Ronde Barber: “Dominant” Vita Vea

August 16th, 2019

Alex Cappa’s having a great summer, locking down the right guard job. Ndamukong Suh is a terror, and Vita Vea was “dominant” before his injury.

So whose asses are these guys woopin’?

This was a subject that arose in the Ira Kaufman Podcast today. Ronde Barber was heard there calling note tackle Vea “dominant,” naming him the stud of training camp with respect given to Vernon Hargreaves.

“He was having the best camp of anybody,” Barber added about Vea.

Joe noted several times this spring that Vea looked like he returned for his second season with a new level of fitness and desire. He looked like a guy who would make that second-season leap.

But again when considering this, Joe has to ask about the other side. Who is Vea beating regularly? It’s not like he participated in joint practices.

Joe’s been told from true Bucs insiders how great Suh has looked at the other defensive tackle. Great! Who is he putting a hurt on, especially considering Cappa is playing solid football? Is big-bucks center Ryan Jensen having that difficult of a time?

No, Joe’s not cracking on Jensen, just illustrating that shining — or sucking — in camp is always a very slipperly slope.

It’s definitely the time of year when fans are extra yearning for a real game.

Tonight at the Den of Depression, the Bucs likely will play the worst team in the NFL on a soggy field in their preseason opener. And Bruce Arians isn’t expecting much time from his starters.

Enjoy the football. But don’t strain yourself trying to figure out what it really means for the big picture. It’s not worth too much effort.

DB55…………I’m in Treasure Island for a week. Let’s grab a beer.

  2. unbelievable Says:

They’re probably dominating our tackles lol. And Jensen.

Hopefully Marpet is standing strong- haven’t heard much about him this offseason.

    SB

How was the trip from Montana?…..hope you enjoy your stay in TPA……

I will travel from NC to TPA for the Arizona game this year……

  4. NOSBOS Says:

All I know is when week 1 comes around and all three Beastie Boys Suh,Vea and JPP are together all h3ll is going to break loose. Notes from other site noted Bucs D line manhandled fins O line during joint sessions. This tell me not only are elite when it comes to the 1st teams there but our backups Nunez-Rohes and Ledbetter are doing they thang as well.

  5. Bobbo Says:

They are destroying those ugly tackling dummies

  6. LordCornelius Says:

All I know is Vea was dominant playing other teams to end last year.

Suh has been dominant all his career.

RG was our weakest spot last year.

So this is all good news IMO. If Cappa is/was holding his own with those guys that’s a pretty damn good litmus test.

Same thing with the secondary. We know our WRs & TEs are proven in this league to be dominant. If the secondary is keeping up that’s another good sign.

No need to overthink it too much but god I am ready for week 1 lol

    GO BUCS!

  7. Leighroy Says:

NOSBOS better wait till like week 14 for his Beastie Boys concert….

  8. Doctor_berto Says:

Who cares how dominant he is if he can’t get on the field

  9. Barbosa Says:

Hoping to see more of the depth players show something in these next 3 games. Everything else besides injuries doesn’t mean jack.

  10. BringBucsBack Says:

Vea may not be but, Hargreaves has been participating in “joint practices” for years!

  11. BringBucsBack Says:

…The Dolphins; one of the worst teams in the league? They added a lot of talent this off-season. At 5-whatever, what are we?

  12. NOSBOS Says:

😊naah Leighroy,September 8 when that concert happens. Can’t wait for the squad to give some of these fools something else to talk about..

“Notes from other site noted Bucs D line manhandled fins O line during joint sessions”

Sadly, I remember Swaggy Baker ragging the Jaguars O line because our D Line was rag dolling them during a joint practice. The Jags O Line played solid all year. Our D Line – well, it was eating ice cream and humping palm trees.

BringBucsBack…do you need a medical marijuana card?

  15. geno711 Says:

That is why scrimmages against other teams are even more important than the pre-season games. Coaches can work on situation plays against the other teams and see how their players line up when the other guys are trying to show against your team.

I hope the change BA makes next year is that we have two or three weeks with scrimmages against other teams.

Then we can all assess whether Vea, Hargreaves, or Suh are really balling or just looking good against an inferior player on their own team.

  16. Chris K Says:

Time for me to sound like some other jackasses. Derwin James is injury prone! 😁. See how dumb that sounds people?

  17. NOSBOS Says:

74 I personally choose not to live in the past, it has so very little bearing on my future. My future is predicated on the thoughts I project from my mind right here right now.

  18. BucEmUp Says:

If JPP and Vea can both get healthy just think about that. We would have

    JPP
    Vita Vea
    Carl Nassib
    Suh

THATS A SCARY FRIEKING LINE MAN!!!!!!!!!!

Then, David and White with a bunch of promising corners playing press. Safety is banged up right now but hopefully they get healthy there soon. There is huge potential for a top 10 defense here easily.

  19. Leighroy Says:

NOSBOS I’m with you man and can’t wait for it either! But one Beastie got a jacked-up neck out indefinitely and the other boy sprained his knee out for 6-8 weeks. You got a LONG wait brother.

The only concert your gunna get for now is a view from section 136 of some hype-man style towel waving….

  20. D1 Says:

    Bucemup,

Have you read anything re. JPP ‘s possible return?

And yes I agree. On paper, this defense has promise. Gotta stay injury free , especially at the start of the season .

  21. Sydney Says:

But who really believes JPP will be back this season, if ever?

Vea will miss at least 4 games. Again.

    Suh’s a run stopper first.

    Nassib position switch.

Spence is a one trick pony with no counter move yet.

Seriously, who will rush the passer with any consistency?

  22. Neal a Sissons Says:

Joe you realize they can do well in camp without the guys across from them doing poorly? it’s not mutually exclusive. In fact if the guys across from them were playing poorly they wouldn’t be “dominating” anything. They would just be exposing poor play. If they were just beating one guy over and over they wouldn’t be talking about them dominating. Sometimes i feel like you jump past the most logical explanation and start reading into things that don’t even make sense.

  23. Ndog Says:

Ah good old Joe take a positive and find the negative.

  24. SmoothBayRider Says:

Derwin James out indefinitely with a stress fracture . Where are all the fanboys ?

  25. orlbucfan Says:

Hope Suh doesn’t get kicked out of a game cos of his temper. Bucs sign him to a 1 year contract? Big deal.

  26. Isaac haggins Says:

Havnt heard a thing about Beckner Jr…….. I actually thought he was a real nice 7 th rounder , now that is a 7 th rounder but he has some skill !!! Hell maybe he s hurt and I missed it or just not doing much , which I kinda thought he had a chance ??

  27. BucEmUp Says:

sydney had nassib started full time and olayed as many snaps as jpp…..

  28. BucEmUp Says:

smooth bay rider exactly….they think only kason licht picks get injured.

  29. Colonel_MP Says:

Please allow me to copy edit. This is happening way too much. It doesn’t look good when it happens so often. Or is it on purpose?

  30. ocala Says:

I wanted the Bucs to draft Derwin James, but it looks like Vea may be on the brink of a breakout season, while it was just reported that Derin James is out for the year.
