Jameis Credits Andre Ellington For The New RoJo

August 8th, 2019

Joe will believe in the new Ronald Jones after he has a solid preseason and has one complete game during the regular season.

Jameis Winston has a different point of view.

America’s Quarterback addressed the nation yesterday on SiriusXM NFL Radio and talked about the emergence of RoJo.

Jameis said RoJo came to training camp “locked and loaded” and he’s thriving thanks to one of his new teammates.

“I think it’s because [RoJo] has a veteran in the room with Andre Ellington, who has came in as kind of a similar back as RoJo, who we can split out,” Jameis told co-hosts Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller. “We do a lot of five-wide here and it’s just created a confidence in him, probably making him feel real at home like he was at [USC].”

Interestingly, general manager Jason Licht talked to Kirwan and Miller yesterday and gave a long explanation of why new running backs coach Todd McNair is extraordinary. And Licht credited him with a lot of RoJo’s resurgence.

Yes, it’s a RoJo love party at One Buc Palace.

Running back is supposed to be one of the easiest positions to transition from college to the NFL. Maybe not the pass blocking duties or pass catching (if you weren’t a college pass catcher), but certainly the running part is a basic transition.

That’s why so many rookie running backs are successful quickly. But RoJo couldn’t pull off running the ball last season.

With all this hype, Joe can’t wait to see how RoJoe performs. The funny thing is that if he can average 4 yards per carry, or even 3.7, it’s going to feel like the Bucs actually found dynamite back.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  2. BucAllNight Says:

Nice to see what happens when our RUNNING BACK focuses on RUNNING and CATCHING the ball vs. Pass blocking… who woulda knew??

  3. Todd Says:

Why did Kwon give RoJo all his hair as a parting gift?

  4. Frank Pillow Says:

If RoJo comes out and even remotely looks the part of an NFL caliber running back, it’ll go a long way towards making us all fell a lot better about the player, the GM who drafted him, + McNair and the rest of the new coaching staff. It’ll also be one hell of an indictment of the previous regime’s ability to develop talent and effectively incorporate it into game plans.

  5. NOSBOS Says:

“We do a lot of 5 wide here”, d@#$ I can’t wait to see some. The mismatches should favor us most of the time. O.J. too Big and too swift.

  6. LordCornelius Says:

Funny thing is with the lack of touches he had last year, if he breaks a 50 yarder in his first game his career YPC would basically double instantly lol

Rooting for it. He’s also basically a free FF asset right now, but if he shows in preseason he’ll probably move up the hype train in rankings

    Dear Lord,

I just have two favors to ask, if it be thy will. Can you please make sure Vita Vea is healed for the season opener? Also, can you please ensure Nick Bosa is healed just in time to play in their second game of the season? Thank you.

    Amen

  9. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

Too bad, they traded the best RB in college football history (8.2 YPC) for 2 practice squad guys.

Do you ever get the feeling that one of the Joe’s is ringing the “Ghost Bell” every day now?

Although the guy with 3 bad knees is actually out with a bad hip, not the usual knee.

One guy has a cool Honey Badger haircut.

They also got a guy who can kick a 70 yard FG but runs about 50/50 on extra points.

Bucs are praying that Rojo can possibly achieve a paltry 3.7 YPC. Wow!

I noticed from watching that excellent production, “The Current”, that Jameis wears glasses now. I always suspected that his problem was, not lack of talent, but poor vision the way he squints to see the sideline or scoreboard.

Hard knocks is awesome this year.

    Good luck in Pittsburgh.

It’s Andre Ellington….so, you have now answered your own question.

    Dear ‘scetti monster,

Please oh great noodle one, heal thy child Vita Vea, make his knee bionically strong so that he may exploded NFC South QBs like so much cow dung.

May Rojo find a hole to burst through every play and average 4 yards a carry and bless him with a 7 TD season.

Oh wheat lord please find it in your mercy to guide every other errant throw of the wonder W Winston into the soft hands of the mighty Mike Evans and not the other guys.

Please oh Ziti lord, fill Cappa with the strength of 200 men and the feet of a cheetah.

Oh great alfredo king, find it in your heart to bless the young secondary with eyes like the hawk and the instincts and tenacity of the honey badger and the quickness of a pouncing gazelle.

Oh endless pasta bowl from Olive Garden, bless Noah Spence with a second move and an inside rush. Girde his shoulders with infinite armor as if welded with steel. Let him rip the arms off of every tackle he sees and chew them while the offense is on the field.

Oh sweet gnocchi prince, guide the kicks of your cannon legged child Gay. May every kick sail true like a shooting star through the upright.

