“He’s One Of My Favorite Guys Right Now, Just Because Of His Personality”
July 30th, 2019Todd Bowles is no fan of choreographed touchdown celebrations in July, but he isn’t afraid to say who he really likes.
One guy on the top of his list is defensive end Carl Nassib, per Bowles’ comments today at One Buc Palace.
Bowles was asked about Nassib batting down a healthy share of balls in camp, and Bowles started glowing about the guy Bucs pray can at least duplicate what he did off the edge last season.
Bowles talked about how intelligent Nassib is, how hard he works and, it seems, Bowles just flat out really likes the guy. “He’s one of my favorite guys right now, just because of his personality.”
Joe enjoys the LB/DE Noah Spence hype and the excitement from newcomer LB/DE Shaq Barrett, who is all fired up because he thinks he’ll primarily be a pass rusher in this defense, but Joe knows the Bucs absolutely need a powerful year from Nassib.
Joe hates banking so much on a guy who likely had a career year last season, but that’s how it is. The Bucs just don’t have enough depth for Nassib to take a step backwards.
Hopefully, this early Nassib-Bowles connection will lead to inspired play.
Bowles on the defense with a choreographed celebration yesterday in practice after a pick-6. "I don't know if you celebrate two days into training camp and do a roller coaster ride."

It will not only lead to inspired play but to a huge contract going forward……Nassib is exactly the kind of player we need to keep.
I’m assuming he will at least repeat last year’s performance because he has a great motor….

Nassib gave a lecture on Hard Knocks last year on basic “economics,” compound interest.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:07 pm
Career year in 9 starts, thats my kind of player.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:11 pm
Nassib – JPP = ?
July 30th, 2019 at 12:14 pm
Not sure I understand the lack of confidence, even pessimism, towards Nassib. There were moments last year where he was greatly harassing the QB and taking away attention from JPP. He got better and better as the year went on and I wouldn’t find it the least bit surprising that he will be one of the better and more productive players on the defensive side of the ball.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:19 pm
Seriously, why is such a young and inexperienced (& intelligent) player already at his ceiling, Joe? Still gunshy about being a fan again, huh 😉
July 30th, 2019 at 12:21 pm
Always focusing on the negative . Nassib was a rookie last year. Why not think he can turn into a double sack guy? He stood out during last years camp which is why Licht signed him.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:22 pm
Five+ fewer sacks.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:23 pm
No he was not. He’s actually in a contract year.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:24 pm
Carl Nassib, another one of my “told you so Joe”. German Shepherd Dog.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:25 pm
Why, he’s so valuable a winless team (now run by one of the best GMs in the game) threw him off the boat despite him being on a rookie contract. Why, that just screams “Reggie White.”
July 30th, 2019 at 12:27 pm
Love the call out by Bowles on the celebration. That’s the real headline.
“Camp Accountability 2019”
You can use that Joe’s and thank me later!
July 30th, 2019 at 12:36 pm
I would sign him now if you can. Because next year he’s gonna cost a pretty penny. Not woreied about the Defense. Just are oline play. .
July 30th, 2019 at 12:37 pm
You can’t say he likely had a career year before his contract year rolled around. He did what he did in a trash defense and maybe a better coordinator gets him that big contract. this year will determine if key guys here the last couple years were a waste of time and money. And he’s 100% right i dont think you do endzone celebration two days into training camp.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:44 pm
@ Joe – Dorsey also threw out Ogbah who is going to be a starter on a greatly improved unit with the Chiefs. Both moves were seen as shocks and both players have played well since being “thrown off the boat”. That’s what happens when you have like 20 draft picks for two straight years – I’m just happy our GM made the most of another GMs mistake which is not something we get to say much as Bucs fans.
July 30th, 2019 at 12:48 pm
I don’t get the career year comment…why?
July 30th, 2019 at 12:56 pm
Not a great deal of pressure on Nas Joe. JPP we’ll cleared to play her shortly. You’re searching but you won’t find it dude.
July 30th, 2019 at 2:46 pm
Nassib with JPP snap totals projected to 10 sacks last year.
Young guy that in theory could actually get better. He isn’t some 8 year vet who had a fluke season imo
July 30th, 2019 at 4:00 pm
Carl had 6.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss with an earning of $773,000 but yet Joe wanted to keep GMC with his lowly 6 sacks and 6 tackles for loss with an earning of $12,750,000 ..smh Sometimes I just don’t get it? Joe makes decisions on emotions rather than what is good for the team. Maybe Nassib needs to buy Joe an ice cream cone.
July 30th, 2019 at 4:05 pm
You can’t have generational talents all over the field. You need the Carl Nassib’s of the NFL on your roster too.
Joe lives in some fantasy world were if you aren’t an All-Pro caliber player you are trash and only guys that make $10+ million a year can impact the game.
How did having JPP on the edge and GMC in the middle affect the win-loss last year? 5 wins.
Nobody takes a positive and crushes the life out of it like this Joe. They should really hire you to give pre-game speeches.
July 30th, 2019 at 7:20 pm
Oh boy. Joes lost it, at least one of em. Teams with stacked positions cut good players. If the D had a bunch of Nassibs theyd be a hell of alot better. Nobody confuses his effort with Suhs. No plays or days off. I was hoping the Bucs drafted him a few years ago. You keep dogging him out even after he was the third best defensive player last season. Not everyones Reggie white.
July 30th, 2019 at 8:02 pm
Nassib was quite a find for us.
July 30th, 2019 at 8:18 pm
Why does Nassib have to take a step back, why can’t he take a giant leap forward?
July 30th, 2019 at 9:55 pm
Carl Nassib walked the walk last year.
Some of you turkeys are just full of it.
July 31st, 2019 at 12:22 am
I am praying JPP gets back in playing shape for our November 10 game against Cardinals. We are 5-4 and get a playoff type push from Suh, Allen, Vea, with their hands in the dirt/ JPP and Nassib on outside, White and David in the Middle. I think we finish 10-6 and make the playoffs.
July 31st, 2019 at 12:25 am
I don’t think that Nassib is going to ever challenge Michael Strahan’s sack record, but that doesn’t mean he can’t flirt with 10-12 sacks this year. As far as him getting dumped by Cleveland, think of how many players that we have dumped that went on to productive careers. Maybe it’s our turn to catch a break…(I couldn’t suppress a chuckle there)
Also, just to play devil’s advocate, John Dorsey got dumped by the Chiefs and seems to be killing it in Cleveland. I’m always overly optimistic before the season starts but the misery has got to end at some point. 😃
July 31st, 2019 at 2:51 pm
Strongly disagree with the Nassib pessimism. Especially from a Mike Smith defense to a bowles’ defense. 🤦♂️
That browns d line was loaded.

Nassib’s the man. One of Licht biggest signings, if not the biggest since he’s been here. Sign him to an extension NOW.
