Vea Goes Down

August 6th, 2019

Oh, no.

[UPDATE: 6:12 p.m.] The Bucs don’t need this.

Bucs beast defensive lineman Vita Vea suffered an unknown injury and had to be escorted back to the locker room during today’s afternoon practice.

JoeBucsFan.com manbeast intern Zach Seifter witnessed the incident.

@zseifter: Bucs DT Vita Vea faced off against RG Alex Cappa in a 1-on-1 lineman drill. While pushing against Cappa, Vea went to the ground and appeared shaken up. After being stretched out by trainers, he’s headed to the locker room.

Joe hopes to get an update sooner than later. As soon as Joe gets word one way or the other, Joe will pass it along.

[UPDATE: 6:12 p.m.] Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians did not know what happened to Vea. When asked about Vea as he began his post-practice remarks, Arians shrugged his shoulders and confessed he didn’t see (or hear about) Vea’s injury.

“I haven’t seen him since,” Arians said. When asked with a follow-up question, Arians said he just saw Vea heading to the locker room. “I just saw him walking in and he looked fine.”

The Buccaneers can’t be this bad for this long. “Hope” is a four letter word.

    oh god please no

  6. Wright Says:

He looked okay walking off the field. Hopefully it’s just a cramp or something minor. https://twitter.com/jayRecher/status/1158842973997731840?s=20

  7. Todd Says:

Bubble wrap him until San Francisco. Please.

  8. Rayjay1122 Says:

Shaken up is pretty vague. Doesn’t say in the post he was holding his knee in pain or anything. Let’s not over react until more info is given.

  9. Don_RyJo(e) Says:

Fingers crossed its another heat cramps situation…it WAS oppressively hot today.

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

OK..So what? Get well Vea….An Opportunity presents itself for the..next man up.
Good teams press on. Sounds cold but Y’all know its true. More will go down. Who will step in and step up. No excuses Bucs..NO..EXCUSES!!!!!!!

  11. Nick2 Says:

Wow did i just see our season flash before my eyes?????

  12. NOSBOS Says:

Sounds like cramps if they were stretching him. But d@#$,Cappa really is balling if he withstanding Vea’s force and causing Vea’s body to give in. Impressive.

  13. BucsFan727 Says:

Hopefully just cramps. Its hot out. Cappa has taken a small step forward. I still think we need 2 more olinemen and 2 more Dlinemen. Depth behind the staters on both the lines are thin. They need to give Vea a vet day too.

  14. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Shoulder joint or muscle related, my guess. Extended arms in his technique rather than compact technique… looks great when he manhandles the OLmen he tangles with… hope I’m not right

  15. BridleOaks Buc Says:

    Cappa rang his bell

  16. Cobraboy Says:

Is Cappa really balling? If so, that is GREAT news!

  17. tmaxcon Says:

No need to worry bucs have a deep roster and strong leadership this wlll not derail the 16 and 0 run….

  18. Magadude Says:

Yup, let’s just gut the middle of the defense. If he’s hurt for the second time in two seasons and misses significant, it’s time to start using the B word. Hope he’s okay.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Next man up……My Yankees have been doing it all year!!!

  20. Chris K Says:

Like when the headline read EVANS GOES DOWN! Smh… It’s gonna start being called “Joe Cried Wolf Bucs fan” if you can’t wait long enough to gather some facts before sending the masses down to the Skyway bridge.

  21. JimmyJack Says:

    Dang gummit!!

Vea is arguably our most important player on defense.

Gotta hear good news on this or we are in a little trouble.

  22. Christopher Schiefen Says:

You’ll never convince me an injury-prone NT is superior to an All-Pro safety (yes, the requisite Derwin post 😉)

  23. JimmyJack Says:

Christopher if he’s back on the field tomorrow it aren’t even a injury. So what the heck are you talking about?