Oh butter Alfredo, please hear our prayers.

Browns just traded Duke Johnson to the Texans for a 2020 fourth round pick. Did Bucs even consider?

  19. tmaxcon Says:

Joe will believe in the new Ronald Jones after he has a solid preseason and has one complete game during the regular season.

one complete game during the regular season qualifies him for the bucs ring of underachievement hell if he strings 4 good games over a couple of years he will be eligible for the Hall of Fame based on Buc Standards…. 6 good games in 5 years and he’s a freaking legend

  20. DunderMifflinRules Says:

Yeah…Licht still sitting still, doin nuthin. Duke Johnson at $3.5 mill this year for a 4th rounder. Coulda been us. Hell Licht won’t even be here for the 2020 draft to use that 4th rounder, so send it!

  21. DunderMifflinRules Says:

Licht KNEW like the sloppy buffoon he IS, that if he trades for ANY RB, then its a BUST vote for ROJO. His fat buffet-eating pride is what will cost us. Sloppy fool.

  22. LordCornelius Says:

Duke Johnson just a pure pass catching back and carries high salary. Would rather just use a 3rd or 4th round pick on another RB and have them on a cheap contract and possibly get someone that’s better anyway

  23. joestang Says:

sounds to me that the stars have to be aligned for RoJo to be successful. They are babying this guy hoping not to upset his fragile ego by asking him to run the ball. I would be shocked if this guy contributes anything to this team other than heartache. Licht sucks and should be fired.

  24. Sailor Jerry Says:

Understand on salary. He did average 4.2 yards/carry on 82 carries in 2017 and 5/carry on 40 carries last year. Touches were limited because of acquisition of Nick Chubb. Just hoping that we have enough in the backfield to keep defenses honest and open up play action options. Time will tell.

  25. PriMech54 Says:

Good luck to Duke but who cares. An average back who is decent catching passes out of the backfield will not transform the offense into anything more than what it already is. He’d be playing behind a worse offensive line anyways. Why give up a 4th for that? Especially since RoJo is about to make some noise. (Yeah, I said it!)

Wouldnt mind seeing them ship a 3rd or 4th for a nice swing tackle/guard just as an insurance policy, though. Now THAT would be a huge move.

  26. Sailor Jerry Says:

Agree if ROJO delivers. We shall see.

  27. BucEmUp Says:

Koeyyer disnt trust rojo pass blocking, so Koetter onky gave rojo a handful of carries. Koetyer also publickly made it very clear Rojo coukdnt catch (more minimal oportunites) so the defense knew two things the two plays he was getting the ball a game average.

One – Its probably not a pass to a wr or a screen to the rb.

Two- Its a handoff.to Rojo up the middle.

Leading.to lbs running full speed at him before the bal was even snapped.

I.know.this really shouldn’t need to be explained to anyone but unfortunaltey it.does.over and over and over and over and ……

  29. LordCornelius Says:

    @BucEmUp

The few times Rojo came into the game I was basically like “Alright let’s see this kid get destroyed behind the line” because it was just so insanely predictable…

I don’t even know if he was in on a play where he was just pass blocking / not the obvious person for the defense to key on / expect to get the ball. It was terrible.

  30. JGhoti86 Says:

I wouldn’t call it a “basic transition”, but I get what you’re saying. The holes aren’t as big, it’s a different game and running attack in the NFL (for the most part) and players are much faster and smarter. I would say it’s one of the easier transitions, as far as just running the football like you stated, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s a basic transition.

  31. Snook Says:

Judging a 2nd year player by his one season in Dirk Koetter’s predictable boring offense…

  32. Shadowbuc81 Says:

@joe surprised you haven’t posted an article yet about bucs missing out on Duke Johnson. Traded to Texans for pic next year.

  34. JimmyJack Says:

RB is another position among many that the last coaching staff failed to develope. To be fair they did a nice job with P.Barber who was undrafted and turned him into a solid back. Though we shall see if our current coaching staff can do even better with Peyton.

Having Ellington teach our younger players is likely by design and probably part of what’s made Bruce Arians a success in the league. Just like he has done with a large coaching staff he is utilizing his roster spots to help this team grow and develope. Never heard any of this kinda stuff coming from Dirk with a guy like Quiz for example……..And while we question signing a guy like Watford it may not be a coincidence that suddenly Cappa has taken a big step in his developement. What a player brings to the practice field & lockerroom goes mostly unseen and overlooked but it is a very big part of the puzzle(if you wanna win).

