Surprised At Invisibility
August 13th, 2019Players playing over their heads or coming out of nowhere? Bucco Bruce Arians hasn’t seen it.
Arians was asked today after the first joint practice with the Dolphins if any players have surprised him with unknown talents or abilities to play. Arians basically said not really.
But Arians did add that what has surprised him was that some players in being in the Witness Protection Program.
‘I’m waiting on three or four guys to show me something,” Arians said.
Arians did not specify the players. Clearly, whoever they are, Arians is disappointed.
Mind you that after the first preseason game at Pittsburgh, Arians said he confronted rookie corner Sean Murphy-Bunting and asked him if he showed up in Pittsburgh because he didn’t see him make any plays.
In an unrelated subject, Arians apparently is getting frustrated with rookie receiver Scotty Miller being hobbled and unable to practice with a bum hamstring.
“I want to see Scotty Miller get his @ss back on the field,” Arians said

Good technique from Arians so far in a measured “outing” of players. Not full bore verbal thrashing publicly, but they sure know in the meeting rooms who they are…and that they need to step it up.
Two great lines from John McKay (roughly were):
– We couldn’t stop the run. We couldn’t stop the pass. Other than that, the defense did pretty well today.
– (After a terrible game) Okay, go ahead and take a shower….if you need one.

News Flash. Apples is one of the 3-4 that he is disappointed in. He is turning the ball over faster than he can out dollar bills in those Trampa strippers garter.

Greatest McKay quip of all time was when asked about the team’s execution, he said, “I’m in favor of it.”

I understand that coaches have different ways of, shall we say ‘motivating the desired response’ from a player, but goading a player with a bum hamstring to get back out there prematurely isn’t a preferred technique IMO. The training staff needs to be the ones to say Go-or-No Go on injuries. I’m surprised at BA.
August 13th, 2019 at 3:16 pm
Why? Arians learned from Bear Bryant, a guy who played in a bowl game with a broken leg.

Devin White been pretty invisible

Head ball coach knows a thing or two about a thing or two.
Also thought it was interesting there was a post the other day, where BA in Video gave 3 goals, Super Bowl, NFC, NFCS. Said “maybe it’s 9-7” to win the division. First time I think I have ever heard a coach at any level suggest to his team that a 56% winning percentage is a goal, no matter how bad the team was the prior year. I don’t care if it gets us the division, offering a blanked suggestion that 7 losses is acceptable is bizarre.
If you listen to the head ball coach, we may have trouble winning games this year.

@Ghost…that was classic…for sure a best one.

I read many comments about Devin Bush playing so much better than. Devin White. I recorded the game and watched Bush. He did not start doing much until the back up,offense was in. He looked frustrated when facing our starting offense. Also, Bush ayed a lot more total snaps than white did but hey, let’s annount Bush a hall of gamer and White a bust. Lol

I can guarantee you that Scotty Miller wants to play worse than BA wants him to.
The boy could be on the bubble with Spencer Schnell’s performance…..

Joe … I assume you do know the story of how The Bear got his nickname … and what he did when the bear’s muzzle came off.
Doctor_berto … Invisible? Care to name 1 play that he was taken advantage of? From what I saw, Devin White did a very commendable job of solidifying the middle. I call that ‘Doing your job’. Besides that, gut feel is that TB wasn’t interested in releasing Devin on multiple blitzes (probably saving that for the regular season?).
August 13th, 2019 at 4:50 pm
White missed multiple assignments and has over pursued way too many times to count during practice as well as his limited snaps against Pitt. Blitzing has been the only thing that I’ve seen him do well. Also, Bush did look better than White but thats because White was invisible.
August 13th, 2019 at 4:51 pm
And not that this matters much but PFF graded White out as a 40 for his 11 snaps played.
August 13th, 2019 at 4:51 pm
Defense Rules, can you name one play that he wasn’t invisible? lol

If my timeline is correct (and feel free to correct me if I’m a wrong) Arians only coached for a year under Bryant – and I’m not sure if it was even a paid gig.
He spent more time under Ray Perkins, if I’m correct, and ole 3-a-days Perkins didn’t tolerate players that couldn’t get on the field.
I like a coach that isn’t coddling these millennial cupcakes and is riding them hard. I just hope Licht drafted guys that can be coached that way and won’t shrivel up like a pansy if someone criticizes them.

