Behold, A Kicker
August 11th, 2019Man, this Matt Gay is starting to turn into a folk hero.
Just a few dozen hours after setting a Heinz Field stadium record in his very first kick attempt wearing an NFL uniform by booting a 55-yard field goal, Gay, the Bucs rookie kicker, proved in practice today in the Glazer Shed that Friday night’s display was no fluke.
Gay was 4-for-4 today in long-distance kicking, including kicks of 59 and 61 yards. Joe has video of Gay’s 59-yard field goal and it likely would have good from 70.
Yeah, someone on Twitter already mocked Gay, saying it is just practice. Well, goofy Roberto Aguayo was missing extra-points in practice. So how did Aguayo do in games?
Joe prays Gay doesn’t get the bright idea to change his swing. This dude is a weapon and Joe would keep him over never-taken-a-snap-in-a-game third-string quarterback Ryan Griffin.
Yeah, Joe typed that.

I’m all in on Gay.
Giggity.
August 11th, 2019 at 7:04 pm
He tied the record (Crosby’s 55yd FG), why do people keep thinking he set a record?

Anyways, things look very promising so far with Gay! Would be great for this draft pick to pan out!
August 11th, 2019 at 7:07 pm
So true…I was so skeptical we’d drafted a head case given some of the media stuff, but his performance has really shined through. Great guy too. Talked to him again today. Just really a good team player, good guy.
I agree on 70 yards. I actually mentioned that ot a couple of out of town freinds and they couldn’t believe it.
Take care of the hammy. We get it. Don’t push it!
Go Matt!
August 11th, 2019 at 7:07 pm
So Gay, So Good.
August 11th, 2019 at 7:08 pm
Man, that looks even better on video…thanks Joe!
August 11th, 2019 at 7:14 pm
“Joe would keep him over never-taken-a-snap-in-a-game third-string quarterback Ryan Griffin.”
By this statement is Joe suggesting that we keep 2 kickers?
I think we can handle a couple of missed extra points if we can count on 50 plus consistency.
August 11th, 2019 at 7:16 pm
Griff > Gabbert
August 11th, 2019 at 7:16 pm
That does it it’s official! I’m Gay!! 😁
August 11th, 2019 at 7:21 pm
And to think 90% of you wrote him off before you even gave him a chance. He was a 5th round and if he succeeds, he locks down a position thats haunted us for a long time. We as Bucs fans have to better than we’ve been the last several years, frustration or not.
August 11th, 2019 at 7:23 pm
Swamphub…I think you are right. I hope they keep three QBs. Still too bad they didn’t play him after the season was lost last year. Then we’d KNOW he’s the #2. He’s got one proud dad at practices and games too.
August 11th, 2019 at 7:23 pm
Matt “The Rejected Vernacular” Gay will prevail (I sure hope so at least)!
August 11th, 2019 at 7:23 pm
I was skeptical, but the good thing would be, every time he kicks a long one we can all say, “How Gay was that?”
On the other hand, when he misses an extra point, we can all say, “How Gay was that?”
August 11th, 2019 at 7:24 pm
70? I think that would have been good from 80
August 11th, 2019 at 7:25 pm
Damn!!! Can’t wait to see this guy in a real game!
August 11th, 2019 at 7:32 pm
Just told my wife I might have to buy his jersey. still have to wait to see it in an actual game that matters
August 11th, 2019 at 7:34 pm
Maybe the most powerful NFL leg ever.
August 11th, 2019 at 7:34 pm
Would have been good from 75.
August 11th, 2019 at 7:36 pm
Wright Says:
August 11th, 2019 at 7:04 pm
“He tied the record (Crosby’s 55yd FG), why do people keep thinking he set a record?”
THE CROSBY KICK WAS 52 YARDS—YOUR SOURCE IS WRONG. NFL corroborated that Gay got the record.