Look forward to seeing the results ROJO & other because of this different style of training Bruce & staff have brought to Tampa

  35. JimmyJack Says:

    GO BUCS!!!!

  36. JimmyJack Says:

Ridiculous to call Henderson the greastest back in NCAA history when he was passed on by all 32 teams. Then in round 2 all 32 teams passed again.

But blah blah blah stats. The greatest back coming out of college wasn’t even mentioned by the draft experts in the same breathe as the top backs.

Reguardless, if you want think the Bucs needed to Target RBs over defense in the draft your helpless. Time to step aside and let the big boys figure it out. They already know we have a legit offense & when we lose key defenders their aren’t a RB on Earth gonna help us.

  37. JimmyJack Says:

But at least Henderson joined the Rams who have a great running team. Henderson will look good and you can gloat all year. My guess is if he joined Miami or some other crap running team we wouldn’t be hearing a peep from you.

Good job taking the easy path to trollhood.

  38. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

    @Jimmyjack

“when we lose key defenders their aren’t a RB on Earth gonna help us.”

If the Bucs had a RB that averaged 8.9 yards per carry, 6.18 yards after contact and 14.5 yards per reception they wouldn’t hardly need a defense. They could set 11 lawn chairs out there on defense and win.

Time to step aside and let the big boys figure it out. Oh yeah!

  39. JimmyJack Says:

Ghost I agree I the Bucs had a RB that could average nearly 9 yards per carry they would not only have the greatest RB to ever come out of College…….We would have the greatest player in the history of the NFL…..Forget greatest RB.

I’ve looked it up and he would actually double the career average of Maurice Jones Drew…….He would hands down be the choice for the greatest athlete to ever play any sport of any kind.

As unbelievable as it sounds I have actually saw another RB do better once…….That was the amazing 1993 season Bo Jackson had in Tecmo Super Bowl.

You are right if the Bucs had a RB that could give us a Tecmo Super Bowl type season we wouldn’t need to add anybody to our defense!!

  40. AwShbucs Says:

There is one major reason that Rojo struggled last year. Dirk. Koetter.

Seriously go back and look at the difference between Devonta Freemans rookie year under Koetter compared to his entire career after he left. Its night and day.

  41. BucEmUp Says:

Lord C, Rojo should get most improved player of the year award. I hope this staff gives him all the chances he can handle amd ellington remains a 3rd or 4th option. Rojo should explode inder Arians

  42. Buc1987 Says:

JimmyJack…Bo’s the best RB in Tecmo Super Bowl history!

  43. BucEmUp Says:

Dude his senior year highlights are phenomenal. Hes not saquon barkley but he is a td waiting to happen from amywhere on the field. Arians is going to beat it into our oline how important it is to open a hole up because when he gets to the second level hes gone.

I think he led colllege backs in yardage after 5 uards of gain making him the most dangerous rb on the second level.

Hr caught a bunch of.passes just fine as well. If he can get pass blocking down he will be a dangerous weapon that allow our tight ends and wide recievers to feast big time

  44. Mike Johnson Says:

Man…All this RoJo Hype. There’s not a Buc fan who does not want this kid to do big things for the team. Good Luck to him. Hope he succeeds.

  45. Jim Says:

The hype machine is on full blast this time of year

  46. Destinjohnny Says:

    I’m not seeing it…

  47. Pittsshore Says:

Why in the world would “Apples” be analyzing any of his teammates when he himself needs to figure out what he is doing. But he can’t do that, as he is too igmit

  48. Bucnjim Says:

The NUMBER ONE reason the Bucs running game has struggled the past few years is play calling! If you are bringing in a situational player and handing off to him each time you might as well strap a flashing light to his helmet. You know why other teams were hitting our RB in the backfield? They knew what play was coming and even what direction it was going. You could be the best offensive lineman in the league and struggle to make a block when the defender knows EXACTLY what is coming. Sometimes it even looked like they knew the snap count as well.

  49. rrsrq Says:

Without throwing the previous coaching regime under the bus, JL also mentioned how ROJO constantly got hit in the backfield as he got the ball, he talked about scheme change is helping ROJO

  50. Sport Says:

Jimmy Jack. That was a great season Bo had in Tecmo Bowl. I think my Nintendo Thumb started acting back up on that reference. Classic.

    In BA I Trust!

  51. D1 Says:

    Bucjim,

Thanks for clarifying what the bucs issues were in regards to running the ball. Your number 1 answer…..is the last word on the subject. Brilliant analysis. .

It’s a shame you obviously hate to earn millions of dollars yearly and it’s courageous to stand against fame and fortune while doing something most people only dream of. Kudos to you. You’re a rock.
