Fresh Arians Love For Alex Cappa
August 3rd, 2019The rise of the 2018 third-round pick from Humboldt State, Sir Alex Cappa, is now official.
Bucco Bruce Arians has weighed in.
Joe wrote earlier, via manbeast intern Zach Seifter, about how Cappa is owning the starting right guard job and nobody is challenging him.
Arians, who has shown he’s unafraid to call out young players, made it clear following tonight’s practice that Cappa is very much on the rise.
“He’s doing a heck of a job. He’s gotten better and better every practice,” Arians said. “And he’s going against some studs in there. So he’s holding his own.”
Joe just wants to see decent right guard play after the J.R. Sweezy rehab tour and the Caleb Benenoch Experience, which had many Bucs fans in need of rehab.
Man, if Cappa can make a strong rookie-to-sophomore leap and develop into a legitimate starting right guard, with fresh legs and the nasty streak he had in college, general manager Jason Licht might get those fan grades up from Cs to Bs in a hurry.

Will be watching this guy closely next few weeks! Always fun to root for the guy no one really expects to improve.

That R-guard spot is the first place my eyes go on all of Joe’s replays. It would not suck if he (or anyone) took control of that position.

Way too much was made out of Cappa last year. He was drafted to be a developemental player. Unfortunately he was also drafted for a staff that never developed an OL. We are talking about a staff that evaluated Benechot for three seasons and said “yes” he is a starting caliber player. It’s obvisous the coaching on the OL was extremely poor. They couldn’t even figure out which positions to put their own players.
Maybe now we got a good coaching staff and can develope players that we write off or barely think about. Maybe we won’t need to add another $10M player to “fix” the problem. Like most problems it’s nothing hard work can’t fix.

After a the first nine days of practice we have some things to chew on.
Let’s see now Cappa has a looked good to the HC. Rojo may have a chance to overtake Barber as the starting RB. Vea really is a manbeast, big, versatile and athletic.
BA has said that it takes three years to train an offensive lineman in the NFL these days. Licht and staff apparently did not make a a terrible decision when it came to James vs Vea. Maybe RoJo really was too young and unready for the NFL last year, i.e., he came out too early.
Hmmmm.
Let us see how fans and local pundits see things after a couple of preseason games.

Go Bucs!!!

He would be banned from Wrigley Field for life for that picture if they saw that picture.

Said last year we might as well hang onto Sweezy since they had already paid him a ton and considering how bad the depth was, he’d be needed. They could have cut the worthless Evan Smith to help pay for it.
Instead they of course cut Sweezy who of course rebounds and has a great year in Seattle. Just as you’d expect.
For Cappa, I’m not sold on him, he didn’t have the measurables of a guy who would get drafted, more or less in the 3rd round. But he’s ugly, he’s smells and he’s mean, GRRRRRR!!! Anywho, would love to be wrong on him and have him prove he belongs. Let’s hope that’s the case and Madden is wrong, since in Madden he’s awful and basically single handedly gives me no time to pass, and can’t run block either.

Let’s hear more about the O line. Who else is looking good? Smith, and Dotson have missed some time, anyone stepping up? Who’s the back up center, LG, RG?

Fixing RG to a level superior to last season would be a blessing.
Maybe one reason the RBs have been more effective T-to-T is better RG play.
One can hope.
Cappa will be one player I will be spotlighting on Friday night. Suh, White & DB’s the others.

I wanted Cappa to get more snaps at the end of last year, to get him game experience. I think I remember Koetter saying he wasn’t ready, which is a fact, but Benonoch wasn’t ready, either. What would it have hurt?

Alex is a great guy. Glad he is getting chance to start. Watched him for 4 years at Humboldt State, go Alex!
