Scribe frowns on run game.
It is already the thorn in Bucco Bruce Arians’ side. And for Arians to lose that thorn, his team is going to have to prove everyone else wrong.
If Arians has a pet peeve it is folks asking him about his running backs. He thinks his are damn good. Yet they have measly results.
Andy Benoit sure doesn’t. The X’s and O’s guy for theMMQB.com, though he seems to like Peyton Barber, does not know how the Bucs are going to run better with the same backs, and the same blocking style using the same offensive linemen.
Stylistically, Tampa Bay’s road-grading O-line fits Arians’ inside zone scheme, as does nimble fourth-year pro Peyton Barber, who might be football’s most underrated tailback. But should we really expect much from this ground game? Last year, with the same players and the same inside-zone scheme, the Bucs ranked 31st in yards per attempt.
Joe doesn’t see it either. But hey, this is why the Bucs are paying Arians the big bucks, right?
Joe doesn’t know who will have to stand before Team Glazer if the running game is rotten again and explain why the team willfully ignored it this offseason.

Joe for once we agree on something … there is nothing special about our backs … the days of pounding the football are over … this era of the NFL you need a flashy running game …. we really have to get with the times if we want to be relevant

The two major takeaways from BAs presser.
1. Vita’s original prognosis was good from the Doctors. I know there was smelling and that can make the image difficult to read but that’s still a positive sign.
2. He said if they had training camp at a school without a indoor facility their camp would have been ‘shot’. The weather has been the same or even better than most years here so that shows the importance and what a disadvantage all the former coaches had here trying to get a team ready. Thank you JW3 for pointing out the obvious of the importance of a indoor facility.

We might be surprised. Really, it isn’t the same group of running backs. We only have a couple back.
But…development is what it is all about, and that’s why we could be surprised.
I don’t subscribe to the ‘feed me now’ group. I mean, immediate production is always great, but I also understand that usually, great players are made over time. Usually. With a few exceptions.

Now that the first Preseason game is getting near, I would like to ask God to keep all major storms away from the Tampa Area for our first regular season game.
Yet another way the NFL could have hurt us. A couple years ago having a home opener during the first couple weeks caused us to lose a bye week because of a hurricane. They were supposed to avoid season openers at home for florida teams because of that.

So The Buc changed the coaches, but did not fix the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!! And ole stale biscuit was “paid the big bucks” to “fix” all of light weight’s mistakes!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is so plain to see what garbage and what a wasted year this will be!!!!!!!! But team cash in glazers are so happy to sell some funny looking hats!!!!!!!!!!!!! The “real” fans are tired of all the “fixing” and duct tape year after year after year!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately have to root for an obvious and total failure so even the sheep will know that it is evident for the full rebuild instead of all the excuses and what its scenario’s of why maybe it could work with some more duct tape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right because players never develop in the NFL. Devante Adam’s and Adam Thilien were top 10 recievers as soon as they were drafted…

Who says Arians is running a zone scheme? From the start we were told Arians uses a Power Blocking Scheme for his run game. It was Warhop that kept trying to make his OL run a zone blocking scheme and this OL kept failing at that. The reason Arians wanted and put Godwin as his starting slot receiver was in Arians power blocking scheme the slot receiver had to also be a good run blocker so keeping our former small slot receiver would not fit BA’s scheme.

we finished with 5wins back to back seasons mostly because of incompetent coaching, an outdated scheme on both sides of the ball and lack of development….

What Is Different?
1. Coaching staff
Not sure why Joe can’t understand why that’s a difference. Will it mean success? We’re about to find out. But to expect the same results with the same players under a different coaching staff is ignorant, at best.

My biggest question is
What is Arians doing? He’s not calling plays, he’s not coaching qbs and of the 5 practices I’ve been to he’s in the golf cart more than on the field coaching!!!

Is it possible……I’m just asking……is it possible that a player or group of players can get better with another year’s experience and different coaches/playcalling etc?
What I’m saying is I don’t think you always have to change players to get a more positive result.

TBBF … Agree 100%. You don’t ‘always have to change players to get a more positive result’. We’ve seen that time & time again as some teams improve dramatically with a change of coaches. Usually though it seems that they bring in several key new faces who make a big difference to the team.
This year’s change in coaching staff will have a significant impact on our team’s performance, but the improved performance (I’m HOPEFUL) will be equally affected by the change in roster. And especially on defense, where I expect we’ll see a 50% turnover in not just personnel, but also in starters.
What’s starting to me though is that the injuries are starting to pile up. Mike Liedtke was just lost for the season (now on IR), and I’ve read elsewhere that Earl Watford isn’t having a very good camp. That leaves us even thinner on the OLine, a position group that wasn’t exactly our strongest to begin with. Looks like we’ll need to add TWO OLinemen before season starts.

