the sack and now they’re saying throw an incompletion…goodness nobody wants to drop out of field goal range but it happens all the time. Anything but a pick there (or a fumble)

  31. Tampabucfan88 Says:

I watch the game and that was not an ill advised sack tbh It was going to happen in fact that was the best outcome cause he had oj open but if dot would’ve blocked the OSLB he would came though clean and he would have oj open for a nice gain but instead dot missed his man Jamies protected the ball instead of fumbling the ball that would have lead to the fin having it in buc territory or a pick six So what u want him to do throw the ball where it could be a TD or in FG or a pick six or a fumble or take the sack make the fins drive with our revamped defense

  32. D-Rome Says:

It’s a crime that people pay full price for that “game.” I was in the comfort of my own home and I couldn’t bear watching the second half. I figured I’ll let JoeBucsFan do all the work for me.

  33. Dapostman Says:

If Winston would have thrown the ball away instead of taking that sack early the WDS simpletons would be howling, see he’s not accurate. Fact!

  34. A Train Says:

I have never been a big fan of Winston, but it would be nice to see him run an offense with a decent line and a running game. He has never had either to work with and I just do not understand the apparent aversion the Bucs ownership/GM has to drafting good lineman and developing a good line.