“offering a blanked suggestion that 7 losses is acceptable is bizarre.”
Not how I took that segment at all. He was saying sometimes the division is won with 9/10 games which is absolutely true. I thine Seattle got in with a losing season a few years back even.
Especially in divisions with stacked teams that all beat eachother. If anything I took it as just emphasizing how important the divisional games are given the records may all be close towards the end of the year and you need the tiebreakers sometimes

I like the way BA is trying to motivate his players. Miller for example, even if he has a bum hammy he needs to get on the field. The fact is he isn’t a high pick that will make the team for that reason alone. He’s facing stiff competition, and guys are showing we don’t need him. I had a boss once who said something similar to what BA said. Most of you are doing a good job, those of you who are not know who you are!
August 13th, 2019 at 5:57 pm
Doctor … If you’re asking about splash plays, no I can’t. But at the same time Devin White did his job from what I saw. Our first team defense looked pretty good I thought, except for one deep pass completion of course (not Devin’s area of responsibility from what I saw). Besides that, he’s a ROOKIE learning a new defensive system. Same with Bush. Where was he when our first team took it 80 yards down the field for a score on that first possession?
Hodad … Have no idea if you’ve ever REALLY pulled a hamstring, but it’s painful. Very painful. And running full speed just isn’t an option; your body won’t allow it. Miller’s weapon is SPEED. Without it, he wouldn’t have a chance of making this team. How about folks just let the training staff do its’ job & get him healthy as fast as they can.

“Coach BA, there’s a safety on D that says he’s invisible” “Well, tell him I can’t see him right now.”
August 13th, 2019 at 6:42 pm
Don’t get me wrong, I’d be thrilled with only 7 losses, and certainly with an NFC south title. Just never heard a coach, before the season begins, say that hey, we need to win the division, and it’s possible we can lose 7 times and still get there.
That line of thought is usually more of a motivational tactic to stabilize a 1-2 team teetering on the edge.
BA doesn’t mince words, he’s desperately hoping we can somehow get to 9 wins. I guess we all are – just odd to hear it from head coach in August.
August 13th, 2019 at 6:50 pm
If Vea, Suh, JPP and Nassib are all healthy at the same time by the early first half of the season, there won’t be any easy games for other teams to win against the Bucs.
I think he’s talking about Bunting, Watson, Spence (against the run but may just be in on obvious passing downs and play speckle teams) and maybe Davis? Davis seems a little quiet and low key….may BA is trying to get him to fire up. No telling
August 13th, 2019 at 7:00 pm
Blitzing has been the only thing that I’ve seen him do well.

Hmmm, sounds so familiar but wtfdik
The 3-4 guys I’m guessing are the first 3-4 draft picks bc the 5th one is hitting fgs from 80 yards out.
Hope in one hand and crap in the other, see which one fills up first.
I guess we’re going to ride with no RG or RT? Run Jameis Run. Oakland should be nice and stacked for you by next year he’ll Carolina might be too. Or Atlanta or NO. It’s your world boss man
August 13th, 2019 at 7:07 pm
funny how fans are trying to guess who the three or four are. We likely never know, we still don’t know what he meant by VHIII having to get his head together (or whatever he said). you got a couple of draft picks, Scotty Miller, Terry Beckner and Anthony Johnson – who expect your drafted players to show up, if I had to guess
August 13th, 2019 at 8:09 pm
Ha ha ha. JW three two pick sixes today against the Dolphins. Just saw it on the NFL Network. He is the same garbage that he has always been and we are paying him 21 millions. Cowards.
August 13th, 2019 at 8:29 pm
Unfortunately the film clip on Harris today is worse than the #ConteStiffArm
Hopefully not career ending.
August 13th, 2019 at 8:31 pm
Draft 4 DB just sign one dumped by another team. Looks like another year of wasted picks…. draft OL / DL Gump has got to go
August 13th, 2019 at 11:21 pm
You also have to remember that Todd Bowles hasn’t shown ANYTHING of this true defense in the preseason game or practice against the Dolphins.
When you hear about this defense in practice Bowles is calling plays like we will see in the season.
It has been mentioned multiple times they don’t want to give ANYTHING away.
R.E.L.A.X.
Sound familiar?