Bucs attempted the least number of screens in the nfl. Teams knew this and stacked the box to stop the run and didnt anticiapte a dump.off pass to pull them.back.or make them hesitate. That alone will make a huge difference.
Secondly, the defense allowing the other team to score at will eliminates the run game. Any fool can figure that one out….or so I thought.
This is what coaching does, it changes the little things for big results. Could they have a better rb? Sure everyone could besides maybe 8 other teams, but drastic imorovments can be made with a little commin sense which seems to.be lacking among rhe vaste majority of the fan base.

lol right away this guy’s article is trash.
Talks as if the Bucs are going to be running 5 WR sets all the time as if BA is an idiot that doesn’t know how to utilize OJ Howard / Cam Brate.
News flash this is a much different array of weapons/offensive design than he had with the personnel in Arizona (no good TEs). He has never had an elite TE like Howard or 2 very good TEs to work with.
And our ground game wasn’t “hot and cold” last year. it was just sh1t or constantly cold i guess. And how does he know we’re running the exact same blocking scheme this year as we did under Koetter? WTf? Why would we do that lol? That’s the definition of insanity.
Says no true edge rushers other than maybe Shaq Barret, but ignores Nassib who was on pace for 10+ sacks if he just has the same snaps that JPP got last year.

I’m not entirely sure it’s safe to say that BA’s run-scheme is drawn up and executed the same way as Dirk’s. Conceptually, there may be some similarities, but I have a sneaking suspicion (based on what we’ve seen at camp to date) that the RBs, WRs and OL are being asked to do some pretty different things, assignment wise. I think we’ll see a different approach/philosophy on how the running game is incorporated into the game-plan too. The real question is whether our guys up front capable enough execute BA’s approach?

Arians is a legitimate head coach, Koetter was not. Koetter is a legit assistant.
Arians will not whine about his qb (“I didn’t ask for this…”- Koetter on Jameis ‘ suspension)
RB’s will be used in passing game regularly as opposed to last couple of years gimmick plays
Cappa is RG now, not Benenoch
Offense will have more balance- see Patriots, Eagles, etc
RB coach is Improvement and Ellington, Ogunbowale and Anderson are upgrades over Rodgers and Wilson
Yes, OLine may have issues still, but we will see improvement.

How about this:
1. Predictable run game (first down run EVERY TIME)
2. Admitted bad run blocking per Ali Marpet.
3. Only 389 attempts do to playing from behind most of the game.
If your QB is an interception/fumble machine how do you NOT run the heck out of the ball. Made no sense.
The bucs not investing in the Oline this year is going to bite them in the rear end. BA is notorious for turning the ball over (no risk it no biscuit) but with a better defense they will be in more games. Fresh Oline will be imperative in 3rd and 4th quarters. Im not very encouraged.

I am with you BA Fan. I am confused by this article.
Are the power blocking scheme and the zone scheme essentially the same? Are the differences trivial? Joe, how could you gloss over this in order to keep the dialogue about the running game going? How about a little deeper analysis to give us fans something to react to?
I am not a deep X-and-Os fan. Coaching up the OL within a new scheme was what I was depending on to see an improvement in our running game. Help me here!

Alenbucs, (“I didn’t ask for this…”- Koetter on Jameis ‘ suspension) what did those first four games look like? A hall of fame type four games, I guess the coaches knew what they were doing at that time. And the players responded with three 400+ yards games. That put the QB hall of fame because no NFL QB had ever done that before. Yeah I get it coach Kotter was not retained and we now have coach Arians. Who if he does not produce in two or three seasons will be unemployed by the Buccaneers. A bad business plan if ever I heard one.

new coaching especially o-line and accountability, there ain’t no way BA gonna stand for the lazy Donovan Smith attitude and he will have Jensen and the entire gang at full attention. They better get Rojo off to a good start tomorrow night as that kid is all about confidence–he got it he good, he lose it he ride the pine and we be looking for a new back before the end of preseason,anybody know why Jay Ajayi is still avilable?.

I agree, and Arians will show how a team finishes a season.
Koetter let the Jameis suspension hover and eventually mask a great start last year and then he screwed everything up by staying loyal to an incompetent defensive coordinator and being wishy-washy on starting qb.
Bucs will be better because of better coaching and personnel.