  24. ModHairKen Says:

“The Bucs don’t need this.” Good Lord. I guess it is the end of the world as we know it. From the first few comments, you’d think Vea was Tom Brady and the backup was one of the McCown brothers. One guy’s ready to label Vea a bust because he got hurt twice in two years. We don’t even know what the injury is yet, snowflakes. Cappa has suddenly gone from a yeoman to Joe Thomas, and we don’t even know if Cappa did anything other than stand there while Vea just had a cramp.

Let’s blame Jason Licht. Obviously, he is a lousy GM for picking Vea, and Vea’s injury, if it is actually one, proves it.

  25. Stanglassman Says:

    What’s the B word?
    Bad take.
    Blowing something out of proportion.

The guy got dinged up practicing hard and the Doctors are being Cautious. He will be fine.

  26. Magadude Says:

    Well, we can hope.

  27. Bradentonbuc Says:

    Damn

  28. Pittsshore Says:

    Toughen up butter cup

  29. JimmyJack Says:

Is it time to freak out yet?

I can’t even sit down…..Just pacing nervously back and forth!! My breathing is labored and irregular.

Might gotta buy a bottle of Jack or I won’t sleep a wink tonight!!!

Like when the headline read EVANS GOES DOWN! Smh… It’s gonna start being called “Joe Cried Wolf Bucs fan” if you can’t wait long enough to gather some facts before sending the masses down to the Skyway bridge.

This is just BS. If a player goes down, that is news. Period.

Anyone that says otherwise has no clue what they are talking about or flunked out of journalism school because they were too stoned every day.

If you don’t want serious updates from practice, you should wait for the daily fishwrap to come to your porch in the morning, that is if it hasn’t been p!ssed on by the local mongrel.

  31. BucEmUp Says:

    WHAAAT THAAAAA FOOOOOOKC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DUDE REALLY??!!!! CAN THERE BE A BREAK? JPP, DAVID, SMITH, VEA and we aint even gotten to the FIRST FREAKING PRESEASON GAME?!!!!!!!!!! WHAT IS HAPPENING??!!!!!!!!!

  32. Dewey Selmon Says:

We should trade for Gerald McCoy…

  33. Joe Says:

The fact Arians said he doesn’t know about it is a good sign. Guessing if it was really serious he would have already been tipped off.

  34. Getaclue Says:

Good new on Cappa if he is hurting him and not getting ragdolled like Jensen

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Thanks to Wright

For the link to the video of Vea walking off the field…….no limp….both arms swinging……doesn’t look serious….but, of course you never know.

He could end up with one of those “mysterious” injuries…..

  36. Louis Friend Says:

Joe reporting something isn’t a big deal. If some of you drama queens want to have teen princess style hissy fit you might as well avoid watching sports at all. S*IT happens frequently.

  37. Stanglassman Says:

There’s a good gif of it on PR. He got his left knee knocked from the side from Cappa. Those side shots cause MCL injuries. People walk off the field with MCL all the time. I’m not saying that’s what happened but I’m not as optimistic as I was before I watched it happen.

TA minor, or grade 1, MCL tear can take from a few days to a week and a half to heal sufficiently for you to return to normal activities, including sports. A grade 2 tear can take from two to four weeks to heal.

    Just FYI incase.

  38. TDTB Says:

    Robert Nkemdiche.

  39. Buccernutter Says:

Gotta side with Joe. You guys are ridiculous. This is news and it’s pretty straight forward.

Damn Joe these people must get old lol

  40. Buccernutter Says:

Rest lvd and Vea all preseason.

  41. Cobraboy Says:

I’d rather know in a panic than not know.

Sometimes news isn’t what you want it to be.

  42. Bradentonbuc Says:

Huge deal until it’s not. That’s how injuries go

  43. Magadude Says:

“This is just BS. If a player goes down, that is news. Period.”

Very true. When Schiano’s Bucs were practicing with the Pats, I remember Clayborne bull rishing Brady, him turning over, and the “Oh No!” soundclip was national news all week even though Brady never missed a day. Heck yeah it was news. And we heard that over and over for two years!

