Tuesday Training Camp Notes, Nuggets & Happenings

Dolphins linebacker Terrance Smith talks it up with his former Florida State teammate, Jameis Winston, today during the Bucs-Dolphins joint practice at One Buc Palace.
Fans of both the Bucs and Dolphins filled the stands today at One Buc Place as the teams had the first of two joint practices in the morning. There were quite a few highlights and manbeast JoeBucsFan.com intern Zachary Seifter took a lot of notes with an emphasis on the trenches. Here they are:
*A battle of the trenches gets underway as Caleb Benenoch stands up defensive end Nate Orchard from Miami.
*Donovan Smith lines up against Jonathon Ledbetter (not sure if he’s related to Bucs defensive lineman Jeremiah Ledbetter) and doesn’t give him an inch. Smith dominates him completely.
*On the other side of the field, Buccaneers WR’s face off against the Dolphins DB’s in 1-on-1 matchups. Each play brings a roar from the crowd, with Bucs fans yelling in delight every time a Buc makes a play and Dolphins fans making noise when one of their players makes a play.
*On Field B, the Bucs defensive line faces off against Miami’s O-line.
*Laremy Tunsil of the Dolphins completely overmatched Kahzin Daniels, as the OLB can’t get any push moving to his right.
*Bucs defensive lineman Jeremiah Ledbetter gets shaken up during the drill.
*11-on-11 kicks off as the first team offense of the Bucs faces the first team defense of Miami on Field A. The first team defense of the hometown team faces the Dolphins’ first-string offense on Field B.
*The offense gets things started with a couple of rushing plays. The line gets good push as Peyton Barber and RoJo find space to move forward for decent gains.
*On Field B, Dolphins QB FitzMagic runs a play-action fake and fires a slant pass to receiver Isaiah Ford, who beats Carlton Davis for the completion.
*Ex-Arizona Cardinal Josh Rosen comes in and gets pressured from both sides by Noah Spence and Carl Nassib. He underthrows his intended receiver badly for the incompletion.
*Back on Field A, the Bucs continue to run the ball as Dare Ogunbowale takes the handoff from Blaine Gabbert. The second team O-line doesn’t get much push and Ogunbowale is stopped at the line of scrimmage.
*Both teams move to Field B as kickoff drills get underway.
*7-on-7 work gets going on Field A and the Bucs defensive linemen move to Field B. Ndamukong Suh blasts by Deion Calhoun of Miami, getting serious push before throwing him aside.
*Noah Spence faces Tunsil two times. The first time, Tunsil emulates a brick wall as Spence gets no penetration, The second time Spence uses a quick inside swim move to get past Tunsil.
*Back on Field A, the Bucs O-line once again goes 1-on-1 against the Miami defensive line. The second team O-line once again struggles to contain the defensive linemen of Miami.
*The horn blows and the team moves back to Field B for more kickoff drills.
*While on the sideline, Demar Dotson looks to be having a lighthearted conversation with Bucs assistant head coach/run game coordinator Harold Goodwin.
*More 11-on-11 and Jameis Winston runs a play-action fake and finds Barber on the check down for a solid gain. The offensive line held up, giving Jameis plenty of time to throw.
*On the next play, Jameis goes deep down the right sideline looking for RoJo but just overthrows him.
*The first team offensive line is getting a ton of push today, as a large gap is opened up for Barber. He hits the hole and goes for 15 yards and a first down.
*Back on Field B, FitzMagic is back under center. He takes the snap, gets flushed out of the pocket and is sacked by Kevin Minter!
*A Sean Murphy-Bunting sighting! FitzMagic throws a quick screen pass to his receiver on the left side. Murphy-Bunting sees it and is able to push the receiver that is blocking him into the ball carrier, knocking him down out of bounds for no gain.
*Rosen comes in and on the first play he hands the ball off to Kalen Ballage. Ballage makes a quick cut to the left and finds a hole for a nice gain. Nice push from the Miami offensive line.
*Rosen goes deep for DeVante Parker. Parker beats Vernon Hargreaves down the left sideline to haul in a 40-yard bomb from Rosen.
*Back on Field A, red zone work gets started as the Bucs offense sets up inside the 20.
*Jameis gives the ball to Barber on the first play. Barber maneuvers his way through traffic to get 6 yards.
