Jameis and pressure.
Very interesting insight from Bucco Bruce Arians into America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
In a sitdown Arians did with hot dog eating contest-protesting, mock draft-scowling, L.L. Bean-wearing, Second Amendment abolitionist, Mike Florio-arguing, parrot-insensitive, chewing-with-his-mouth-open, soup-gulping, California train-romancing, anti-football proliferation, outhouse-admiring, airline-napping, steerage-flying, Yogi Berra-worshiping, urinal picture-taking, video game-playing, Taylor Swift-listening, pickpocket-thwarting, Bucs-uniform-frowning, Allie-LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hating, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, craft beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball-box-score-reading, NPR-honk, filthy-hotel-staying, fight-instigating, barista-training social activist Peter King of NBC Sports earlier this week, Arians explained how personally hard America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, takes the losing around these parts.
In fact, Arians hinted Jameis may be blaming himself for former Bucs coach Dirk Koetter being run in January.
All of this came up when King asked Arians if Jameis puts too much pressure on himself. Arians said yes and admitted that is why he has had to rein in Jameis from working too hard. Arians claims part of the reason Jameis is a workaholic is that he is driven to both turn the Bucs around and clear his name in the process.
King asked Arians if Jameis puts pressure on himself for being a No. 1 overall draft pick.
“Oh, I don’t think there is any doubt,” Arians said. “He has so much pride and this team hasn’t won. And the quarterback gets a lot of the blame and the coach gets fired. And he takes responsibilities for those things.”
As we found out last month, Arians, after he learned Jameis took three teammates to Tallahassee (Justin Watson, Scotty Miller and Antony Auclair) in July to work out at Florida State. Arians told the local pen and mic club he called Jameis and ordered him to stand down until training camp.
Joe can’t remember a coach telling a player to shut it down unless he had some kind of arm issue. Perhaps Arians is trying to convince Jameis that there are 21 other starters who can help a team win and Jameis doesn’t have to try to do it himself, to be the hero?

I predict that since Jamies has been drafted he has had to play with the leafues worst defense that it has become part of his thought process to be the hero…and that the forst couple of games this year we will probably see him trying to shake that tjought process. I also think once he sees the defense playing press coverage, blitzing and getting the ball back.for him that will make him realise that he can relax and just play the game for the remainder of the season. Its going ro take a game or.two.for.him to realise how huge a difference Arians and staff are going to make. PRACTICE is one thing live games are another.

Bruce Arians is a helluva football coach … but the players Execute the game plan and coaches are the architect… if your QB is giving the ball away like donations to the Salvation Army your gonna get what we have gotten the last few years … more losses than wins … sorry coach but can’t change the spots on a leopard

JW’s style was good until 00′ maybe. Nobody is a ‘gun slinger’ anymore for a reason. I’m sure other QBs can take more risks, run around and throw 50-50 balls to look “geniuses” at times. This is not how qbs play nowadays. You want your 25 mil $ player to be accurate, sharp, cold blooded, lethal with quick release and flawless footwork. Anything else just doesn’t cut it.

Another point about JW- I remember everyone with a mic or a pen (or a keyboard) telling us that JW “is only 20 years old” and “only 22 years old” as it has some advantage to it but at an era where QBs play well into their 40’s who cares about QBs age and whether he played 18 or 20 years? If anything, as we learnt from JW’s case, it only means you payed an immature player a vet’s money.

Nice work Joe but the “clearing his name” aspect is all on JW. His transgressions have hurt him and the trust of his teammates tremendously. He will never overcome that until he is moved to a new team with a clean slate. Couple that with him being the 24th ranked QB in the league will result in him getting run out of town after this season. Side note: “circle-jerking” by a guy name Peter goes well together.

Hard work is great….Nobody can ever say Winston didn’t work hard. Countless other QBs in the league have put in the same effort. Blake Bortles….hard worker, Mark Sanchez…hard worker. The list goes on and on….Eventually those efforts have to lead to at a very minimum consistency and the most consistent part to Winston’s game is turnovers. That’s not a formula that works well in this league. I’ve never doubted the dudes effort or football IQ….he simply doesn’t make good decisions in the heat of the moment and his ball placement has always been avg at best. He’s a perplexing player….obviously has the talent and traits to be good but it doesn’t consistently present itself week after week…qtr after qtr.

Jameis has plenty to blame himself for, and he is just one person who contributed to Koetter’s failure, but Winston is 100% responsilble for his own serious issues. Koetter is overwhelmingly most to blame for Koetter, and Koetter’s gone. Rightfully so. Winston is a BS artist..that’s already well known. If he was as concerned about others as he tries to get people to believe, he’d not have the baggage he does. He’d actually respect those around him. So not having any of that BS.
Winston will be gone too if he follows the same path he’s on. Someone wrote something stupid yesterday to the effect of if Winston just does this year what he did last year stats wise, he’ll get a fat new contract. More delusion there. It’s not all stats…it’s results.
The Bucs aren’t done taking out the trash yet. Whether Winston is in the next round is TBD. Right now, he’s NOT coming back next year. The fact he’s in his 5th year without a contract and all the question marks should be concerning. That’s up to him. His apologists do him no favors as is. Hold the man to the standard. As for BA, he’s just doing what he has to do…blow sunshine up Winston’s fragile little ego.

“We have by far the best team that we’ve had since you’ve been here, you’re the only guy who can lose a game for us… and you play a different style of quarterback than Tom Brady, you’re more like Aaron Rodgers, and they’ve got some years on you but it’s time now where you’ve got to play like that. You’ve got to be that guy.”
– Dirk Koetter said to his 23 year old quarterback who plays in a division with 3 HOF/SB/MVP caliber qb’s and was about to field one of the worst defenses in NFL history.
His solution? Tell the kid he has to be Aaron Rodgers to win games.

If a short-passing game is easier and suites #3 better then, why this deep-passing offense?

If Jay Cutler had the dedication, desire and drive to be great that Jameis Winston has had since he was a teenager, he’d be a 1st ballot HOF’er!
Regardless, if Jameis puts up the EXACT SAME advanced stats in 2019 as he did in 2020, the ONLY thing he will need to do to get a contract extension is end the 2019 season HEALTHY, that’s it.
The only people that don’t understand this are those who think “stats are for losers” and that GMs draft and sign players based on the “team record” they had from the previous season, rather than how much talent they have,
If Jameis finishes 2019:
Top 5 in Raw QBR
Top 8 in Total QBR
#1 in the entire NFL under pressure
#1 in the entire NFL on 3rd downs (#1 in conversion percentage and #4 in passer rating)
and HEALTHY
He will get a contract extension … even if the team goes 0-16.
That would cause the Jameis-haters to lose their minds, but that’s just the way it is. No GM in their right mind is going to draft a midget nowhere near as talented as Jameis who just happens to have a great college W.L record because he plays on a college all-star team (i.e. Tua), or some other guy who is nowhere near as talented as Jameis (Herbert or Fromm) just because Jameis’ “t-e-a-m” crapped the bed and went 0-16 despite his excellent “individual” play.
“Team fans” care about team wins … that makes many of them clueless when it comes to evaluating “individual” talent and performance.