August 11th, 2019 at 7:43 pm
Lol suddenly everyone is in on the kicker and it was a good pick? So weird how people talk trash about players and picks before they have a chance to prove their worth.
August 11th, 2019 at 7:50 pm
@Ghost of Darrell Henderson – pretty funny
@Race to 10 – right! Are people that stupid to no think others realize that? Or are they that upset with every little thing in the world (can only imagine what else upsets them)? They feed the narrative of this generation we live in nowadays pretty good, and I’m part of that generation saying that. It’s so pathetic and toxic, and there’s no accountability. Today’s people are the worst, yet we probably live in what could be the best times with everything available to us (not the simplest, but the best).
And it’s not just a sector of people, it’s the majority.
August 11th, 2019 at 7:52 pm
Buc53,
Can you please point me directly to your source then? My source is literally nfl.com game report that says Crosby made the 55 yard kick. If I am wrong, I’ll happily admit it and I would then ask the Joes to delete me comment. Also, why are you yelling?
August 11th, 2019 at 7:53 pm
Licht is gonna give him a HUGE contract one day:-)
August 11th, 2019 at 8:04 pm
If someone has already said this, I stand down.
If not, I’m predicting Gay nails a 70+ yarder in a regular season game this year. When we open 6-0.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:08 pm
But joe, all i heard from the local media and trolls on this site was the bucs were dumb for using a draft pick on a kicker. I even pointed out the pats used a 4th round pick in 2006 on their current kicker. Obviously this is not the regular season but he is kicking 55+ yarders on the regular as if they were the old school extra points.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:19 pm
It was just the Licht haters that wanted Gay to fail. They eventually will learn that Licht knows more than they do. The only reason he has a losing record is because the clown HCs we have had since he was hired. Our OL has sucked because of Warhop who now is ruining the stupid Jaguars who hired him. He has been hiring diamonds in the rough just like the Patriots and BA wanted but they were experts at developing them. That is why BA was happy with the players Licht brought here because he knew how to develop them. You can also see that BA is using the Preseason to see who has been fully developed and who needs further development by the start of the season and who needs to be cut and replaced. How many of our Coaches have brought in the Third String QB well before the end of the first half? None. He could have won the first Preseason Game just by kicking extra points, but he had to find out if we could punch it in by going for two. He found out that we can’t. But once we get Vea healthy he can have him line up as a FB on two point tries and we will be able to win the two points at will. He has already shown he was right about keeping the old OL plus Cappa and he has already changed Jameis and he didn’t need another RB. He is no stale biscuit!
August 11th, 2019 at 8:24 pm
I think he’ll do a 64 yarder this year. Still lucky to open 2-3 or 1-4 though.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:26 pm
Trust me…BA is going to bring respect n recognition back to Buc land. Sometime during the season, BA will put Gay in to try a “no risk it no biscuit it” 60 yards or more field goal. The Ghost of Matt Bryant returns. Field goal n offense will dominate. If we can get the defense to play more aggressive, wrap up on tackles, hustle with effort, n as Bill Bellichick says…”Do ur job”, I have no doubt about us making the playoffs.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:42 pm
I would love to have BA bring Matt Gay in for a 65+ attempt (not a gamewinner) I would love to see if Gay could make it and become famous.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:46 pm
As for blaming either Licht or BA for injuries you need to watch other teams on the NFL Channel showing the other NFL teams and you will learn other NFL Teams have lots of injuries too. However, they have developed backups to step up and they can win anyway. Look no further than the 49ers who have already lost Bosa and a number of their other players but they still won their first Preseason Game anyway. Their GM is good too! Remember the Redskins last year had so many OL injuries that they beat us with OL off the street. Benenoch and Boozer need a lot further development or cut and replaced. We already picked up an OT from Washington who with development may be able to replace one of them. We are working on getting another DT to develop too. BA always picks up cast offs at cut down time and develops them into good players. We will be ready to rock a bunch of teams this coming season. Trust BA and enjoy as the trolls disappear! We haven’t heard from Ghost already. LOL.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:48 pm
What happened to all the people who said they knew Gay could have been had as a UDFA & that we wasted the pick?