*On the next play, Jameis holds the ball a bit too long and the O-line breaks down, allowing a sack. Bucco Bruce Arians is visibly unhappy.
*Jameis sets up in the shotgun. He lasers a pass between two defenders to Breshad Perriman in the corner of the end zone but Perriman lets the ball slip through his fingers. Incomplete.
*Blaine Gabbert comes in and starts off shaky. He had Bobo Wilson open in the endzone on a deep slant but badly overthrows him. Good protection from the offensive line afforded him the time to make the throw but he just misses on it.
*It’s time for a live scrimmage! Both teams head to the sidelines on Field A as the Dolphins first-team offense sets up at their own 30-yard line.
*On 1st and 10, FitzMagic drops back to pass, he fires but the ball is batted down by William Gholston. An illegal formation penalty is called.
*1st and 15: Fitz throws a screen to his tight end that is quickly stopped by the Buccaneer defense.
*2nd and long. Fitz fires a shot over the middle to the Buccaneers 45 and completes it for a first down.
*False start again.
*1st and 15 at midfield. Fitz looks over the middle again but has his pass knocked away by Deone Bucannon.
*2nd and 15: Fitz goes deep over the middle, looking for Kenny Stills but overthrows him. Stills has M.J. Stewart beaten badly.
*3rd and 15: Fitz finds Preston Williams on the left sideline for a 16-yard completion and a first down.
*1st and 10 at the 34-yard line of Tampa Bay. Fitz tried to dump the ball off to Ballage on a short crossing route, but Devin White is there to knock it away.
*2nd and 10: Fitz finds Ballage this time in the flat and he takes the ball to the 24-yard line for a first down.
*1st and 10. Bucs showing blitz. They drop back but Fitz hits Parker over the middle at the 16-yard line.
*2nd and 2. Fitz badly overthrows tight end Mike Gesicki over the middle and hits a fan in the stomach with his pass.
*3rd and 2. Fitz looks for Isaiah Ford in the front corner of the endzone, but Carlton Davis is blanketed on Ford and forces the incompletion.
*On a 34-yard attempt, Jason Sanders of the Dolphins knocks it through for three points.
*The Bucs offense takes the field now at the 30-yard line.
*1st and 10: Jameis finds Perriman at the 38-yard line over the middle.
*2nd and 2: Jameis looks for Godwin on the right side but Godwin can’t bring in the catch.
*3rd and 2: Jameis looks for Godwin again but cornerback Xavien Howard undercuts the route and picks the pass off.
*With Rosen in, the Bucs defense gets two sacks and quickly forces a 3-and-out.
*A lightning warning goes off and the players and fans make their way to the indoor facility. While heading indoors, Fitz is met by a bunch of old teammates and hugs and handshakes are given.
*Teams move inside the 10-yard line: Jameis fires a ball to Ellington in the flat and Ellington fights Bobby McCain for the ball at the 2-yard line. He makes the catch.
*Both sides of the 50 feature 11-on-11 sessions for each team’s third stringers.
*The Bucs third-team offensive line looks mediocre at best. No holes are being opened up for Dare Ogunbowale as he gets stopped for short gains or no gain almost every play.
*On the other side of the field, the Bucs’ third-team defense is getting good push from the line, not letting up any significant gains.
*Each FG team sets up on separate sides of the 50. Cairo Santos comes in today for the Bucs.
*Santos doesn’t miss. After his 42-yard make, Gay comes in to replace him. Gay comes in and nails a 45-yarder on his first kick. Next, Santos comes back in for a 48-yarder and hits it. Gay comes back for a 51-yarder and hits it. Santos comes back in and hits the last kick of the session from 54 yards out.
*11-on-11 gets going inside the 10-yard line. Fitz looks over the middle and almost throws a pick to Kentrell Brice, but Brice can’t hold onto the ball!
*On the next play, Fitz looks for Parker in the back corner of the endzone, but the ball is knocked away by Hargreaves.
*The next play is a direct snap to running back Mark Walton, but the Bucs defense is able to wrap him up before he reaches the goal line. A win for the Bucs defense on that short series.
*The Buccaneer offense comes in. On the first two plays, Jameis fires back-to-back TD passes! He is then pulled out for Gabbert, who gets the offense into the endzone once in three tries.

