Jason Licht Talks “Carrying The Message”
August 7th, 2019Rookie savior linebacker Devin White is impressing seemingly everyone exposed to him.
That subject arose today when general manager Jason Licht was speaking on national radio.
Former Jets executive and assistant coach Pat Kirwan, co-host of Movin’ The Chains on SiriusXM NFL Radio, told Licht of a difference between White and Steelers rookie linebacker Devin Bush, the 10th overall pick and a guy many Bucs fans coveted.
Kirwan said his recent visit with Bush revealed a young man sort of still realizing that he’ll have a lot of responsibility in a hurry. Speaking to White today, however, Kirwan explained White is “way past this idea of how much time do I get as a rookie.”
Licht was not surprised. “In a lot of ways he’s a lot like our head coach, very confident,” he replied.
And Licht noted White was knows as the leader of the entire team at Louisiana State, not just the defense, and Licht said he was a rare pre-draft interview because he was so captivating.
More important than the talk, of course, is the walk.
Licht says the No. 5 overall pick already is a mouthpiece for the head coach.
“Devin White is a prime example, who is carrying the flag for us on defense and calling the plays. And he’s done a great job of doing that and setting the tone and carrying the message that [Arians] is trying to deliver to the whole team.”
So much has been thrust on White’s shoulders, and more pressure has arrived with injuries to Vita Vea, Jason Pierre-Paul and Lavonte David.
It sounds like White is on track for great things, but he’s just one 21 year old linebacker. Joe isn’t one of the fans expecting him to be a superhero in Week 1.

I say we just play Devin White at LB. It’s the 3-1-7. A new defense. He has Aquaman-like superhero skills only on dry land. He’s like Ant Man, only full sized.

The fact that this young man has to be our leader and savior is just more proof of how bad Lichts drafts have been the last 4 years…. if we are lucky he finally got this pick right!

I was wondering how long it would take to correct that lol

Dom better than Licht?
LMAO THATS GOOD STUFF!!!!

Lots of pressure on a rookie who has never played a snap in the NFL. Gump is setting him up for failure.
August 7th, 2019 at 8:21 pm
Maybe not week 1 but each week after I believe we will see White swarming and frustrating offenses.
August 7th, 2019 at 8:30 pm
If were are counting on a rookie to save the team…that’s a joke. White is a good player who will be average at the beginning of the season. Hopefully, we will see him mature and become the the leader the team needs. He’s not there yet…give him at least a little time.

None of you idiots know what white will be. The colts were roasted for drafting a d2 mlb in the 2nd round last year. So much so that the nfl draft “expert” for usa today gave the colts a grade of a D because they picked the D2 mlb over players like ronald jones because he felt the colts supposedly needed a running back. Keep in mind, usa today was not the only publication to bash the colts for that pick and for not picking a running back. That D2 mlb not only led the league in tackles, but he was a pro bowler and all pro. He was ranked as a top 20 player on the nfl network a week or so ago. The point is you idiots have no idea what impact white will make from day one. So shut the f@ck up and just let it play out. I cant stand this idiot fan base and some of the people who cover this team.

He can be above average from day one. Kwon was average from day one and white is a superior talent. Yes he will get sucked in on playfakes a few times. And will give the wrong receiver a free release. But I think he averages 10 tackles combined a game. He is a true sideline to sideline linebacker who is strong and fast. I think he will amaze a lot of fans starting week one. And will quickly become a household name all over the country. One of the few players besides evans, winston, and suh who will get a couple highlights and segments on nfl network and bspn. And will win a lot of Pepsi defensive player of the week on nfl.com. Because his stats will make the big market fans have to vote for him. I think around 140 tackles 6 sacks 5 int type of season. You guys don’t realize how good this dude is. And he has the mental make up to be great. He isn’t into personas and lifestyle he is into being the best and respecting the game. A humble guy with a work ethic to be great accompanied by out of this world physical ability is something that is rare in the nfl. A lot of guys who aren’t overly gifted make up for it with drive. And some people that are off the charts gifted don’t have the drive. He has both and he can be scary good it’s all on his shoulders. And he seems ready to accept the challenge. His impact will dwarf that of the defensive end from kentucky I would bet my house on it.

