“Don’t Try To Be Superman”
August 5th, 2019It is a good bet former Bucs coordinator Todd Monken told him this.
It is another good bet Dirk Koetter told him the same thing.
So it seems, if you believe the words from hot dog eating contest-protesting, mock draft-scowling, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionist, Mike Florio-arguing, parrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancing, anti-football proliferation, outhouse-admiring, airline-napping, steerage-flying, Yogi Berra-worshiping, urinal picture-taking, video game-playing, Taylor Swift-listening, pickpocket-thwarting, Bucs-uniform-frowning, Allie-LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hating, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball-box-score-reading, NPR-honk, filthy-hotel-staying, fight-instigating, barista-training social activist Peter King of NBC Sports, Bucco Bruce Arians is telling him this and it is starting to sink in.
“Him” would be none other than America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
King wrote about his trip to Bucs training camp last week and he shared words from Arians himself. Jameis, per Arians, is finally understanding he doesn’t have to be a hero for the team to win and is willing to let other guys win games.
Arians thinks Winston has had the weight of the first overall pick on his shoulders, and that’s been part of the problem. (Winston in four years: 21 wins, .616 completion rate, 88-to-58 TD-to-interception ratio. Mediocre at best.) Arians has stressed to Winston, even on the field during practice, to think about being one man of 22, to not overdo the leadership thing or the pressure thing. In all ways, he wants Winston to take the checkdown.
“Twenty-one other guys are gonna play their tails off with you,” Arians said in his office before practice. “You don’t have to do it all. You don’t have to fit a ball into a window. Just dump it to the back. Learn to take your checkdowns. Don’t try to be Superman on every play because you were the number one pick in the draft. You don’t have to be elite. Just play quarterback.
Let’s hope this works. Jameis has the talent, but it seems for whatever reason, that high football IQ mind of the Stanford academic qualifier shuts down when the game is in progress, sort of like Joe’s old computer when Joe wants to watch Bucs videos.
If Arians can truly rewire Jameis for the better, than he will be worth every nickel Team Glazer is spending on him.

The last time Jameis was surrounded by this much talent (both sides of the ball) he proceeded to win every game that season by a rather large margin en route to winning a championship. Popa Arians is like linking up with Jimbo all over again. I expect similar results.

The best QB’s play the position like a point guard. They get the ball to the open
man. Sometimes though you will need to hit that shot, so do it!

Hopefully this is the year that Jameis’ maturity catches up with his talent and his intellect!
Go Bucs!!!

Hopefully this is a year that Jameis’ Wins start to catch up with his losses.

Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torment of fans.

JW is too ignorant to understand the wishes of his last two head coaches and his current, in which he will get this one on the hit seat after this years performance. You can’t be a QB “whisperer” to someone that does not have the mental capacity to perform under pressure. These types of individuals need to be “yelled” at in order to get any type of performance out of them. Think of it this way: have you ever noticed that when watching TV and the show that you are watching goes to commercial break, then the preverbal local car lot commercial begins to roll. Keeping in mind that these commercials are geared for the ignorant. The volume of the TV appears to go up due to the loud barking of the guy that wins the dealership. He in fact is trying to get the attention of the JWs of the world. This is the only way to garner their attention.

This is exactly the right message for Jameis……Jameis is too competitive and makes many mistakes because of it…..
Settle down……don’t try to always be the hero…..pick your spots….
If Winston has a chance to change his behavior….>BA is likely the only one who can accomplish that.

Pittsshore that’s a pretty ignorant take. The dude is 100 times smarter than you im sure which is why you’re here on this page insulting him and he’s playing the game. You can’t be a first overall pick in the draft if you’re not smart. Wanna insult his play he earned it but even if he doesn’t get a second contract he’ll be superior to you in life and finances. That’s a haters take big time
His coaches were trash just like Geraldine coaches. Hoping for a long term contract just top laugh at people who post crazy stuff pittss

@raceto10: hmmmm, smarter than me: I have never been removed from Uber app for grabbing the crotch of the driver. I have never shoplifted in my life. I have never been accused of rape (twice) then had my college pay off the accusers just shy of 1 million each (Google it). I never stood on my college cafeteria table shouting f**k that pu**y in front of several female students. I never lied to the owners of the company that I worked for, and fellow associates, in order to save face. Now you tell me who is ignorant….U

@Pittshore
Yeah, that Jamarcus Russell was a real genius and a number one pick.

I keep saying and I’ll say it again. Jameis cam win dinking and dunking. He’s extremely accurate on the short throws. Take them!
He can’t win throwing bombs that are tossups. Even with Evans catch radius. He’s not accurate enough.
August 5th, 2019 at 11:21 am
Pittswhatever, you say what you haven’t done as a comparison: have you ever run an offense at FSU? Were you accepted at Stanford? Have you negotiated yourself a multi million dollar contract? Have you learned and executed an NFL playbook? Have you been employed as a college or NFL scout, coach or any other capacity? Rhetorical questions for ya, holy, humble and most righteous one. Go Bucs!

Hard to play conservatively when you know with confidence your defense is likely to give up at least 28 PPG.

@reach87: I chose Princeton & University of Cambridge for my electro physicist studies. I will also be in England this year supporting my Buccaneers regardless who is at QB. I have not mastered an NFL playbook and nor has JW. I reside on Hillsboro Mike in South Florida in a much larger home than your trailer. I grew up in Tampa and escaped due to my true intelligence (unlike JW) with full boat undergrad academic scholarship at Princeton University. No go back to watching you CNN while eating moms leftover Spam.

“Hard to play conservatively when you know with confidence your defense is likely to give up at least 28 PPG”
Tired of this cop out…his job is to play QB to the best of his ability, run the plays that are called and check down where necessary.
If he does all that and the D screws the pooch..so be it.
“DO YOUR JOB” seems to work on other teams.

My wonder in all the discussion on Winston’s on field play with the intent of being 1 of the 22, and playing smart. What should we expect to see and hear from our HC, if Leftwich calls one play and Winston changes it to something else. With mixed results of good or bad plays.
We have heard this has happened in the past, so is it something that can be honed to a fine edge, or to be avoided like a drunkard ax throwing contest.
Ultimately.
Show me! Don’t tell me, SHOW ME!!
GO! BUCS!!!