Sounds like a normal defensive game for the bucs. The opposing team has 3rd and long multiple times on a drive and convert 3 or 4. I was hoping that was a thing of the past. Still time to fix it. But giving up 3rd and 16 and 3rd and 14 doesn’t sound to encouraging

I feel like I say this daily, but man some of you people are freaking NEGATIVE. Just give up sports all together guys cause if it makes you so miserable that you HAVE TO post negative comments on every article maybe you should find something you actually enjoy. Just saying……

Nothing wrong with being negative about the Bucs giving up the booty on 3rd & long. It was a trademark of our last defense and something we should be expecting to come yo an end under new coaching.
We saw way to many long conversions against the Steelers and it was a real disappointment. We all should want to see this team get better and be critical about stuff like this…..not just turn a blind eye.
A sack or forcing a bad pentalty should end a drive almost everytime. Until it does this defense won’t be good enough.

But how about the positives?
Against the Steelers we forced 2 fumbles. We picked off one ball(was nullified) and dropped another gimme INT. Only one of those plays was converted into a turnover but it was very refreshing to see.
Smitty’s defense had no big play ability and hopefully the plays we saw on Friday are a sign of things to come.
This would be a huge step in the right direction if that potential is real(reports from camp suggest it is)…….Even if we are not a shutdown defense we can win with one that can sprikle in some splash plays!
Let the Bucs get good first then we can be great!!

Zach the Manbeast does a great job. I went to see the Dolphins perspective and their beat writer could only muster 12 points about the whole day and they were sparing on any details. Way to go Zach!

JJ- I don’t think Ndog was speaking to Jeffbuc, i believe it was more for BigPoppa and Duthsty (still my favorite name) notorious negative on the daily. JeffBuc was spot on, I think Ndog recognizes that. Sorry if I am speaking for ya dog, but you know your stuff and appear to be a realist

This is just practice, training camp, this is where we find out where the round holes and square pegs are, who is retaining lessons and who can’t seem to follow directions, this process will be over in three weeks!!!! Hargreaves is being given every chance to show “if he can ball” ….if he can’t we now have enough talent to say next man up!! It is my opinion that he is best on the inside!! GO BUCS GO FAMOUS GO SUHY GO SPAWN!!!

D1 the thing is I don’t care about quarterbacks like yall brain wash national media fantasy football people. I look at the hold team. Yall try to act like we are 1 quarterback away from wining the super bowl. Jamies is not are have been the real problem with this team. If you can’t stop the other teams from scoring you are going to lose. It doesn’t matter who the quarterback is with this team. But I just hope that if they get rid of Jamies please draft a white quarterback so we can build a championship team cause I think that if he was white it would be different.

I like the trend of the weakest links on this team seem to have had enough of the punching bag routine..’IF’ the O line with Kappa and Marpet can take it up a notch and a double headed RB combo of Rojo and Barber give then Any running Game Maybe this Hall of Famer I keep hearing of at QB will show a collective Bucs nation what we thought we were getting 5 yrs back ..There’s a different vibe ..Coaching is critical in NFL and The Bucs got one finally ..Who’s ready to head to the RayJay lot and start the tailgate Now!!

@Ozzie…you could be right about the coaching, but it’s been said MANY times before in this town for decades. Let BA build a track record here first. And some players need to build a track record too. And still some, who had it handed to them, built a poor record and their time is limited…or they are gone…so they better outperform all others and still hope…..

Man look yall can’t act like his race don’t have nothing to do with it with some of these people. I just don’t sugar coat nothing. That’s why I said that about Rivers, Wentz, and Luck . Now I’m not saying that every body feels like that about Jamies. I just see the difference when the national media makes every excuse in the world for those quarterbacks . And it might be the truth but why do Black quarterbacks get judged harder than white quarterbacks???? Look at the weapons that Matt Ryan has. And every year they lose it’s because of his right guard or left guard. Jamies never had a running game or a defense but if the team lose it’s his fault regardless if he plays well enough to win games. I know yall want to believe that the hold thing about the treatment of black quarterbacks is over but it’s not. However now if they are playing like Geano Smith or others then ok I’m with you but Jamies has played good in a lot of games and for him to be treated like the national media treats him is flat wrong. Until I see a decent defense and a ok running game it don’t have to be a great running game but at least respectable and he plays bad throughout the season then I will be all in for another quarterback not a first round draft pick cause we still need to build a defense first then get quarterback in the second round . Whitehead had some good plays in goal line on field B. He came up on the left side and thumped the running back and put him on his butt, it was awesome. The sound of the hit made some people on the other field snap their heads around to see what happened. On the next play he came down hard and blew up the lead blocker on a outside run allowing teammates to get the TFL. He’s one of those guys that it just sounds different when he hits people. That dude has serious dog in him, love it!!