  44. mark2001 Says:

Wow Joe…Cappa might look like a Charleston, Champaign, or Bloomington- Normal biker bar bouncer….but he is starting to play like an NFL starting guard.

  45. BucEmUp Says:

Cappa is a bust though….everyone said so. Anyone drafted by Jason Licht is automatically a bust and can’t play football.

  46. Magadude Says:

For ModHairken, or whoever, the reference to B for “bust” was sarcsam (I was probably not sarcastic enough) in going back to another DT drafted high who was injured twice in his first two seasons…who missed significant time….and he was labled a bust then by his critics (not me)…and had a slew of pro bowl and Top 100 seasons to follow.

  47. Buccernutter Says:

There are many players on this team that underperformed that were labeled busts and people tend to believe they should have performed at regardless of coaching.

Naaaaaaa. This is a respected, highly regarded staff that is known to get the best out of its players. There will be many different results this season under new guidance. Coaching is not an excuse but a reason.

  48. Magadude Says:

Spence and VHII are good examples. Some say Winston too. Whether it was coaching or not, they are out of rope and have to perform NOW.

  49. Timbo Slice Says:

TB Times says it’s not an ACL, if there ever was an upside to this story…

  50. Destinjohnny Says:

Any hope of winning 8 games goes out the window if vea gets hurt.
    Dude is a badass

  51. Buc believer Says:

It’s because it is summer time… wait until Nov/Dec when it’s not hot outside. Same thing different year. Dude is from the South Pacific right?? Not the South Pole.

  52. webster Says:

Trust me, Arians knows something. He just isnt saying because they dont know the extent of the injury. 2nd opinions/waiting til the swelling comes down etc. I hope im wrong but this may not be good.

  53. Defense Rules Says:

There are only 2 things about Vea’s incident that I put any credence in at this point. First, Zach’s report because HE witnessed it. Second, BA’s contribution that he “saw Vea heading to the locker room” and that “he looked fine”. Beyond that, everything else is pure speculation. HOPEFULLY it’s just something minor & he gets back out there soon.

And as far as folks assuming that Cappa’s now become a beast because the man he was blocking went down, how about let’s wait on that for a bit. Cappa barely got 100 snaps at Guard last year & I wouldn’t exactly say that he lit the NFL on fire. The proof is in the pudding as a lot of our mamas used to say, and the pudding doesn’t start cooking until Sept 8th against the 49ers. HOPEFULLY he works out, but I’m with BucsFan727 … would be great to sign 1-2 veteran OLinemen before the season starts. Our depth is questionable right now. Need more COMPETITION.

  54. richbucsfan Says:

If these guys get this injured in TC how will they survive 16 weeks? Or, what will they be like after Preseason Steelers game? Same ole same ole Bucs and media. Stoking the hype with outlandish claims…Season starts and its all downhill from there. Smh

  55. Chris K Says:

Joe, as you can see by some of the comments in here the line is already forming at the Skyway. So getting all pissed off at my cry wolf comment is probably a slight exaggeration on your behalf. Yes if a player goes down it’s news worthy, but your headline says “Goes Down” not leaves practice. So when you say Vea Goes Down or Evan Goes Down aren’t we gonna say “oh crap”.
If tabloid news is what you’re aiming for then ok, but C’mom man.

  56. Pryda...sec147 Says:

    He’ll be fine

  57. webster Says:

Remember BA told the media evans simply had cramps immediately after practice and those cramps happened towards the end of practice and BA had an update for the media. Vita went down with like a hour to go. Even if BA did not see the play as he said, you think he did not know vita went down or didnt get an update on vea’s status? My fingers are crossed.

  58. richbucsfan Says:

The MRI will probably reveal a devastating knee injury. It appears the Bucs will be playing practice squad talent to stat the season. I imagine by now BA wishes he was retired.
