“Jason, coaching can change a lot.”

Buccaneers legend Ronde Barber has known new head Bucco Bruce Arians since he was a kid. Arians and Barber’s dad were college roommates.

 Those who know Arians’ big coaching themes will be intrigued by what Barber said today on the inaugural Hard Knocks podcast (yes, the real Hard Knocks) where Barber appeared as a guest.

Manbeast JoeBucsFan.com intern Zachary Seifter dialed up the podcast and took notes:

*Ronde says Jon Gruden has always been against rookie hazing, even in Tampa. The Bucs’ Super Bowl coach believes rookies spring and summer time to learn and work, and they shouldn’t spend it worrying about being, “beaten up,” by veterans.

*Ronde says Chucky is a fiery worker and that while he wasn’t an angry coach, he didn’t want people to know what he was up to. Ronde explains that Chucky would show up to the facility at 4:30 or 5 in the morning and work in a pitch-black office and dare anybody to come in and disturb him.

*The 1999 Bucs were probably as talented as the 2002 team but didn’t have the attitude, Barber said. Gruden brought a different mentality and his first words to the whole team were, “We’re winning a Super Bowl.”

*Ronde says Chucky brought a level of accountability that wasn’t there before. He explains that it isn’t an indictment of Tony Dungy, but Gruden sparked a higher level of accountability.

*Ronde talks a bit about Hard Knocks and says he became familiar with where all the cameras were at One Buc a couple of years ago. He said he had to find routes where he didn’t show up on camera.

*Ronde says there are “football people” with dirt they may not want to end up on camera. So, while Hard Knocks is fun and entertaining, it keeps people honest.