Oh now you just love him like you “always” have. Some of y’all really act like chicks sometimes. Two Faced little creeps.
August 11th, 2019 at 8:57 pm
Vikings just gave up a 5th for a kicker in a trade with ravens….
August 11th, 2019 at 9:00 pm
Go Gay!
August 11th, 2019 at 9:15 pm
This dude hasnt even been kicking field goals that long. The fact that he is this raw and this good suggeat a possible record breaking hall.of fame field.goal kicker in the making. Obviously he is not that, but his potential is so high and he is already equal to Santos at worst. Hands down its Gays job and he will WIN GAMES.WITH THAT LEG!!!!
GO.BUCS!!!!!!
August 11th, 2019 at 9:22 pm
I’m really liking this Gay dude.
I’m gonna get me a Gay Jersey.
August 11th, 2019 at 9:23 pm
I think the 49er Bosa isn’t gonna be worth that pick.
August 11th, 2019 at 9:27 pm
Passing out Savior crowns already? How about at least let him make the team and kick in Regular season. Alex Kesssman of Pitt also made a 55 yarder last year at Heinz Field against Syracuse. The guy is making good kicks. But then again. We are talking about the Bucs who can F up a wet dream
August 11th, 2019 at 9:30 pm
Hope he wears #1.
August 11th, 2019 at 9:39 pm
Ghost of darell Henderson. Man your screen name man crush really killed it against a weak raiders defense. I mean we could have really use his 6 carries for 13 yards and 1 catch for -5 yards so a total of 7 touches for 8 yards. And your screen name is about us missing out on this guy. Like i have told you before this guy put up great numbers in a weak conference against weak opponents. Talk to me in week 17. But man is he off to a great star. He might be a tad better than Rojo in his rookie season with those great numbers. I mean bucs fans would be ecstatic today if we would have drafted him and he had 8 yards on 7 touches. ma. That 8.2 yards a carry in college are looking great now he got 8 iyards in a while game in the nfl.
August 11th, 2019 at 9:51 pm
Wait till he wears his rainbow shoes!
Seriously though, I’m excited too…but it was one kick in one game.
There was a reason the Bucs did not kick any extra points.
August 11th, 2019 at 10:10 pm
I was thinking he’ll break the NFL’s longest field goal record too
Doesnt an ex buc kicker own that one
August 11th, 2019 at 10:13 pm
@JeffBuc: Looks like that Henderson bust is gonna make RoJo’s rook season look All-Rookie…
I hope Ghost puts a sock in it.
August 11th, 2019 at 11:05 pm
How many times are we going to see these lame double entendres?
August 11th, 2019 at 11:09 pm
Bring out the …”Kracken”
August 11th, 2019 at 11:10 pm
Todd I would do a back flip if we start 6-0. But im just hoping we squeeze in to the playoffs at 9-7. I think its going to take time for the defense to gel.
August 11th, 2019 at 11:35 pm
We get the ball on the 25 yards line after kickoffs, right? That means we really need three first downs to be in field goal range with this guy. Every time we hit the 50 we have to be thinking of kicking a FG when it’s 4th down.
Turn up your sound and listen to it come off his foot. Never heard that sound before on a field goal. Punts, yeah but not field goals.
August 12th, 2019 at 12:45 am
Loose the Kracken
August 12th, 2019 at 2:32 am
Rumor has it, when Gay kicks the ball, you can’t if it is the pirate ship’s canons or Gay.
August 12th, 2019 at 2:39 am
2 kicker approach was my idea to begin with! Glad to see it gaining traction!
August 12th, 2019 at 7:08 am
Two kicker idea is stupid. Way to take credit for your stupidity.
August 12th, 2019 at 8:31 am
I will bet you $100 that the Bucs don’t open 6-0.
