A Cappa Win, Vea Domination, Hobbling Donovan Smith, Balance Issues & A Suspect Throw (Video)

Yes, Joe was shooting video last night during training camp practice inside the Glazer Shed at One Buc Palace.
There a load to chew on in this clip.
And it’s one you’re going to want to watch several times.
You’ve got Vita Vea again eating Ryan Jensen for lunch with his power. Jensen gets off balance and appears to hold in order to hang on. However, Joe doesn’t see a flag thrown by the officials at practice and Alex Cappa sheds his man and finishes the play very nicely helping on Vea.
This is a three-man rush for the Bucs, with Ndamukong Suh off the right edge. He’s working on Donovan Smith but appears to be going half speed. Perhaps the reason is found when Smith visibly hobbles after the play. Remember, Bruce Arians said Smith has an Achilles issue.
America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, gets a clear lane to throw but he’s totally out of sync with his receiver. It happens. But it also can’t happen in the red zone like this.

Vea and suh are going to terrorize interior lineman. Corners are going to have to come up and tackle. Linebackers are going to have a field day.

Looks like the receiver is supposed to cut back to the outside, but there’s holding on the play. At the end of the clip watch Jameis raise his hand – like throw the flag already. No big deal either way. The key is how the O-line gets blown up.

I was reading a bunch of teams camp news this morning and noticed some similar themes. Everyone thinks their DL is going to be the best in the league. And Lots of Qbs are throwing interceptions. The Bills fans are pretty sure to Ed Oliver is a little better than Aaron Donald after 2 days in pads.

in addition to the right side of the oline, we have to worry about the center position as well….

Who could’ve called this sh!t on D.Smith? I could. Paid him $10 million more than what he’s worth because he never went down. Is there a sexy palm tree walking around practice? We’ll see.

Joe: should we be concerned about all this time in the AC Shed? The heat will be ridiculous for the first 3 September games and we need to acclimate. I get the fact that thunderstorms are usually associated with lightning but it appears as if they are being overly cautious.

until they earn it on Sundays against NFL competition there is nothing to get excited about. flashing in August against an oline that should be driving ups trucks and Budweiser trucks is nothing to brag about… not a single buc o lineman is nfl starter worthy including the very very average marpet.
bucs o line is laughable at best and will be the reason Jameis is winning championships for years to come with Belicheat in New England while the glazer led bucs continue to embarrass the sport of football while collecting the ever so coveted basement title.

Nah. They’ve practiced outside a few times and will do so again. Hargreaves told Joe the practices are tougher than the games so that’s a good sign. Remember, Koetter babied these guys in training camps and Koetter was 3-0 on opening day games.
A team suit told Joe the defense was totally gassed Tuesday so that is a good sign that they are busting tail.

Glad to see Cappa finding the need and filling it by helping out Jensen before Vea can get to the QB. This is exactly the type of awareness and teamwork we need up front. Nice job on that rep young bruiser….

How in the hell would vh3bust know that games are easier than practicing…. he’s always watching from the sideline hurt or at the 25 or 30 watching his guy score….. of course games are easier he’s beaten so often and quickly then hurt he cant work up a sweat on game days

I know they’re mixing them up, but where are you seeing Liedtke on the depth chart. Second team, third…Peanut dollars compared to Smith and he looked very good in preseason last year. It’s practice but try to keep an eye out for him for me please.

My prediction is Vita puts up a ProBowl caluber season this year. Whether he gets the votes or not depends on if this team is winning……..publicity counts in the ProBowl contest and losers don’t get no pub.

Joe thank you for this clip. It is a really good view and excellent quality so well done. I also love the fact that the clip automatically plays on a loop. I have saw other highlights elsewhere but never saw that feature. Topnotch!
I will watch the rest of it later…..can’t stop watching Vea vs Jensen(guessing the players). The Center literally gets airborne and thrown on that play. Really hard to watch and not get mesmerized by that feat of strength!!!

Vita averaged 3.5 sacks per year in college when he “dominated”… Anyone thinking he’s suddenly Warren Sapp doesn’t know what they’re talking about. He’s a 3-4 NT, and even if he’s “dominating” he’s not going to produce a lot of pressure, the domination will come in the run game.
Nothing against Vita, I think he’ll play very well this year, but he’s limited by the position and there’s nothing in his history that tells us he’s suddenly going to be a pass rush guy.
Anywho, keep the hype in check, otherwise the same people saying he’s the next Donald right now, will think if he ends the season as a great run stuffer, but with only 3.5 sacks, that he’s a bust – when that would literally be a great season for him.

They need to pull D. Smith til he is well and play Liedtke to show him how it is done! Hopefully, Cappa will be alright at RG! Nobody can stop Vea or Suh.

BA Fan … Liedtke has been with us for 2 years. Had ZERO offensive snaps in 2017, followed by THREE offensive snaps in 2018. Do you REALLY think that he’s gonna “show him (Donovan Smith) how it is done”? (Hint: I suspect that there’s a reason why Donovan has 2,174 offensive snaps to his credit in these last TWO years versus 3 offensive snaps for Liedtke. Just a guess though).
And as far as “Hopefully, Cappa will be alright at RG” goes, are you willing to bet the season on that? Because IF Cappa starts (I don’t think he will BTW) and he gets tossed around like a rag doll, Jameis (and our RBs) will be the one(s) paying the price, not Cappa.

My prediction still stands no more than 6 wins this year. Who the heck is Winston throwing to? He is awful in the red zone. I think Licht may even be offended by his play and he knows nothing about NFL talent eval.
Here is another prediction, D Smith wont play more than 8 games this year. If he is hobbling in early August, he will be done by November. NFL DEF will take note and put as much pressure on that injury as possible. Its the way it is.
On a positive note, how about that DEF starting to look like the DEF of old?? If we only had a real 1200 yard RB….just imagine…

Jensen is being exposed. He got hes payday and is on vacation. He likes to man handle LBs and Corners but gets tossed aside when there is a big guy bull rushing. Cappa had a better rep that paly. Cappa?

Btw, I’ve always thought Donovan Smith was mediocre on his bed days. And when he sucks, he really sucks. What a waste of money that was. I’m sure there is a rookie free agent that can do a better job.

Rod Munch…. Joe has a highlight from VitaV on top of this page grabbing Jensen….. Then he lifts Jensen then he literally throws the 300 pounder out of his way. After that he proceeds to strike a path directly towards an unprotected QB.. …Whether or not he records a statistic(sack) from that play is almost entirely irrevelant because he made a extreme impact on this play…….Plays like this result in Pick Sixes and FF or TFL or batted balls all the time………. It’s kinda like RBI……you don’t gotta hit a Homer to get one!!!
VitaV made a impact play…….That cannot possibly be detirmined by sack totals…….Otherwise Sapp is a reasonable debate ror HOF consideration and not a shoe in

JimmyJack – Yeah I saw the highlight play where he mauled Jensen, but he was also not moving a lot on that play. If that was in a game the QB would have just ran away or thrown the ball away. However, if it was a running play, then fantastic, he just totally stuffed the guy. That’s my point – and it’s really not a insult on Vita, it’s more about the expectations I’ve seen where people think he’s suddenly going to be a pass rush guy when we’ve seen no evidence of that. Also, no, a game against the 4th string 49ers QB behind a 2nd and 3rd string OL doesn’t make me think he’s going to put up double digit sacks.
With all that said, if he proves me wrong, then fantastic – I’d love it and you all can call me an idiot and I’ll gladly take the beating.