Last year Lichts loved Stewart, Davis III etc.
Yes, I think White is different, and he’s going to be the next Derrick Brooks in leadership.
Just Jason talking doesn’t offer me any warm fuzzies about anything.

Some of you same idiots bash the bucs for not drafting luke kuechly. You see the impact he makes when he is healthy. He has been regarded as the top mlb/linebacker in the league a few times. He was considered the best linebacker in his draft. So i ask, why do you clowns bash the bucs for drafting the player who is considered the best linebacker in this draft now? Fyi……its not a good look to b!+ch and moan just for the sake to b!+ch and moan.
August 7th, 2019 at 9:28 pm
White is just as likely to be Myron lewis as hardy nickerson the only real star at lb bucs have ever had….

55 never won a single meaningful game without riding sapps coattails…..

Sapp was so overrated. He was a locker room cancer. Keyshawn saw through him. That’s why they kept Booger over him.
August 7th, 2019 at 10:23 pm
With Jason, he has frustrated me from a fans perspective. That frustration is when he makes a good move he’s sure to follow it up with a really questionable move which then negates the good move. It seems like there is never an in between. Jason seems like a really nice man and wants to win as much as any of us. ….but
It’s like watching him get up that hill only to step off the edge of a cliff in the end.. One step forward two steps back. Hopefully this is the year it all works for Jason because next year Jameis’s new contract will affect any upgrading.

Tmax and modhair are idiots. Both sapp and brooks are 1st ballot hall of famers. Sapp was suppose to wait a few years to be inducted like terrell owens because the media hated him but ultimately they could not deny his talent therefore he went in off top ie 1st ballot. DB was supposedly not big enough to play linebacker when he was coming out of college. Now EVERY team is looking for the next DB who can run side line to side line. You never heard of a linebacker running side line to side line before DB. DB revolutionize the position.
August 7th, 2019 at 10:51 pm
Modhair
They kept booger over sapp because they thought booger had potential to play close to sapp level and the organization was trying to balance the salary cap. Their was much money tied into the defense and kiffin said he could make due with booger. They were obviously wrong. Keyshawn was never on sapp’s level and that is why sapp never liked him and never called him a buc because keyshawn never worked out with the team during OTAs etc and stayed in los angeles in the offseason ala desean jackson. Educate yourself!!!
August 7th, 2019 at 11:08 pm
Tmax
Coat tails? Bruh put the bong pipe down. During DB playing days, the talk was who is the better linebacker….he or ray lewis. Yes, most in the media would say ray lewis. That is because lewis was more in your face while brooks was more humble and quite but make no mistake for 12+ years DB was atleast the 2nd best linebacker of his genetation which equated to 1st ballot HALL OF FAMER!!!!

Not sure I get the talk about past Bucs greats, thought the article was about our current Bucs…
August 8th, 2019 at 6:54 am
“DW will lead the NFL in tackles but the defense will be ranked worst in the NFL
How is the James Dean draft doing? No competent GM and team wanted anything with him because he was damaged goods and always injurged. The kid spent 9 months practicing the 40 yard dash and the Teflon Gump couldnt help himself”

Crazy Joes how you are and were all about #3 the new moniker, all the crazy photoshopped photos for those first few dozen articles. With all the talk about him being the savior making the team around him better by just being on the field with our players then. Now he still has the moniker he never earned, and you are now pushing a moniker onto White. Can they earn a moniker before you dole it out to them. Just a thought.
I am very excited to see 45 play this season. He sounds like he is a very levelheaded young man who has goals for himself and his team. Put those goals in action Mr. White. Lead by example and with your criticism and praise and your play on the field.
As always,
Show me! Do not tell me, SHOW ME!
GO BUCS!!
