Highlights Of Friday Night Practice

The Bucs practiced in the Glazer Shed again Friday night, the second of three straight nighttime indoor practices. Here are plays that stood out to Joe.
* The Bucs shut off the air conditioning in the Glazer Shed. It was stuffy and warm but mostly dry (except for your sweat). Bucco Bruce Arians said after practice it was based on sports science to replicate playing outside, even though it was under a roof.
*The Bucs’ pass rush continued to drive Bucs quarterbacks nuts. Ndamukong Suh would have had two sacks. His last “sack” — Bucs and refs blow the whistle before contact — Suh would have leveled Blaine Gabbert. Suh then ran back to his defensive huddle in a big wide turn and was pumping his left fist and skipping like a six-year old girl playing hopscotch. Shaq Barrett also would have clobbered Gabbert and Vita Vea continued to maul Bucs offensive linemen.
* America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, continued his less than stellar training camp. To his credit, he didn’t throw a pick until the Bucs began working on two-minute drills. Both his picks came inside the 35. Joe asked Arians about a status report on Jameis with a week to go before opening preseason in Pittsburgh. Joe will have that later this evening.
* Mike Edwards splashes Peyton Barber early on a dump off pass to the right flat.
* The Benn’ed Around lives! Bobo Wilson with about a four-yard gain.
* Vernon Hargreaves continues to ball out in training camp by breaking up a pass intended for Mike Evans.
* At one point in red zone work, Jameis threw for touchdowns on three straight plays. O.J. Howard caught two of them. Breshad Perriman caught a rope that Jameis threaded between defenders for the other touchdown.
* Howard shakes D’Cota Dixon and gets wide open for a short pass.
* Cam Brate with a big catch from Gabbert over the middle for about 30 yards.
* Fans are able to get really close to Bucs players on the sideline. Early in practice, a young fan slapped skin with rookie Devin White. A few minutes later, another little boy got the same love from Mike Evans. But this time security got bent and all but shoved the child away in steering him to get to his desired destination.

The ‘real’ fans root for their team rather than being bitter because they thought that Mike Smith was a real good coach!

Our D line is eating our O line.
Is this a testament on how good our D line is, or just how crappy the O line is?

Can’t wait to see this defense in action against the Steelers. BA & TB are building something special. Bucs are regaining our heritage.

At least it sounds like Jameis has learned how to score in the red zone. That is an accomplishment that would have bought us some more wins last year despite our inept Warhop OL.

I’ve gone to a few games where I’ve seen a fan run onto the field and get totally destroyed by a cop who blows them up with a big tackle. Always makes an awesome highlight – and TV does a huge misjustice to the cops by never showing these because of the BS belief that if you show it on TV it will make people do it more often. In any case, if it did happen more often, that would be awesome since each time it did happen was during a TV timeout and it was super entertaining. You also know those ex-football player cops absolutely love knocking the s out of the guy, and they’re often textbook blow-up tackles. We need to see more of that.

I love the fact that JW is struggling in training camp. Every other year he has been good in camp and good during the season. This year perhaps due to the defense testing him to the max, he will eventually click and actually get over the hump.

It looks to me like the defense got together and decided they were going to be the strength of this team. Just like Sapp, Brooks and company did years ago.
I’m now disappointed we don’t have Suh for more than a year. You can bet that his asking price is going to be high next year…and I suspect the Bucs won’t be able to pay it.
Gotta see it on the field in games, but it really looks like Suh is actually having fun on this team.

He threw three touchdowns in a row, so I suspect he is already over the hump. I think they have him taking a lot of risks on purpose.
Risks provide teaching moments, as do mistakes.
“That play didn’t work. Tell me why, Jameis.”
He’s not only going to learn how to recognize defenses, but also weaknesses.

The elite QBs in the league will go 3 to 4 practices without a pick. We praise Mr McGoo (JW) for only throwing one in a day of practice.

Have a strong feeling this #93 is going to be a major upgrade over what we had before–remember old #93 crying on the sidelines and helping up other teams quarterbacks.
